One of the most infamous moments in the history of "Saturday Night's Main Event" occurred when Jake Roberts gave Ricky Steamboat a DDT onto the arena floor. Roberts was very much against doing the spot, out of fear he could fatally injure Steamboat. WWE Management continued to insist, and it was only after Steamboat assured Roberts he could block the move that Roberts agreed. Unfortunately, Steamboat made full contact with the ground, got knocked out, and suffered a concussion. This spot set off a series of matches between the two, which were big successes. Despite the injury, both men spoke fondly of the feud (and of each other) on their respective DVD biographies.
In episode 4.4, Randy Savage becomes jealous over Hulk Hogan's friendship with Savage's girlfriend, Miss Elizabeth (Elizabeth Hulette). This was based on real-life as Savage really did feel that Hogan was getting too close to Elizabeth. According to Hogan, Savage's accusations continued during the commercial breaks and the situation ruined their real-life friendship.
The series aired occasionally on Friday nights under the title "The Main Event".
In their famous WrestleMania III rematch, Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship, only to surrender it a few moments later to Ted DiBiase. Thus, Andre's title reign is the shortest in the history of the WWE Championship.
The Andre/Hogan WrestleMania III rematch was (and remains) the highest-rated wrestling segment in the history of network television. The match was also voted "Match of the Year" by the readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
