Outstanding episode is among the best of the series, which begins most atmospherically with curtains of an upstairs room blowing in the wind, before settling in on the eerie interior of the house, as well as others profiled here, which run the gamut of author Washington Irving's old home, to a seaside community, and a home possibly haunted by an old widow, desperate to find her long-lost husband. Parapsychologist and author Hans Holzer is on hand to investigate and interviews many witnesses to the events. Well remembered by fans, and palpably eerie yet melancholy entry is a prime example to showcase this excellent series to future generations, and aspiring filmmakers in stylish minimalism.

In Search Of... "Ghosts" (1977)
This episode from the series takes a look at the possibility of people's spirits remaining on Earth for a variety of reasons. This episode takes a look at two different cases. One is Washington Irving and rather or not his spirit was able to remain in his estate as well as another haunting that happened in Port Clyde, Maine. This certainly isn't the greatest television episode to deal with ghosts but if you're a fan of this series or just ghosts in general then it's entertaining enough and certainly worth watching. I will say that there really wasn't anything creepy about either story but they were at least entertaining enough and the interviews with the witnesses were good.

Back in 77 the Ghosts hunting etc was all new. The episode starts out about a house and creepy events. The family explains the experience. Nothing to scary. The psychic investigators explain the process. Reconnaissance, feelings, research, talk to the room etc. For modern audiences just another cable t v ghost show. The ghost need to be released into the next world etc explainations. Silly show, started out lame and just got lamer. Narration, and interviews are just okay. Watch another In Search off. Five out of ten stars.
