During this season of the Super Friends cartoon series, the team were pitted against an array of historic pop culture villains or placed in pop-fiction settings to solve a problem or defeat villains.
This one involves Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" characters. Doctor Frankenstein (pronounced here as "Franken-shtein") is here, as well as his assistant "Gor" (Igor, essentially), as well as The Monster itself (referred in Shelley's novel as Adam). Aquaman and the Wonder Twins are off visiting Atlantis, so they aren't part of the fun this time. The main characters featured here are Batman, Robin, Superman and Wonder Woman.
The goal of Dr. Frankenstein is to capture Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman and to transfer their abilities into a newly created android monster.
Here we effectively have a cartoon version of "The Composite Superman" villain character from DC Comics.
During the conflict, Robin is helped by a rat that curiously resembles the animated version of "Templeton" from "Charlotte's Web" (produced around the same time).
Later in the episode, a curious twist allows Robin, traditionally considered one of the weaker Justice League members, to confront the super-android head-on! Even monkey sidekick Gleek gets to contribute something.
