Two of the episodes that rate over an 8.0 score have been pretty boring, this one the most boring, as it's really a way of showcasing a beautiful Asian actress, Tina Chen, to be a kind of surrogate love interest for Burt Reynolds' title character, far too mellow to smile or for that, to have any kind of romance at all: he seems the kind of TV cop who plugs himself into his nightstand and sleeps only to wake up for work again...
The particular investigation goes nowhere, trying to find out who killed a Vietnam War soldier deemed a hero (which is rare); guest stars include future CHiPS boss Robert Pine as an overly patriotic friend of the slain and Meg Foster as his wife that he was going to possibly replace with Chen, thus igniting the motives, which are never strong enough here to make an intriguing case.
