A who's who from the wide range of Pop "Comin' Home" is a musical and visual treat on one of the finest gigs from Rock's golden age. Held in the Generation Club in New York City in 1968 the performance is a tribute to the recently deceased Martin Luther King Jr. And it's quite the blast. Big Brother & The Holding Company, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, B. B. King, Buddy Guy and Ritchie Havens grace the eclecticism and variety of the concert. Highlights include Big Brother's fixating performance highlighting Janis Joplin as the force of nature and natural performer that she was and Jimi Hendrix getting upstaged by a Roy Buchanan lookalike to a funky beat. Amusing scenes like Buddy Guy trying to impress a bemused Hendrix in the audience and B. B. King's ramshackle performance leaving a bewildered Paul Butterfield clutching his harmonica wondering what to do add color to the event. It's unfortunate the gig had to end with a dull performance by Ritchie Havens. A historic moment captured for posterity "Comin' Home" brings an era to life when Gods walked the earth and the future had promise.
