Modern Sci-Fi meets old Arabian tales in the SuperFriends Show Warning: Spoilers
MODERN SCI-FI MEETS OLD ARABIAN TALES IN THE SUPERFRIENDS SHOW

------- ------- ------- -------

This episode of the Superfriends is a modern remix of the old stories about genies trapped in mysterious places such as lamps from the Arabian traditions and some cosmic and modern elements like making a distant desert planet the location for most of the story and having spaceships that resemble magic flying carpets one of the main means of transportation of that same planet.

During the episode, the Superfriends have to fight an evil genie and the malignant Sheik that gets to own the lamp where he is located and as you can guess, you have to rub the lamp three times to make the genie appear.

I think it is an interesting episode and an introductory way to waken the interest of the viewer in the tales of the east part of the world, mainly in this case, the Arabian ones, same as other episodes from this same season seem created to waken the interest in other cultures or even specific books and legends.

One of the things that happen in this episode and for which I want to give my explanation is the fact of Superman being almost powerless during his stay in the weird inner world of the lamp compared to how powerful he normally . The reason for this is explained by the genie when he said that he would be "no stronger than his shadow in the inner world of the lamp". That is why he and other characters could be rescued from the branches of some creepy trees by Jayna that had just turned into an elephant, because she was big enough to confront the trees and her trunk was wider than their branches, thus, casting a larger shadow.

There are other small mistakes in the story that, nevertheless will stay as mistakes, like Wonder Woman not deactivating a pair of missiles launched by the bad guys before tying them with her lasso and sending them to the ground.

One of the many things I like from this episode (and this season in general) is Robin performing as efficiently as all the other SuperFriends handcuffing two opponents at the same time while they were fighting the forces of the evil Sheik.

Thanks for reading.
