A Close Look at Skinner
Hitchcoc11 April 2022
Basically this is a matchmaker story as Homer has been pushed to find a man for Selma. She is one of Marge's twin sisters. Neither of them is very appealing. When the good principal is invited to dinner, he goes for the wrong twin, which causes numerous complications. Bart uses Skinner's lovestruck self to take over the school.

Romance is in the Air!
g-bodyl20 April 2014
The fourteenth episode in the second season of the Simpsons is not as great as previous episodes due to some weak spots, but it's still a good episode. I'm not the one for romance, so maybe that's why I didn't like this episode as much. But there are some hilarious moments including the altercations between Bart and Skinner. A bonus is we get to meet the ever-charming Groundskeeper Willie for the first time.

In this episode, "Principal Charming," a depressed Selma asks Marge to help her find a husband so she enlists Homer for the job. Homer gets Principal Skinner to ask Selma out, but he ends up asking Patty out. Now here will come the merry-go-round.

Overall, this is a good episode, but not the greatest. The romance didn't sit well with me, but that doesn't stop this from being a well-crafted episode. Still pretty funny too with such cultural references from Gone with the Wind. I rate this episode 8/10.

Skinner like you've never seen him before

Warning: Spoilers
I liked that we got to see a different side to Seymour Skinner. A more romantic side and a less mommy boy one. It saddened me to see that Selma was the one that was looking for love but it was Patty that ended up with him.

The bond between twins is one I will never understand myself, but to let Skinner go just for that is something I don't understand either.

Bart is being Bart as per usual and continues his streak of pranks throughout the episode. I did miss Maggie in this episode as well as Lisa who we barely saw in this episode.

I noticed as well that this episode aired on Feb 14,1991 which was a perfect date for this episode.

Principal Charming! Skinner falls head over heels for one of Marge's sisters. This great episode also marks the first appearance of Groundskeeper Willie! Lots of fun!

A masterpiece

I just started to re-watch Simpsons from the beginning. This episode is so incredibly great. It just works. We learn so much about Patty, Selma and Skinner, who is one of my favourite side characters with a lot of depth. I also like the Skinner - Bart dynamics, and the last scene is reall good and funny too.

Great

Romance does sit well with me, and this episode portrays love in all its highs and lows, with some very poignant moments. Nice to see this other side to some of the less focused on characters. Enjoy!

Individual character examination
z-2956121 July 2023
This episode gives a rare closer look into one of the secondary characters of the show (Principal Skinner) by showing us his hidden traits outside of school. If kids and teens are watching this show, this episode is very valuable in teaching them how to respect their teachers for who they are because they have their job life and then their personal life which are two entirely different things.

Marge's sisters (Patty and Selma) can be appalling and despicable at several moments but we also get to see a unique side of them in this episode. It caused me to develop a love-to-hate relationship with them for the first time ever.

To me, this is not necessarily an underrated episodes because it isn't one of my favorites but it's definitely an underrated character study regarding The Simpsons as a whole but also individual character studies throughout all television shows.

A unique take on the spinster
CubsandCulture23 August 2021
I'm not sure if the show eventually changes this but I found this episode positioning of Selma and especially Patty lack of lover life to be touching. The two sisters end up finding fulfillment within their twin, sibling bond. There isn't a lot of grief thrown at them for remaining single. It is also a really funny episode.

Characters getting more character
jayjaxan19 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After Selma (one of Marge's sisters) realizes she doesn't want to die alone Homer trues to get a man for her (Marge made him) and chooses Principal Skinner and then Principal Skinner accidentally falls in love with Patty.

Yes it's on of those plots and i don't mind it because it gives a bit more character to Patty & Selma and it shows that they're not just pricks to Homer.

Although it's not funny it does make up for building more character with those 2

( i didn't meet the character requirement so: much is that what he did for the first one lol I'm not gonna be able to make that work better than you)

Tomorrow is another school day

Homer plays matchmaker to one of Marge's sisters.

This is an excellent story of the bond between twins with great humour.

The writer of this episode must either be a twin or has known twins with that unbreakable bond. In my lifetime I have known three separate sets of twins like Patty and Selma who never married but spent the majority of their lives together. This episode captures it beautifully.

Other great moments come from the scenes involving Homer and Bart. I particularly like the Robocop homage used during Homer's hunt for Selma's man. There are lots of great movie tributes in this one.

It nicely introduces characters like Groundskeeper Willy and Hans Moleman as well.

Selma, Patty and Skinner Too
safenoe25 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
For me, it's the first ten seasons of The Simpsons that represents the golden era, and this episode falls into that, and here we get a sympathetic look at Principal Chalmers (referred to as "Seymooooorrrr!!" by his mother) as Homer works hard to set up a blind date with Selma, one of the sisters of Marge. All credit to Julie Kavner for her amazing voice work for Marge, Selma and Patty. And it's Patty that Principal Chalmers falls for, and it gets quite to be a triangle, kind of along the lines of the English movie from the 1980s, Rita, Sue and Bob Too. Anyway, do yourself a favor and watch this episode.

Principal Charming

This is a nice episode to flesh out the characters of Patty and Selma a little more.

It has some nice moments, but probably isn't the best episode of a very strong S2 overall.
