"The Prisoner" finds the Oneidas playing games with Lieutenant Briggs (Brian Smyth, third of four), whose foolish pursuit results in the capture of Farber (Shane Rimmer) and all his other soldiers. Col. Dillon (William Walsh, seventh of nine) has little choice but to court martial the inexperienced Briggs, asking Hawkeye and Chingachgook to accompany him to a date with the gallows. Learning that the soldiers are alive and held captive to be sold as slaves to the Ottawas, Hawkeye and Chingachgook pose as the white slaver and his Ottawa companion to borrow time to allow Lt. Briggs to lead help from Col. Dillon. Sadly, the unforgiving Colonel puts Briggs back in prison, while Hawkeye's cover is blown by Karok (Juan Root, fourth of eight), the fort in danger from Oneida attack. Shane Rimmer enjoyed a lengthy career after this very early appearance.
