Thaddeus Stevens was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania, from 1859 to 1868. He was a strong opponent of slavery and discrimination.
The Table Creek Treaty of 1857 was the treaty between the Pawnee and the US that established the reservation and the mutual obligations between the Pawnee and the US. It included terms to "to improve the condition of the Pawnees, and teach them the arts of civilized life."
