Ridiculously hilarious!! A very underrated episode.

The only reason this episode doesn't receive a higher rating is that it is a bit preposterous to assume that a simple argument would lead to each inquiring about DATES for a couple's anniversary. Nevertheless, the quality of work in the physical makeup and superb comical acting by both Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance makes this one of the funniest of the earlier episodes of the series!

I laugh the most with Lucy and Ethel dress undesirable as Ricky and Fred's blind dates. There's a part Ricky sings a lyric Lucy repeats with her funny voice, which cracks me up every time, I even imitate her. And Ethel's one eye open how is does that not make someone laugh? She's stands there one eye open and Ricky's reaction ... oh man.

At the end, the boys got their pay back by tricking their wives to dress up to go out, and it's the wrestling match the girls refused to go in the first place. Now, I'm sure some would argue the girls should've won going dancing, but then it won't be funny watching Lucy and Ethel wearing glamorous dresses at a wrestling match.

The first of Lucy and Ethel's many antics.

Warning: Spoilers
It's the battle of the sexes in the premiere episode of the long running sitcom that may have not been the first, but was certainly first as far as legendary shorts go. It's Fred and Ethel's anniversary, and a grumbling Fred wants to go to the Monday night fights while the girls want to go to the Copacabana. A fight between the two couples ensues and Lucy and Ethel decide to find their own dates to escort them to the nightclub dial Ricky and Fred go to the fights by themselves. They decide to keep an eye on the girls by finding their own Gates and going to the Copa, but Lucy and Ethel find out about it and disguise themselves in hysterical ways to prevent this from happening.

The show gets achoo hysterical start with Lucy and Ethel going over the top in their hideous disguises and paying for it dearly when Ricky and Fred realized immediately what's going on. They got good Revenge, but at least Lucy and Ethel get the satisfaction of getting some laughs.

While this doesn't really seem like a show opener, that doesn't matter historically because we've come to know and love these characters so it's just another day in a life of the Ricardos and mertzes, and everybody gets a chance to shine. Frawley is particularly funny as he grumbles about the years he spent with his wife, insinuating that he feels trapped. Irregardless of what Frawley and Vivian Vance felt about each other off the set, it obviously doesn't show, and their interactions are hysterical. Of course, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz have great chemistry that shines through the love that was obviously still strong.
