Warning: Spoilers
The episode was a bit rushed. The beginning was confusing, but of course, everything was explained throughout the episode. The last 10 or so minutes absolutely made the episode. The last few minutes were BRILLIANT. They tied up every loose end. While the first few minutes were disappointing, the whole thing came together to make one great episode!! I absolutely loved the flashbacks Ryan had of when he first came to the Cohen's, and when he first saw Marissa. I loved how it showed Julie graduating from college, Seth and Summer's wedding, and Ryan being an architect. And the last minute where Ryan saw himself in the boy and asked "Hey kid, need any help?" was a perfect final line for this show. It really brought back what The OC was all about to begin with. I will certainly miss this show dearly.

simply one of the best
ayush198724 July 2007
finally after a dragged on season 4 the makers managed to give The OC a satisfying ending...even though the earthquake occurring in new port beach din make much of a sense initially....the following episodes did once again remind me of how beautiful The OC was in the beginning(season 1 nd 2). season 4 had become kind of weird with characters like Che being introduced unnecessarily...but once more the last episode pulled it off brilliantly by throwing light on all characters and reminding us of what they actually were as they had lost their uniqueness for which they are so popular,...just wish the final season 4 cud have been better but kudos to the makers for a great episode that tied up all the loose ends and gave the viewers a treat, a boon of an episode as a season finale!!!

Spent the last 3 months watching the series. Didn't watch it when it aired. The 10 minutes I was crying like a baby! What a great ending!

A good ending.

The ending was good not great. I think that they should have been given at least a season longer so that the last 10 minutes of the last episode didn't seem so cluttered. Oh and i think the icing would have been Ryan giving that little kid a ride in his car and it ending with an acoustic version of phantom planet- California...What do ya think?

As for Taylor not being a suit for Ryan i have to disagree i thought she fitted in well, she could never replace Marissa but she did a good job.

However i do agree about the whole Che being introduced a bit pointless, great actor pointless character.

The End's Not Near, It's Here (#4.16)

Warning: Spoilers
6 months after the earthquake the Cohens are living with the Coopers. But their house can't be rescued anymore. When looking for the new one with a lot of help and events happening they end up with their old house in Berkley. Summer goes to do political activism, but as we see she comes back and gets married to Seth! Julie doesn't marry anyone at the end, but both Frank and Bullit are there when she graduates university. And Ryan succeeds as architect and as we see at the end he may help a kid just like Sandy did back in the days for him.

I really liked the finale. They wrapped it all up for us in satisfying manner. Which is impressive as it got cancelled earlier than expected, for that they gave us the fast forward at the end to see how it all goes And they even started in an unpredictable way and put so much into one episode! I like how it went for Julie, graduating university! And she stayed in touch with the important men in her life. We get a glimpse of the special wedding of Seth and Summer (I must say, Summer was the character for whom my opinion has changed from the beginning. I couldn't stand her, I thought she was dumb and no way should Seth be with her. But at the end she became smart, caring and I think they are a wonderful couple. Great character development), and Summer still got to follow her love for environment. Sandy living with his family in Berkley and being a professor was sweet as well. And the final scene was just perfect. They went all the way, Ryan the kid who got saved by people with a big heart is now about to do the same. The world is becoming a better place.

The Finale is Perfection
alexandras13041 June 2021
I just binged this series. I unfortunately did not watch it when it aired (which was when I was actually in high school myself lol) but I am definitely glad that I have now. I think this last season in general was so fun compared to the others. It's darker at times, but also quirckier. The finale wraps up amazingly with a fitting and happy ending for all the characters! I loved it and it unexpectedly made me cry happy tears and that does not happen too often lol!

Perfect ending
sentacs30 January 2019
The ending is perfect. It would have been so great to see this all happen in another season but for an ending, it was perfect that way. That we got to see everything happen that we hoped for in the end. Watching it still always makes me cry again and again. I love this show. One of the very best ever.

This show is amazing
freebpandstuff3 January 2018
I really liked this finale even more thin comedy fan. The way they wrapped everything up was almost perfect. I did feel like it left me wondering about some of the main players. Will, Homer, AJ and how is Jimmy's yacht selling buisness going? Its understandable that they had to leave a few thing out with the show getting cancelled earlier than expected. Its sad to see it go but at least there are still fans out there keeping it alive with awsome podcasts.

The end
jalhamdani23 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Everybody settles into their new lives. Ryan registers for classes, Summer joins in a protest, Seth hangs a newspaper photo of said protest in his new dorm room and Sandy lectures his new class at Berkeley. Years later, Julie graduates from college. Frank, Kaitlin, their son and Bullit all cheer wildly from the audience. Seth and Summer get married, with Ryan standing in as the best man. The maid of honor, Taylor, smiles at him knowingly. Ryan leaves his job at a construction site. His white collar foreman job. Heading to his car, Ryan notices a sullen young boy sitting on a wall by a pay phone. The troubled boy looks a bit like a young Ryan. Ryan calls out to him, asking if he needs any help. His expression indicates that he most likely does. and then it was over. For good.

Warning: Spoilers
"I'll unpack later."

The series finale of the O. C. wrapped up every character's story arc in a fitting and satisfying way. Julie deciding to stay single and pursue an education, Sandy teaching college law, Ryan setting foot on a college campus, Summer finding her voice and discovering herself, Seth following his own dreams and being supportive of Summer, Summer giving Julie a locket with a picture of Marissa, Taylor and Ryan confessing their feelings towards each other (in their own ambiguous way), finally seeing Seth and Summer tie the knot, and Ryan's full circle moment at the end was bittersweet to witness. It's a win for me. What more can you ask for in a series finale.

Final verdict: 10/10.

Thanks, I hate it
anhard-von-thuengen3 March 2023
I am aware the show got cancelled and they wanted to wrap it up, but why in the name of God did they open up a thousand new conflicts? Ryan and Taylor, Seth and Summer, Julie and Frank, all of them are all of a sudden estranged for whatever reason. All of them had satisfying character arcs until this point and now they start to have new ones that they have to hastily resolve within one final episode. And don't even get me started on their characterisation. Summer telling Julie she felt a little too comfortable in her relationship with Seth with Julie replying: "I wouldn't know" doesn't make any sense. She was married to Jimmy for what? 15 years? And she got very comfortable towards the end of their marriage, not even wanting to hear about his problems. This episode was written by the shows creator and honestly it has jarring parallels to the ending of game of thrones. Character don't act like themselves all of a sudden, rushed ending, unnecessary conflict, all written by the same people who started the show. I still love the overall show and as a teenager I watched it several times, but for reasons I now completely understand, I couldn't remember the ending. There were so many memorable moments throughout the show that I was eagerly awaiting but this episode I hardly remember. Apparently it is just extremely forgettable and doesn't seem connected to the rest of the show. Like a dream that doesn't make sense which makes it hard to remember it after you wake up. I can live with this ending, but it could have been a lot better.

A decent ending with some flaws
dianamarinelli3 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'll give it some credit that the show was cancelled and had think of how to end the show. I like how everyone's storylines ended. I like the flashback of Ryan first time at the o.c. and looking at the homeless kid near him. Summer and seth finally get married since their endgame and Love pancakes. Julie cooper was the best developed character in the show and her being single was better since she doesn't need a man to define her and got her college education.

My issues were that they crammed everything in 43 minutes and they should have made it to a 2 hour finale but overall it was a great series to watch

final shot
gjw16 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
>> Quote from a previous message: "...the final shot of him (in the future as a presumably successful guy) talking to a kid like he was as a youngster was, well too dumb."

"Too dumb?" Think about it. Ryan's story was one of salvation. The series began with Ryan as an abused kid in a lot trouble, who was rescued from a dead-end future in Chino because Sandy took the time to care about a stranger's problems. In the ending, Ryan sees his former self in another troubled kid, and he has finally learned enough from Sandy's example to care about that kid's problems. Ryan's salvation is complete. Not only has Sandy's generosity allowed him to become a successful architect, but Sandy has also managed to instill in him the good values and warm heart that Ryan's original family was so sorely lacking. It was a very appropriate final scene.

goodbye O.C.
RavenGlamDVDCollector1 February 2017
Too much crammed into this one. Clearly they tried to make up for being cancelled by condensing everything into this short space. It doesn't really work, but I won't complain too much.

Everybody's on about the boy at the end. Much ado about that. While the memory of Marissa wasn't properly presented in the Fourth Season. Come on, people, THE O.C. without Marissa Cooper would have been like cornflakes without the milk. I am glad there was that final tribute to her, the locket, and the drive-past scene (that one got me, I mean, tears!!)... But the most unsatisfactory thing about Season Four was that too little was shown about Ryan grieving the loss of Marissa.

Then again, it's dumb Ryan, shucks, episode after episode I began belittling him, good thing it ended, I developed zero tolerance for that cold bore, what with his every-day-at-the- barber short short hair and his obvious lack of affection for cute if crazy Taylor.

I have mixed emotions of the show.

Mischa Barton, the best. Willa Holland, very, very good. Autumn Reeser, unexpected, did her very best, had tough competition's memory to live up to, amazingly succeeded.

As for Sandy and Kirsten, they truly are worthy of being ranked as famous lovers. They made a most wonderful Mom and Dad. They were THE TV couple. No, they were THE film couple. They made marriage romantic. That one's coming from RavenGlamDVDCollector, it is some compliment.

Seth and Summer, Captain Oats and Princess Sparkle. There were moments.

A very, very special mention to Melinda Clarke. From the beginning, I said something like "I'm glad that they didn't make her a cardboard character." And then she landed up in a trailer park and in-between all the trailer trash jokes (that guy who cooked pigeons) she found her humanity and the producers saw how good M.C. was at comedy and the rest is history. Of course her early years on THE O.C. was a practice run for Amanda, her later incarnation in NIKITA, but that's another story. Suffice to say, her shares rose with me every episode.

The one I will really miss: super-cute Willa Holland. Oh, big sigh. What a find she was! Lived up to being Marissa Cooper's sister. Worthy, super-worthy.

The final word: Marissa should not have been written out of THE O.C. It should have been Marissa + Kaitlin + Taylor in the final season.

What Happened!!
lizzethjandrade17 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I started to watch the show at the beginning of it and it was good very good until they killed Marissa i think they should have sent her away and even before she die the cute girl that she always played became the devil and that is something that i think the viewers didn't like very much because like that her relationship with Ryan was never going to be the same and by killing her i think they create a lot of sadness in the show when it was a roamantic -drama show not all drama and even then they should have put a better looking girlfriend for Ryan, a girl like Kaitlin but older because let's face it Taylor is nice but the season before she was like the crazy one and when they tried to present her with the leading role i think that the suit was too big so all of this made a not so good finale because the producers i think they rushed in to it they didn't think it trough they could have made the show last for another 4 seasons and they didn't and in my opinion just for a silly mistake.

Love The O.C.
newportsurfer1325 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I have loved the show since the premiere, but I felt let down on the finale for watching the show for four years for that finale.. I wish there was a little more Marissa emotions and stuff like that. Maybe Julie taking her's and Frank's son to Marissa's grave and telling him "This is your big sister." or something along the lines of that. Bullit became a jerk in the finale too, I wasn't too sure if he still loved Julie or not. He seemed more interested in being married, not her feelings. The last three minutes were the most confusing of all. The episode already skips 6 months at the beginning but then what does it skip after? 9 months, 4/5/6 years, 10 years? Was the kid Ryan saw Theresa's? So many questions unanswered. Can't wait for the reunion, hope they would show a full wedding scene for Seth and Summer instead of the 2 seconds they showed of it... Spend less time on Julie's Schwartz! She didn't even get married!
