Did you know
- TriviaAt the end, when Dean and Sam are walking away, Dean says: "Did she look familiar to you?" "No why?" "I don't know. Anyways you hungry?" "No" "Man, for some reason I could really go for some pea soup." Linda Blair played Regan in The Exorcist (1973) and her vomit resembled split pea soup (which was actually used in the film). Linda Blair played the detective in this episode.
- GoofsWhen Sam pulls the rack away from the window to reveal the the name of the store as "Ashland Supplies" (Only Ashland Sup is fully visible as the sign has deteriorated). They turn around and see the name beaming on the wall. The way the sign was on the window was dark letters on a clear glass background so the letters on the wall should have been shadow letters on a sunlit background. It instead was sunlit letters on a shadow background.

Offbeat episode, it's rather fun
The boys being on the edges of society is a theme that is explored a few times in the series. The Winchesters being outsiders, especially criminals, is theme of the series that plays like a B story to the ghost and ghouls. While there are hints of this before-i.e. "Skin"-this episode is the first one that is focused on the notion directly. The writing is amusing and Dean-as-rebel is a germane extension of his character. Add in the supernatural element being helpful-something of a protagonist-for once and this is an offbeat episode that stands up to a lot of the better one across the years. Blair has a nice guest turn and it is nice to see the show pay homage the greats of horror's past.
The plot is deceptively simple in this episode and a lot of tonalities are generated for the show as a whole.
