Konami’s Silent Hill 2 was first announced back in October 2022 when the game was said to be under development by Bloober Team. There have been leaks and rumors ever since about the release of the highly anticipated remake but nothing official has surfaced. A fan has now spotted a giant poster put up at Gamestop and now fans are hopeful for an imminent announcement soon.
There have been reports of placeholder empty cases of the game in several stores but this was the first time a giant poster was put up. Some fans are still apprehensive about it and believe it to be a marketing tactic to get more pre-orders in.

It’s been over 22 years since the original Silent Hill 2 was published by Konami, and understandably, for many fans, this is too much time to wait for the remake to finally make its debut this year.
So much so that players are still asking when an exact release date will finally be announced, as there are those in the gaming community who claim that the game is ready, but we are just waiting on Konami to set the terms of when we will see it.

For more than two decades, Silent Hill 2 has been considered one of the scariest games of all time. The game was first released for PlayStation 2, then Xbox and PC, and in 2012, a remastered version was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game’s psychological horror story often makes it hard for one to play it alone and in order to tackle this problem, a gamer has been looking for a companion.

In a Facebook Marketplace ad, a gamer posted an ad looking for someone who will sit with him while he plays Silent Hill 2. The ad was posted on the r/playstation subreddit and fans agree that the game is so scary that looking for a companion for it is completely valid.

PlayStation 5 fans are not very fortunate this year; the crop of exclusives that are coming to this platform will be noticeably thinner in 2024. But the few games that are being released for this platform are incredibly well made. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, and this year’s biggest surprise hit, Helldivers 2.

Developers of the Silent Hill 2 remake acknowledge the flaws in its recent trailer. Silent Hill 2's Combat Reveal trailer depicts slick combat mechanics that deviate from the original game's horrifying realism. Bloober Team's CEO suggests the trailer doesn't accurately represent the final product.
Without so much as a release date, the Silent Hill 2 remake is already marred by controversy - and as it turns out, even the developers agree. The remake, developed by Bloober Team, is part of a wider attempt by publisher Konami to revive the defunct franchise. It follows the disastrous release of Silent Hill: Ascension and the half-decent preview provided by Silent Hill: The Short Message. The latest trailer for the remake, released as part of January 2024's PlayStation State of Play, was immediately lambasted on release for failing to understand why people loved the original SIlent Hill 2.

The combat-heavy trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake didn’t “capture the spirit of the game,” says Bloober Team boss Piotr Babieno, implying that Konami was responsible.
Unveiled during Sony’s State Of Play online event in January, the latest trailer for Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2 didn’t exactly go down a storm with fans.
Although there were some complaints that the revival of Konami’s much-loved survival horror didn’t look great in the graphics department, the more common gripe was that its seeming focus on punching and shooting flew in the face of the original game’s creeping dread.
“Ah yes, the combat,” one comment read at the time. “That thing that everyone remembers and loves about Silent Hill 2.”
In a somewhat testy response to those criticisms, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has said that Konami – the game’s publisher – was “entirely responsible for that trailer.

For fifty-nine episodes, Sophie Turner played the role of Sansa Stark on the hit series Game of Thrones. For sixty-two episodes, Kit Harington played the role of Jon Snow on that same show. And now Turner and Harington are set to work together again, as Deadline reports that they have both signed on to star in the Gothic horror film The Dreadful! This film is coming our way from writer/director Natasha Kermani, who has previously directed the thriller Shattered, the sci-fi drama Imitation Girl, and the horror film Lucky, as well as multiple short films and a segment of the horror anthology V/H/S/85.
The Dreadful will be set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses, which took place from 1455 to 1487. The story follows Anne (Turner) and her mother-in-law Morwen, who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man (Harington) from their past returns,...

To no one’s surprise, fans jumped at the chance to return to the series with last week’s release of Silent Hill: The Short Message. The free-to-play game reportedly logged over a million downloads since its launch during the Sony State of Play last Thursday, with Konami taking to X to announce the big news.
Much like the game’s namesake, Konami was short but sweet with their announcement, thanking all those who played the game.
This is certainly welcome news for Konami after the questionable response from fans and critics over last year’s Silent Hill: Ascension, which despite the interesting concept, didn’t quite endear itself to fans looking for a traditional return of the franchise.
Obviously, the next big test will be the long-awaited and anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake that’s currently being developed by Bloober Team. We did get a glimpse at the combat mechanics last week,...

The Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team doesn't live up to the fear and psychological uncertainty of the original, focusing too much on combat. The decision to prioritize action and appeal to a mass market audience is a misguided approach that risks alienating fans of the series. The remake fails to capture the unique atmosphere and gameplay elements that made the original Silent Hill 2 a beloved classic, and fans are left without a satisfactory way to play the original game.
The upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake brings a beloved horror classic back to life, but at the current stage, it doesn't look like the project is going to live up to the original. The Silent Hill series is charging full steam ahead out of a long hiatus, bouncing back from nearly a decade absent of any entries with a substantial batch of new games and experiences. Silent Hill: The Short Message is a free, first-person horror game that explores themes of self-harm, suicide, and abuse. The gameplay in The Short Message is not groundbreaking, but the story is handled well and has the potential to engage players. The game effectively incorporates modern elements, such as text messages and references to the Covid-19 pandemic, while also featuring the involvement of original Team Silent members.
Silent Hill: The Short Message is heavily themed around self-harm, suicide, and abuse, and it is impossible to discuss the game without also talking about these points in some detail. Reader discretion is encouraged.
Konami's Silent Hill: The Short Message is the company's first real attempt to return to the series since Hideo Kojima's P.T. experiment, and serves as an interesting parallel to what came before. P.T. was originally billed as a demo for an unnamed game from 7780s Studio,...

After a couple of delays, Thq’s belated remake of Alone in the Dark is almost upon us and we couldn’t be more hyped. After all, the title is poised to breathe fresh life into what was once recognized as the granddaddy of survival horror (even though it predates that label by a good few years).

The first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake was unveiled at the Playstation State Of Play event.

Disappointingly, there’s no release date attached to the trailer. Sony did previously promise that the game would arrive in 2024, but that remains to be seen.
The game will follow in the footsteps of the 2001 original. You will play as James Sunderland, who travels to Silent Hill, looking for his deceased wife Mary after receiving a letter that she is alive.

We happen to be lucky enough to live in a timeline where horror is unquestionably crushing at the box office and otherwise. People are lining up in droves not only to see men in tights throwing down to save the universe in superhero flicks but to see monsters and ghouls doing horrible and heinous things to human beings. And no, I’m not talking about congress. I’m talking about some good old-fashioned wear your brown pants to the theater and leave the kids at home (or don’t I don’t judge) , horror flicks. I can’t promise you everything is going to be okay in 2024. Not with Ezra Miller roaming the streets, but I can promise you this… we’ve got a lot of great horror flicks headed our way. Probably. Well, they sound cool.

Details about Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake have been minimal over the past year, but the developer says “production is progressing smoothly”…
Seemingly making up for lost time, Konami announced a whole wave of new Silent Hill games last year. Among the most anticipated is a remake of Silent Hill 2, which is being handled by Polish developer, Bloober Team.
A year later, and little has been seen from Bloober’s remake, which will revise the 2001 classic of the same name for a new generation of hardware. Perhaps conscious of the radio silence – or maybe somewhat weary of all the messages from fans asking for more information – Bloober Team has taken to Twitter (or X) with an update.
“As Bloober Team, we are proud to be a part of Konami’s plan for the Silent Hill franchise,” the studio wrote in a statement. “Alongside our partner, we are...

Silent Hill: The Short Message explores difficult, real-world themes through a survival horror lens, capturing what made the original Silent Hill games successful. But in order to revitalize the franchise, The Short Message needs to avoid the mistakes of prior releases like Silent Hill: Ascension. Other upcoming Silent Hill projects like the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill F have potential, but their success remains to be seen.
This article contains mention of suicide.
Even though the Silent Hill series is in dire straits, Silent Hill: The Short Message could be poised to save it. Once upon a time, Silent Hill was the first and last name in survival horror. It had a series of hits in its early years: the creepily atmospheric original Silent Hill in 1999, followed by the captivating emotional journey of Silent Hill 2. Gameplay wise, the series began to stagnate a bit beginning with Silent...

Silent Hill: Ascension falls short in its attempt to revive the series, lacking the depth and mystique of the classic Silent Hill titles. The interactive element of Ascension, where viewers can vote on the story's path, is marred by a voting system that favors those willing to spend money. While Ascension was a disappointment, there is still hope for the series with the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which can learn from Ascension's mistakes and deliver a true revival.
Silent Hill: Ascension has released its first episode, but it hasn't kicked off the series' attempt at a revival positively. Since the cancelation of Silent Hills, the series has been in an uncertain state, but the announcement of several new games and a remake of Silent Hill 2 sparked hope for a revitalization. Unfortunately, Silent Hill: Ascension had multiple flaws preventing it from living up to its potential.

Silent Hill has experienced a decline in quality in recent years, with the latest release, Silent Hill Ascension, which has been met with criticism from fans. The upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake has raised concerns among fans worried about changes to the franchise's canon. Despite the disappointments, there is hope for the franchise with two new games, Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill F, in development and a new movie called Return to Silent Hill.
For almost two decades, the Silent Hill franchise has not had the best of luck with critical or commercial reception - for good reason, the last outstanding game released under the Silent Hill banner was arguably back in 2004. Although this may change with three upcoming games and a movie, the latest release, Silent Hill Ascension, as well as a steady stream of disheartening rumors has made it a terrible time to be a Silent Hill fan.

With all of the talk about Silent Hill 2, it’s easy to forget about the other Silent Hill games that were announced by Konami, and even the ones that weren’t officially announced. That latter point, of course, refers to Silent Hill: The Short Message, which when we last heard about it, had its info leaked by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee.
Now it’s the Australian Classification Board (Acb) doing the leaking. Per Video Games Chronicle, in the board’s annual report, alongside rating the game as MA15+ for “Strong suicide themes, horror violence, and coarse language”, the Acb has revealed new information regarding The Short Message.
Do note that these next sections includes spoilers, so be warned.
According to the report, Silent Hill: The Short Message is an “exploration‑based psychological horror game” that centres on characters in an apartment building called The Villa in modern‑day Germany.

The upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2 will apparently include a playable origin story for Pyramid Head, an iconic monster from the original game. This new content coming to the remake was discovered via a pre-order listing for the upcoming survival horror game, which is being developed by Bloober Team. Fans have already voiced their concerns over such changes to the source material, as providing more context to Pyramid Head could fundamentally ruin the character.
As development continues on the upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2, the game's pre-order information has revealed that it will seemingly include an origin story for one of the game's most iconic villains, Pyramid Head - which, unfortunately, has a good chance of turning out poorly. No further information has been released as of this time. Our original story has been left unchanged as a reference for this new information.
Recently, the team behind Silent Hill: Ascension (an interactive series based on the Silent Hill franchise) had to shut down the chat feature that was supposed to be an essential part of the entire interactive experience. Why? Well, it turns out that the chat function was being overworked/abused by fans who kept spamming often lurid requests regarding, among other things, the sexual acts they would like Pyramid Head to perform on them.

There are those who would have you believe the last 23 years of horror gaming have been a notable low point for the genre. However, horror gaming hasn’t gone away; it’s simply changed. Like a muted monster bursting from a lab, modern horror has escaped the confines of the Triple-a gaming industry and mutated into something more terrifying than even the horror gaming genre’s creators could have ever imagined.
We’ve been “treated” to the release of some of the most terrifying games you’ll ever have the fortune (or misfortune) of experiencing. As indie developers pushed the boundaries of how much terror we’re willing to tolerate in the name of entertainment, major studios responded with a new wave of digital nightmares. It’s been an era of unprecedented experimentation that has resulted in some of the most exciting examples of horror gaming ever unleashed upon the public.

I love horror sequels to a degree I can not always defend. Mind you, I’m not just talking about the ones that are generally considered to be great. On any given night, I will gleefully watch something like Amityville 1992: It’s About Time, Maniac Cop 2, Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2, Pet Semetary 2, or pretty much any slasher sequel.
As I’ve tried to make sense of what it is that is so appealing about those sequels (beyond their individual charms), I’ve arrived at only one somewhat logical conclusion. Horror sequels are often, in their own ways, pretty bold. That’s even true of some of those “lesser” horror sequels. Armed with a small budget, a recognizable name, and little oversight, the directors and writers of those sequels ran with the rare opportunity to get their wild ideas on screen. That devil-may-care attitude often makes so many...

While waiting for the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake, players can enjoy other survival horror games like the original Silent Hill 2, Dead Space Remake, and Resident Evil 2 Remake. The Medium by Bloober Team is a visually impressive game with intriguing puzzles and disturbing imagery that will satisfy Silent Hill fans. Alan Wake, The Evil Within, The Last Of Us, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Outlast, and Silent Hill 4 are all excellent choices to play while waiting for Silent Hill 2 Remake.
It’s unclear how long it will be until Silent Hill 2 Remake gets an official launch date, but there are plenty of fantastic horror games to play during the wait. The survival horror genre has been experiencing something of a renaissance in recent years, much like the initial surge the genre had when the Silent Hill series was just getting started. As one of the most successful movie genres, horror can be so lucrative for actors that many beloved names have tried their hand at the devil's favorite style. From Carrie Fisher in Scream 3 to Bill Murray in Zombieland, plenty of unlikely actors have appeared in the genre, with that trend not set to change anytime soon. One such actor entering their first leading role in a horror flick is Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington. While Harington has previously appeared as Vincent in Silent Hill: Revelation, the upcoming Alexander J. Farrell-directed What Remains of Us stands as Harington's first major role in the genre as a worldwide star. So, with that in mind, and with plenty of information available about the cast, crew, and more, here is everything we know about What Remains of Us so far.

When I sit and play a video game, I want to be so immersed in the experience that I actually feel something while playing. If I’m on a quest, the game should make me feel the elation of discovery or the exhilaration of conquest after vanquishing a foe. But, of all the emotions I want to experience playing a video game, the most intoxicating is having the $%&@ scared out of me. I may not remember the experience of putting down a difficult boss in a game, but I will definitely remember dropping a controller because something jumped out at me in a dark corridor.
There is definitely something about fear that draws us to endeavors that we know are going to frighten us. In this sense, horror video games are much like horror movies, but gaming horror may be just a bit more terrifying. Unlike movies, while playing a video game,...

The title closest to equaling RE4‘s total wins was rose-engine’s Alien-esque Survival Horror title Signalis, which snagged the awards for Best Narrative of the Year and Best Indie Horror of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Horror Game Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award went to Mikael Hedberg, lead writer for the upcoming Alone in the Dark remake, as well as Amnesia: Rebirth and Soma.

First announced back in May, Feardemic’s voting for the Horror Game Awards is now open for you, the fans, to decide the best of 2022’s crop of horror video games. It’s up to you to decide who receives Golden Bats in each of the 13 categories between all of your favorite games.
The Horror Game Awards are part of Feardemic’s horror extravaganza, Fear Fest, which is being run in partnership with IGN, and will take place on September 6th & 7th. The Silent Hill 2 remake has all the advantages of a stone-cold horror game classic behind it, but Slitterhead, from the original creator of Silent Hill, stands a solid chance of stealing the spotlight. The new incarnation of Silent Hill 2 is being developed by Bloober Team, the studio behind modern horror hits like Layers of Fear and Observer. Although this pedigree will likely appeal to many fans of these games, not everyone has complete confidence that Bloober is going to pull off the gargantuan task of re-imagining a genre centerpiece.
One primary cause for concern comes from recent remarks made by Bloober Team on the Silent Hill 2 remake, which established that the studio is moving away from a focus on developing psychological horror and toward mass-market appeal. Considering how much of Silent Hill 2's efficacy came from subtle atmospheric elements and unsettling implications, the connotation that Bloober...

Silent Hill: Ascension is not quite a video game and not quite a streaming series, but what exactly that means - and its similarities to other interactive media like Netflix's Black Mirror: Bandersnatch - is worth exploring. Konami seems to be throwing a lot of Silent Hill content at the wall in hopes that something will stick. The Silent Hill 2 remake's projected release date is drawing nearer, When They Cry creator Ryūkishi07 is hard at work on the 1960s Japan-set prequel Silent Hill F, and a film franchise reboot, Return to Silent Hill, is underway.

Silent Hill 2 is being remade, and that's already enough to make some players anxious over the question of how faithful developers will be to the original. However, receiving news about the development team can make that concern grow regarding how authentic the remake is. Konami handed off the development of Silent Hill 2's remake to Bloober Team, but Bloober Team recently made an announcement that - at a glance - can seem like a cause for concern regarding the future of Silent Hill 2.
Bloober Team is the studio behind psychological horror games such as Layers of Fear and The Medium. While Silent Hill 2 involves more action than the games that Bloober Team usually develops, its experience with psychological aspects of horror seemed fitting since Silent Hill 2 puts a heavy emphasis on James' psychological state. When the original Layers of Fear was released back in 2016, the survival-horror genre was in a dire position. Sure you had games like Amnesia and Outlast carrying the torch of horror in the indie scene, but you saw most publishers shy away from the genre as a whole in a post Resident Evil 6 world. This was upended when Konami revealed that none other than Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro were collaborating on a brand new Silent Hill game, which was revealed with a playable teaser called P.T. That game never saw the light of day but ideas and concepts in the teaser helped inspire Bloober Team to create Layers of Fear, a moody and atmospheric horror game that focuses less on outrunning enemies and more on telling the story of one man’s descent into madness as he struggles to create his magnum opus.

New information about Return to Silent Hill makes it a highly anticipated movie. The reboot is part of the Silent Hill movie series, which is based on the survival-horror Konami video game franchise of the same name. The first Silent Hill movie depicts a mom's fight to find her daughter in the titular town — encountering billowing fog, a cult, and demons in the process — and the adaptation maintains a cult following. A direct sequel called Silent Hill: Revelation followed the first movie, tanking in the eyes of critics and audiences alike. Despite that disappointing first sequel, Return to Silent Hill has gained a large amount of hype.
Return to Silent Hill will again send characters to the titular spooky town, which is modeled after Centralia, Pennsylvania, the real place that inspired Silent Hill and its backstory. Like the first movie, the production team behind Return to Silent Hill looked to...

Yeah, we’re all psyched for the Silent Hill 2 remake. But what about the big collaboration involving Behaviour Interactive, Bad Robot Games, Genvid and DJ2 Entertainment with Silent Hill: Ascension? Wonder no more, as Genvid Entertainment and Konami Digital Entertainment have dropped a new trailer and info for the upcoming interactive streaming series coming later this year.
Silent Hill: Ascension follows multiple main characters from locations around the world tormented by new and terrifying monsters from the world of Silent Hill. Lurking in the shadows, these monsters threaten to consume people, their children, and entire towns as they’re drawn into the darkness by both recent murders and long suppressed guilt and fears.
In Silent Hill: Ascension, the actions of millions will determine the outcome. That’s right, not even the project’s creators know how the series will end. Instead, the character’s fates are in the audience’s hands.

While remakes of beloved games can be exciting, this might be a case where the port of the original games is more exciting than the remake of MGS3. Some of this can be attributed to players knowing what they're getting for the most part when it comes to ports, aside from technical issues that might come up. But there are a few other aspects regarding MGS3' remake that could leave players feeling uncertain.
Metal Gear Solid 3 could use changes and improvements to bring it up to modern technology standards, but it doesn't need a full remake in the style of other recent remakes like Resident Evil 4 or Final Fantasy 7. As it stands, the port of the original trilogy is a...

It has been a long time coming, but I am finally making my way through the Silent Hill franchise. I dusted off my cobweb-covered PSP classic three years ago to play the original. Two years ago, Neil and I were joined by Matt Jordan to celebrate Silent Hill 2‘s 20th anniversary. And This week, we’re celebrating yet another milestone, Silent Hill 3‘s 20th anniversary!
Playing these games in such short succession to one another has felt like nothing short of a crash course in a realm of survival horror that goes beyond traditional conventions. To be 20 years removed from such experiences’ original release and their groundbreaking storytelling is still as potent indicates their timelessness.
