Rat Rot!

This is a weird one. First episode we had oil drilling, second one we had acid rain, third one we had mining for gems, and now we get .... a noxious brew that turns people into rats? Ummm does anybody notice the difference here?

This is basically the show saying, please don't take us seriously. Well, nobody ever did.

All of a sudden the show turns into some kind of science fiction schlock, rather than environmental terror. I have to say I'm here for it. Seeing three of the Planeteers transform into hideous snivelling rat creatures is very satisfying. There's also a Skumm-o-coptor for crying out loud. I just wish they actually took the opportunity to show us Full on Captain Rat!

There's also a moment where jungle animals are able to warn Ma-Ti about the imminent danger to the water supply via a bucket of slime. How on earth would the animals have any understanding of what was going on? Did he mind control them and start seeing through their eyes? Disturbing.

Hi Shaman. We actually get a look at somebody from Ma-Ti's native village. I'd been wondering when the show would explore the elephant in the room of these children being suddenly abducted from their homes by the Earth Mother. Turns out people are pretty cool with it, as the shaman makes no attempt to stop them from running off into danger. I hope we get to meet the other Planeteers' friends and families some day.

The fact that there's a magical cure for Rat Rot near Ma-Ti's home village is completely absurd. But the disease was absurd in the first place, so it works.

The episode ends with Skumm being captured - that's weird, I wonder if he escapes. I don't remember the bad guys ever getting caught in this show.

I loved this episode because it's complete nonsense.
