"I'll Put a Hex on Him"
wes-connors18 November 2011
At Collinwood, Roger (Louis Edmonds) takes a phone call from Sam. They arrange to meet, by chance, at the Blue Whale. On her way to the family library, Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) agrees to accompany Roger. When the camera follows Roger from the foyer to the drawing room, you get a rare look at the overhead set lights. Some filmed footage introduces the Blue Whale scene, where we find "extra" customers Tom Mixon, Diann Redford and Richard Cook. As always, Bob O'Connell tends bar. At a table, Sam (David Ford) and Maggie (Kathryn Leigh Scott) are having drinks, happy about the coroner's report...

Joe (Joel Crothers) enters, again stood up by "Caroline" (according to Sam). Calling Joe, "The most alone man I've ever seen," Maggie has him join her table. Sam notices Maggie is romantically attracted to Joe. He picks up the vibrations and asks Maggie to dance, beginning a classic couple. Familiar instrumental standards are played for the Blue Whale crowd, rather than the songs Bob Cobert composed for the tavern. Vicki and Roger arrive. Nonchalantly checking the teleprompter, Roger and Sam discuss current events. Sam threatens Roger, who insults both Maggie and Joe. It appears a fight may break out...

Someone was "Barefoot in the Park".
mark.waltz19 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After an absence from a bunch of shows due to the fact that he was appearing on Broadway in "Barefoot in the Park" (and obviously needed some rest), Joel Crothers is back as Joe Haskell in this episode that mostly takes place at the Blue Whale. It's a night out for Roger and Vicki who go to the Blue Whale as well, and this leads to scenes between them there as well as Joe, Maggie and her father. The only real thing of interest that occurs is that Roger finds out that his sister is considering hiring Bill Malloy's former houseeeper, Mrs. Johnson, to work at Collinwood, and he is not at all happy. Good actors, weak script, all filler and no meat.

Filler; occasionally explosive, but still filler

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 78 is another example of filler, merely existing to include a few character interactions between folk who haven't appeared together in the last handful of episodes. The most notable part of it is the meeting between Roger and Sam, which threatens to become explosive. However, the scenes with Joe and Maggie I found pretty dull.
