"Circle of Hate" was the final episode, completing a full 39 episode season that remained popular for years afterward, a total of four features culled from the series: "Along the Mohawk Trail," "The Redmen and the Renegades," "The Pathfinder and the Mohican," and "The Long Rifle and the Tomahawk." Back from the episode "False Witness" is William Walsh (last of nine) as Col. Courtney, commander at Fort McKenzie, though here seemingly having never met Hawkeye before (chalk it up to lazy scripting, considering they got the fort and the colonel's name right!). A recent spate of killings of Iroquois braves forces Col. Courtney to enlist Hawkeye to send a message to Chief Thunder Cloud (Len Ontkean, last of seven) that he intends to capture the two killers. The village smithy (Don Garrard, last of four) informs Hawkeye about the recently arrived Lt. Smith (Michael Julian, last of three) and his two tight lipped brothers, loners with a hatred for all Iroquois due to their parents being killed by them years before. The climax is a good one, though we never get a second look at the killers from the opening scene. Lon Chaney would play another Native American on just one more occasion, the 1966-67 TV series PISTOLS 'N' PETTICOATS, spoofing Chingachgook as Chief Eagle Shadow.
