- In a French village where American troops are quartered during the war, Vera, a Red Cross girl, is serving coffee and doughnuts to the dough-boys. She is paying special attention to Private Jimmie. Two companions resent this and drag him away from the canteen just as the commander of the company blows the whistle for attention. He asks for a volunteer to go on a very dangerous mission but nobody steps out. The two private, thinking if Jimmie is out of the way they can make some headway with Vera, stick him with a pin and he jumps out of line. The officer congratulates him for his bravery and escorts him to an ambulance nearby. Then he tells him that his mission will be to see Vera safely to her father, a General in the next town. Jimmie is delighted, but when his buddies hear this they try to prevent him from going. They run after the ambulance and climb in the back while Jimmie and Vera, in front, unsuspectingly drive on. Then things begin to happen. Jimmie finally tricks them and leaves them sitting in the road while he and Vera continue on their way. The car starts to "cough" as they go along and they're forced to abandon it. Seeing a trench, they make for it, only to discover that it is a German dugout, and they tumble into the Captain's quarters. After overcoming the Captain and his aide they change clothing with them and start out again. The German soldiers, thinking Jimmie and the girl in officer's clothes think their captain is charging and follow. Jimmie and Vera, thinking the enemy is pursuing, run for their lives, making her father's headquarters just in time. The Germans are captured and Jimmie is awarded a medal.—Press Sheet from Library of Congress
