Whats cheesier? adils face or the show altogether
tyranid_slayer7 May 2007
My sister usually watches shows on either Disney channel or nickelodeon. The shows on Disney are horrendous and the shows on nick are more intelligent. Until this came along.

Genie in the house. It is an atrocity. I can't make out whether the show is British or very bad American. The show focuses on some very badly acted genie named adil his face is so orange he might as well have been made in a wotsit crisp factory. Basically it just follows that plot and the wishes the girls make. Which are quite bad actually. If anyone had a genie they would wish to make the world bow to their feet or have mind control or something. But the girls are the only good thing about this show their acting is slightly passable. And the brunette is quite attractive.

So all in all don't watch it unless you like either of the girls.

decent show
katherines2678 April 2011
The show is OK, You can tell that it is a rather low budget show considering its quite obvious that the laughing is a sound track, It sounds the same every time! The problem is, is that the plot has been done so many times before...

So many times people have found a lamp and there's a genie inside, they wish and the wish "doesn't go to plan" Its a decent show, But eventually you are likely to get bored of the same similar plot lines...

I would say that this show is good for 7-11 year olds because of the simple plot lines.

I think that the lack of budget is the reason behind its poor ratings.

Unwatchable

Warning: Spoilers
I was bored one rainy Saturday, my friends were out, I had nothing to do, so I switched on Nickelodeon hoping something like Fairly Odd Parents or Spongebob was on. Instead, I had this crap thrown out at me.

The acting is poor, the script unfunny, and it was all very predictable. It is all British actors, but you don't get that sort of house in Britain! I have never seen a house like that in Britain, and it looks like it was Americans making this crap.

It has all been done before, and I can't believe that people actually like this. Kids will like this, but they will regret watching it in later life.

My advice: Make sure you stay well away from this shi t

Awful

Can Nickeloden please cease bothering trying to make British programmes for the channel. Renford Rejects, Laugh Out Loud and now this, all of them are absolutely horrendous.

The acting in this programme is extremely poor, the story lines are poor, and for British actors (looked it up) what the hell are the accents really about? Do we really sound like that, heaven forbid.

Absolute rubbish. Up against the American programming, it is absolutely embarrassing. Please, Nicelodeon, please stop making a fool out of this nation with such abysmal programming.

I don't even get the setting. Is it based in England? Where did the genie come from?

Yikes! This show is BAD!
jimbeer8 July 2008
Holy mackerel! I thought this show was just some more cheap American Sitcom trash directed at lazy kids with nothing better to watch. My wife and I grimaced while we tried to determine whether the accents were fake or not. I literally had to go online to find out where the show was made. Boy were we shocked to find out it was British. There is nothing funny about this show at all! I mean the Genie in the house theme has been done so many times already, why bother? Yikes! Just awful!!! I commented on how our children were just staring at the TV. not laughing at all. I mean there is nothing funny with it whatsoever. What is the story with the father? he acts like such an airhead but he is filling out all this important paper work in the kitchen? Furthermore, I cannot figure out the family dynamics here. I suppose I would know if I saw the original pilot. To tell the truth though, I am glad that I didn't. Why waste our time with this kind of garbage?

Bloody Hell

OK so I am 46 and shouldn't really be watching this but my kids turned it on and 'oh my gawd' was this show embarrassing. I have put up with crap like Saved By The Bell and Sabrina but this is the worst piece of television I have ever seen. My daughters school play (10 year olds) had better production and acting than this. As for the plot ... it must have come off the back of a Corn Flakes packet. Get this crap off now so that I don't feel like cancelling my Sky subscription in protest. What on earth were the production team and directors thinking about ? Are they honestly happy with this or is it just 'take the money and run' attitude. If it was me, I would run for my life !!

Quite strange.
darkest-hour20045 July 2006
OK, so the acting is awful and you can't really deny that. I'm not sure whether the actors are British and bad, or American trying to be British, but either way, their accents cannot be real. No Brits talk like that. The story lines are predictable and some of the scenarios the characters find themselves in are ridiculous. The show is obviously low-budget, as is made clear by the average special effects. The genie, Adil, has the most stupid voice and makeup on, it's almost laughable. I feel embarrassed for him. But ultimately, I think the show is designed to be silly watching. Like the other Nickelodeon UK show, Renford Rejects, which was really quite awful.

On the positive sides, I can imagine the show being a bit of fun-watching for younger children, such as below 11. Also, the two sisters and very attractive and well worth a look. Give the show a few tries, and once you adopt to its unique style, you may find it interesting.

It's charming!
kadejojevi29 August 2006
I think this is a charming show. I work in a junior school and many of the children are talking about it so I watched it! It is innocent fun, the girls are pretty, the genie is very appealing and Dad and Uncle Max are always good natured, even when trying to be cross!! The story-lines seem to cover a lot of childhood wishes, to be a dancer or a singer, to play tricks on their teachers, have pets that talk, to be fashion icons or simply to believe in magic. Children need this kind of 'fantasy' fun and I can quite see why so many of them are becoming fans. Obviously it is NOT aimed at adults or critics or whatever, but for goodness sake if you don't like it - watch the news! Let the kids BE kids and enjoy a bit of innocent make-believe fun.

Excellent
steve-290022 June 2006
The programme itself is a little odd but will be greatly enjoyed by under 12s.

Considering the basis it has been put together special effects are not bad and the scripts are done simply enough to carry this off, particularly considering the audience it is designed for.

The episode with "Rascal" was quite funny and is a good example of the entire series.

Aside from this Katie Sheridan (Sophie Norton) is absolutely lovely and sparkles on screen.

I imagine she will have many dads glued to the TV and I hope to see a lot more of her on other programmes (TV Companies take note).

I think this show is cool!

Warning: Spoilers
I know it may not be the best show in the world but I actually quite like it. In time it'll improve, everyone just needs to give it a second chance instead of blowing it away after seeing one episode. I like all of the characters and the plot of the episodes. I especially liked the episode where Adil (the genie) turned Philip (the dad) into a hippie causing all sorts of problems throughout the episode. The talent show episode was really good as well.

I hope to see more of Genie in the house on Nickelodeon. Everyday at 5pm.

Go on what more could you wish for?

Harmless fun, perfect for the kids ...
githfan21 August 2006
I think this show is perfect for the kids it's aimed at. My 2 love it. OK the story lines are a little contrived and the acting is rather huge but they think it's hilarious.

If you have kids under 12 and want them to watch something that will keep them entertained this is the show. It's not going to teach them anything but then what on Nickelodeon does these days!

The 2 girls, Sophie and Emma, are pretty and well mannered and there is usually a moral to the story in the end of each episode. The father, Philip, plays a bit of a "dorky dad" and the genie is always getting the girls into trouble, but is amusing and acts very well.

On the whole a nice piece of entertaining TV for the kids - gets my thumbs up!

It's not (of course) a brilliant show, but good enough to enjoy. (Especially for kids)
jorel-5438310 June 2017
It's a sitcom that used to be broadcast in my country Vietnam and i remembered watching it when i was 10 and now it's still my favorite show. It's a kids show anyway so why bother? It's fun and exciting and enjoyable. Nothing bad with it really! May seem silly but very funny. I'm re watching it and still feel the same way as years ago. Absolute joy !
