- Julie Hill: Dad... Can I ask you a question?
- Gene Hill: Of course. Anything.
- Julie Hill: What does love feel like to you?
- Gene Hill: I don't know... What do you mean, exactly?
- Julie Hill: Well... Have you ever felt it?
- Gene Hill: I know I love you and Kevin very much. But I don't think that the kind of love you're asking about.
- Julie Hill: It doesn't matter what kind... How is it supposed to feel?
- Gene Hill: I don't think I can explain it right.
- Julie Hill: Try.
- Gene Hill: I think it feels like there's something missing until you have it. Something you've been needing all your life. But more than that. When you know you've lost someone, you find... purpose.
- Julie Hill: What's the purpose?
- Gene Hill: To be there for the people I love.
- Julie Hill: Why?
- Gene Hill: Because the people I love are there for me.
- David: So many people fall in love, right? But so many people are unhappy with it. Why? Because there are people who fall in love and there are people who FALL in LOVE.
- Drew Harris: I'm not sure I follow you.
- David: I spent my whole life trying to find love, trying to control it, make it happen. It never worked. Why? The problem was I never knew what it was. Nobody ever told me know I'd know. What I realized is you can't control the real thing. It's beyond us. There's something bigger out there that just makes it all happen.
- Drew Harris: What? You mean like... fate? But what is fate?
- David: I don't know. We can't know. I mean, it's something that guides our lives.
- Drew Harris: I don't believe in that.
- David: Why not?
- Drew Harris: Well... Because how much of it is fate and how much of it is just you and Amy?
- David: What gives us that kind of power?
- Drew Harris: I don't know... Love.
