- DS Ben Jones: I don't go there for three years, then twice in one week. I might get fond of the place. Apply for a transfer.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Oh, don't say that, Jones. Got enough on me plate without losing you.
- DS Ben Jones: That could almost have been a compliment.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Almost.
- [talking about Tom Barnaby]
- Simon Dixon: I'd just like to put a smile on his face. Does he ever smile?
- Cully Barnaby: Not for *many* boyfriends, no. Father of only daughter in one corner. Serious contender in the other. Could get nasty.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Right, Jones. Hands out of your pockets, comb your hair, straighten your tie! We have been summoned!
- [last lines]
- Joyce Barnaby: Supper in ten minutes.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: No, make that half an hour; Simon and I are going to the Crown for a pint. Come on, young sir.
- Cully Barnaby: [to Joyce] Now, that is what I call a result.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: This patio may prove more expensive than I thought. Thank you.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Mrs. Hutton, how's the rat population in your neck of the woods then?
- Dorothy Hutton: Dwindling.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Can you tell me about the depth of your feelings for Delyth Mostyn?
- Clifford Rawnsley: Yes. I admire Delyth - I don't deny it. I desired her in a... a healthy sort of way.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Even though her husband flattened you.
- Clifford Rawnsley: That was a lucky punch. Now I just feel sorry for her. She's taken up with that ponce of a doctor. He's had more women than Casanova over there.
- [points to a large boar]
- Clifford Rawnsley: I asked Delyth to marry me, you know. She could have had standing in the porcine community. She could have had all this!
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Well I can't imagine why she'd turn you down.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: When did you last see them?
- Huw Mostyn: Megan, six months ago. She drove up here with her new boyfriend to see if I was getting my strength back.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Why, had you been ill?
- Huw Mostyn: Yeah, I had a stroke a year ago. I'm not a crippler, but the left hand side of me still plays up. So I gave up murdering people.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: I'd like to know where you were the night Dr. Delaney was killed.
- Megan Mostyn: Here, with Jason, watching telly.
- DS Ben Jones: What were you both doing night before last, around eight o'clock?
- Jason Slater: Here, watching telly.
- DS Ben Jones: You should get out more!
- Delyth Mostyn: Chief Inspector, your investigation is upsetting people.
- DCI Tom Barnaby: Yes, well, I'm sorry, Mrs. Mostyn, but murder tends to do that.
- [first lines]
- Delyth Mostyn: So, my fellow foot-sloggers, this is the plan. We make an early start from Causton and have lunch here at Beddgelert. Then we drive to Gorffwysfa and descending by the Miner's Track we go past Llyn Teryn and Llyn Llydaw, and then we tackle the giant himself: Yr Wyddfa.
- Clifford Rawnsley: I thought we were going to Snowdon.
- [several people laugh]
- Dorothy Hutton: You know the route well, then, Delyth?
- Delyth Mostyn: As a girl, according to my father, I was up and down it like a yo-yo.
- Clifford Rawnsley: So, this trip's a bit of a pilgrimage for you, is it?
- Delyth Mostyn: I suppose so. Fond memories. Most of them.
