The CGIs are outstanding but that's not what makes this series exceptional. It's a mixture of combat footage, special f/x, and interviews with the pilots involved, when that's possible.
Skilled enemy pilots are given their due, but the fact is that our side -- meaning Americans and Israelis -- always win. And some of our pilots are described as "itching to get into the fight" and "eager for another kill." I suppose most of them were. They're a select group.
The RAF had heroes too, and so did the Japanese, like Saburo Sakai, and the Germans, but we don't learn anything about them or their achievements.
This is a good program, pitting Mig15s against three different versions of the F-86. It's thrilling sometimes. But it could have been better without much more effort.
