This was an extra included on the DVD of the film SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH and is an absolute necessity for understanding and appreciating the film. In this short documentary, you learn about the process of making the film, but much more importantly, you learn about changes that occurred in bringing this play to the screen. In the movie, Shirley Knight has an abortion after she is left pregnant by Paul Newman AND in the end, Newman s face is mildly disfigured by Knight's brother. In the play, Ms. Knight's character contracted an STD from the very promiscuous Newman and required a hysterectomy AND in the end Newman is castrated as a punishment for the STD! This puts a much more brutal slant on things but also creates a much stronger impact! All in all, this is an important accompaniment to the film.
