- Margaret calls Col. Potter, giggling, from the "Zen Bar and Grill" in Tokyo. General Trevanian "Throwrug" Tumwater (worst toupee in the Asiain theatre of operations) is hosting a mysterious celebration. Margaret tells Col. Potter she has big news for everyone and all of the medical follow-ups she was assigned to perform are complete. She was assigned to check on the progress of the patients treated at the 4077th and has many recommendations to make. BJ, Hawkeye and Frank can only guess what Houlihan's great news is.
Upon her return to 4077, her big surprise is very personal: she is engaged to be married to a Lt. Colonel Donald Penobscot. The ring is a bit small, but Houlihan is super excited none-the-less. Donald is a west pointer and they are hopelessly in love. Potter is worried that Houlihan might be rushing into this marriage. She couldn't have known Donald for more than a few days at most. Frank was expecting that she would bring news of his promotion, instead she reports that one of the patients treated by Burns in 4077 nearly died later as Frank didn't follow the proper procedure. He removed a part of the patient's colon without Exteriorizing and the wound later developed an infection that nearly cost the patient his life. Frank defends himself saying that Exteriorizing takes time and he is a busy man. Potter warns Frank that if this happens again, it goes on his record. Later Houlihan drops the bomb on Frank by saying that she is getting married. Frank takes the news very well and congratulates her, but breaks the doors to the mess tent on his way out.
Franks starts being nice to the people. He even compliments Radar for getting penicillin from the black market at regular price. He even offers Radar a job after the war. Radar is shell shocked. Houlihan rubs Frank's face in her fiance's attributes (large shoulders, dancers legs, cute behind, medals all over his chest, all man) with no mercy until even Hawkeye and BJ feel compassion for him. Frank stabs Houlihan's finger in surgery and makes it look like an accident. Hakweye says Houlihan has the sensitivity of a Sherman tank. She says even Hawkeye has kicked him many times, but he says never when he was down. Frank comes by later that night and wants to have sex with Houlihan, but she fights him off and sends him away.
After a wee rampage (where Frank kidnaps a Korean family and brings them in for interrogation), Frank gets to talk to someone important (Frank's mom, who consoles him and tells him that he can always make new friends), thanks to the foresight of Radar. As Frank tries being human for once in his life, the guys are wary, but they are his wing-men.
Finally, one of Frank's cracks to Margaret may have started a new war. Frank starts to date a very young nurse and tells Margaret that a "little youth might be good for a change".. Or, in BJ's words: "I think the convoy just took a direct hit." It is a rare moment at the 4077 where the 3 doctors share a laugh and are all on the same side, however briefly.
