Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in 'The Curse of the Flying Hellfish'
The Simpsons
After Grampa's fight with Mr Burns, his clothing is torn. But when the FBI arrive to take back the stolen artwork, they're undamaged.
Having been established as Springfield's oldest resident, it's unlikely that Burns would be the junior officer in the Hellfish unit.
The State Department officials say that the paintings' rightful owner is a German baron. One of the paintings was Raphael's "Portrait of a Young Man," which was stolen from Poland in 1939, not anywhere in Europe west of Berlin in 1944.
In the World War II flashback, Sergeant Abraham Simpson threatens to report Monty Burns's theft of Nazi artwork to Commander Flanders. In actuality, commander is not a rank in the Army. It is a rank in the Navy and the Coast Guard, equivalent to a lieutenant colonel in the Army.
Abe Simpson mentions that Barney Gumble's father, Arnie, was a member of his platoon in the army and that Arnie's rank was "Private Fifth Class". Private Fifth Class is not (nor has ever been) a rank in the United States Army. However, the rank "Private First Class" does exist.
After Abe dons the scuba equipment and rescues Bart underwater, he and Bart swim to the surface quickly as they only have one scuba regulator to breath from. In actuality, a diver's ascent to the surface must be done slowly to give the residual nitrogen time to exit the body safely. A quick ascent results in decompression sickness, better known as "the bends", which can be lethal to the diver. Also, all modern scuba gear is equipped with two regulators for emergencies.
The name of Grandpa's World War II squadron varies between the "Flying Hellfish" and the "Fighting Hellfish. This may be because he is senile and his stories are often muddled up.
Sheldon Skinner bears a striking resemblance to Seymour Skinner. However, it's revealed in The Principal and the Pauper (1997)(#9.2) that Seymour Skinner is actually someone named Armin Tanzarian, so he is actually not related to Sheldon.
Which one of the Flying Hellfish buried the crate in the sea? And why is it a mystery to Grampa where it is buried?
