Solid Continuation
lennonmaue1 March 2020
The Pilot of Pokémon I regard as one of the best cartoon pilots of all time, for its excitement, emotional value, and tenseness. The second episode of Pokémon was a nice introduction to the villains of the show, Jesse and James, and is able to show Ash's and Pikachus ever-growing bond. We were also given a brief introduction to Misty, Officer Jenny, and Nurse Joy. Overall, nice sweet simple episode that does a good job of setting up the world of Pokémon.

Team Rocket

Warning: Spoilers
This is a solid episode 2.

We get the introduction of Team Rocket & learn that they want to kidnap Ash's Pikachu because it's a super powerful one. We see a bunch of other Pikachus generating power for the Pokémon Center, I guess they're the bog standard non-special kind.

I'm only realising now how nonsensical the Team Rocket song is.

Koffing & Ekans are good as the villainous Pokemon.

It's a bit sad when Misty unleashes a pathetic flapping Goldeen onto the floor.

The second half has all of the action during the hospital battle.

I love Meowth. He's catty.

A fun second episode!
balletcoppelia26 January 2023
The second episode is directly sequential to the first episode, something that often isn't the case for this show normally, with Ash rushing Pikachu to the Pokemon Center to treat his wounds from the previous episode.

It's kinda funny seeing how different the show was back then as compared to now. Ash's mom and Professor Oak are pretty mean to him, both of them basically calling Ash a loser when they talk on the phone. Cut him some slack, it's his first day still! And as a different reviewer pointed out Team Rocket are much more serious in this episode but unlike them I don't mind the change, they try to make them serious again in Black and White and from what I remember it really wasn't very good, I think they work better in a more comedic role. Not that they're bad in this episode being so serious, but I love the direction they went with them after this.

Another notable thing in this episode is the start of enormous Pokemon Centers, they really got creative with the designs of these buildings in the anime, I love them!

the best episode in the series
XxTopCatxX31 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is the best episode in the first season, and probably the entire series (at least what I regard as true Pokemon--anything after Pokemon Gold and Silver don't count to me) In this episode, Team Rocket (Jessie, James, and Meowth) is dark, evil, cruel, and sinister, the way Team Rocket SHOULD BE. It seems the longer the series went on, the more goofy, lovable, and silly Team Rocket became. Um, hello, Team Rocket is an evil organization, why are they complete morons? We should love to hate Team Rocket. I find myself disrespecting them and hating them because they're idiotic. This is the episode where Jesse, James, and Meowth truly shine as the evil trio they should've always been.

Also, the power of Pikachu in this episode is awesome, albeit a bit laughable when he sends out his insanely super charged thundershock. I loved how he was hurt and in intensive care in the hospital, and how Team Rocket was using this to their advantage to catch him. Wicked Brilliance.

Mind you, I haven't seen this episode in at least 5 years, but I still recall it as my favorite episode all this time later, and it is very memorable to me.
