This documentary reminded me of the brilliant mock documentaries by Christopher Guest (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffmann, This is Spinal Tap) except in this film the grown men and women organizing the various events, such as a 'chocolate festival" in the City of Zutphen, (Zoom in on Zutphen) the gay parade and a classical concert on the canals of Amsterdam, a special shopping promotion in an outlet, a 'fantasy' dress-up day near a castle etc were all real. People here are totally serious and yes, there's lot's of money at stake. It is all business. The notorious unstable weather in The Netherlands always remains a potential spoil sport. The Chinese tourists just stayed safely in their bus for most of the tour and just took in the Chinese comments as they stared out of the windows. The sad thing was that there were very few people who looked like they genuinely had a good time. A rather sad commentary on our culture. Watching this film made me realize why I stay clear of these types of events.
