Up on the roof
LaverneandShirleysucks25 October 2021
I like this episode. The roof set was very impressive and with the wind blowing hard, it really had the feel that Lucy & Ethel were 5 floors up. When Lucy dangerously crossed the wooden plank to the next building, instead of waiting for Ethel to cross too, she could've just gone downstairs herself and back up her own building to open the roof door for Ethel. Other than that small blunder, it's a fun episode and Lucy & Ethel both looked great all dolled up for the '21' club....or '84' as Ethel said since they supposedly went 4 times lol.

In a rut

Warning: Spoilers
After deciding they are all in a rut from marriage ( Lucy and Ethel can predict everything Ricky and Fred do and say in the morning) . Lucy recommends the married couples spend a week apart and Lucy stays with Ethel and Fred stays with Ricky.

After a few days both sides are ready to end it but neither wants to give in first.

Lucy and Ethel pretending to go out Ricky and Fred check on them and Lucy and Ethel check on the guys. To avoid the guys seeing them Lucy and Ethel end up on the roof in their nightgowns . This is also where the best comedy of the episode comes from . The guys stay in the stairwell and it's cold and windy on the roof by the time Lucy and Ethel try to get back in they realize the door is locked from the inside and they guys left!

Lucy suggest one of them could jump off the roof and when a crowd gathers could tell them Lucy was up there ! Ethel " I hope you don't think I'm a bum sport but let's think up another way " They try to get the attention of a neighbor across the street that Ethel knows by yelling and throwing a rock but it breaks the wrong window!

Lucy puts a board between the buildings but that doesn't work either .

They huddle near the door and fall asleep. Ricky and Fred find them and turn the hose on them from a top! They wake up Ethel " I wonder what time it is ? " Lucy " I wonder what year it is?" They feel the water from the hose and think it's raining.

Lucy " look it's not raining over there!" They see it's Ricky and Fred ! The neighbor did see something and called. They admit it was a lousy idea and want to.be in a rut . Basically proving the vacation from marriage did work.

Marriage rut. Already I know where this is going. Taking a vacation from each other is actually not a bad idea. The testament to how much the couple's mean to each other. I like where Lucy and Ethel are trapped on the roof.

A single life for the Mertzes and Ricardo's.

Warning: Spoilers
While this is a cute idea, it's not really a very funny episode, moderately amusing here and there but ultimately pointless. Complaining about their predictable marital routines, Lucy and Ethel decide to try to spice up their marriages by taking time away from each other and realize after a few days that it isn't working. But they're too proud to admit that they were wrong as are Fred and Ricky for agreeing to it, and ultimately, it ends up with Lucy and Ethel locked up on the roof, freezing in their pajamas.

While the four stars go through their paces professionally, no one really has any hugely funny moment that makes it a classic. There's also the fact that Lucy leaves the apartment without taking any clothes, as well as Fred getting anything from his apartment. Ultimately, that makes this a predictable episode that has an amusing conclusion but overall is a disappointment.
