Created a Lot of Pre-teen Anglophiles
aimless-4615 July 2006
"The Adventures of Clint and Mac" was a 15 episode serial shown on "The Mickey Mouse Club" during its third and final season (1957-58). That was the year that the "The Club's" time slot was cut from a hour to a half hour, making the serials almost half of the show. Other new serials that season were the third "Spin and Marty" adventure (29 episodes) and "Annette" (20 episodes).

Clint (Neil Wolfe) is the son of a USAF officer stationed in London and becomes friends with Mac (Jonathan Bailey), the son of a Scotland Yard inspector. With the help of Pamela (Sandra Michaels), a teenage English girl, they attempt to solve the theft of the original "Treasure Island" manuscript from the British Museum. As the thieves work to smuggle the manuscript out of Britain, the teens trail them to the Thames River for a climatic chase.

This was one of the weaker MMC serials but it did give baby boomers their first taste of London. There were a lot of location shots and it paved the way for "Fair Exchange" a few years later. It probably created a lot of pre-teen Anglophiles who would offer little resistance to the British Invasion of the mid-1960's.

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
