Noomi Rapace is set to star in Netflix’s feature film adaptation of “Black Crab,” a Scandinavian action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world, which will be directed by Adam Berg.
The movie will mark Rapace’s return to Scandinavia and her native Sweden after spending the last 10 years abroad starring in films and series such as “Prometheus,” “Sherlock Holmes” and “What Happened to Monday,” as well as indie films like “Daisy Diamond” and “Beyond.”
Unfolding during an endless winter, six soldiers are sent on a dangerous mission across the frozen sea to transport a package that could finally end the war. Equipped with ice skates, unaware of what they’re carrying, or who they can trust, the mission challenges their beliefs and forces them to ask what they’re willing to sacrifice for their own survival.
“I’m very excited to come back to Sweden and do ‘Black Crab.

If the stars do align for certain Cannes V.I.P member filmmakers, 2012's festival might be one steamy event. We have Gaspar Noe who wants to return to the world of X and if Lars von Trier has it his way, his next project would cause a bigger media storm than the one we are already highly anticipating less than two months from now with Melancholia. Screen reports that the director might go with the idea/title of The Nymphomaniac over Dirt in Bedsores for "a film about a woman’s erotic birth, a woman who discovers her eroticism.” Naturally the big question is: which actress would be brave enough to sign up for this role? While many would certainly point to Charlotte Gainsbourg, we offer the suggestion of Noomi Rapace - whose best role to date is in a film not many of you have seen in the extremely bleak,...

I wanted to change my body. I wanted to be a little bit more masculine and get rid of my female body. I wanted to be more like a boy. I wanted to be able to do all the fighting scenes, so I wanted to go into martial arts training. I trained a lot in Thai boxing and kickboxing with this crazy Serbian guy five days a week. I did a lot of preparation, and I also took motorcycle driving lessons, and I cut my hair and pierced myself. - Sex, Swedes, S&M, nudity, murder, mystery, and snow: these things sound more like Thursday night activities to me, yet I found myself trudging through a blizzard on a Wednesday night in February to attend a screening of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” in preparation for my interview with Noomi Rapace, who plays female lead and anti-hero,...

After several decades in front of the camera, August is making her directorial debut with non-other than Noomi Rapace - one of Europe's best actresses who might be best known for her Millennium trilogy, but those who experienced the 2007 film Daisy Diamond know exactly how resilient and raw this actress can be. She is also working with a text that won top literary awards. - #95. - Do Summit Entertainment and Magnolia Pictures have their checkbooks ready? There is a breakout film that probably already received some lowball offers from the U.S. and benefits from a built in audience that existed a couple of years before a film like Let the Right One In made it fashionable for international buyers to go the Swedish thriller route. The foundation was first laid down by author Stieg Larsson whose "Millennium Trilogy" sold like hot cakes in his native Sweden, did just as well in Norway and Denmark, and then took over Europe and the rest of the world. Final result. 15 Million copies sold. Fast forward to 2009. Directed by Niels Arden Oplev, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first installment in what will be an eventual film trilogy, has made tons of dough in large and ancillary markets and has had brisk sales since the Cannes Film Market.

- The folks at IFC Films are apparently looting Scandinavian cinema, I'm losing count here but, I could swear that since Telluride, the distributor has loaded up on tons of films (Worlds Apart, Flame & Citron, Everlasting Moments and Fear Me Not) from the picturesque country of Denmark. Variety reports that the VOD specialist has picked up Danish helmer Simon Staho's marriage drama for an eventual release next year. Staho, who blew my mind away with his avant-garde, very difficult to digest 2007 title Daisy Diamond about a mom’s hatred for her newborn child/life, released Heaven's Heart early this year, commencing with a premiere back in Berlin and more recently, San Sebastian. The picture above looks like a group shot from Abba but tells the story of two married couples who start questioning themselves about the notion of infidelity. ...

- Continuing with our Top Ten lists till the year’s end, we have decided to split what was once called our yearly “Indie Queens and Foreign Femme Fatales” top 10 list (see our 2006 selections here) into two and thus doubling our appreciation and pleasure. Today you’ll be getting our Top 10 Foreign Femme Fatale list, and tomorrow getting a Top Ten list for our favorite indie actresses of the year. Once again this list is not necessarily a list of the year’s absolute best performances, but an appreciation for performance, grace, style, facial symmetry and once again that “je ne sais quoi” factor. Without further ado, here is our 2007 list of Foreign Femme Fatales. 10: Luz Cipriota2007: Fresh young face was the center of attention and confusion for Gael Garcia Bernal’s character (and the actor's directorial debut) in Déficit.2008: Those with a satellite dish can find
