- The company calls on the legendarily destructive Bob Bastard to test the Gruntmaster machine.
- When it comes time to test the Gruntmaster exercise machine, the Pointy-Haired Boss subjects the employees to the company of Bob Bastard (born Robert Childbornoutofwedlock; "it's Icelandic," he insists). Bob submits the prototype to the worst tests imaginable-- culminating in the "Asteroid Crash Simulation Test."—Anonymous
- The GruntMuster 6000 is ready for environmental testing, which puts Dilbert on edge. The Tester, Bob Bastard, is a legendarily obnoxious and sadistic employee who delights in turning down people's ideas. Indeed, he rigs various trials of the GruntMaster so that the product fails. Alice develops a crush on Bob, and Wally begins to worship him (even mocking his luchadora outfit and dubbing himself "Wally Bastard"), but Dilbert is immune to Bob's appeal. Bob reveals to Dilbert that he was once a nerdy outcast himself, but after being deformed in an accident, he took revenge on society by rejecting every idea that came through his office. Surprisingly, this made him popular, and Bob, proclaiming himself "a victim of society", explains his misanthropy as a result of cultural conditioning. Dilbert remains determined to succeed with the GruntMaster, and he enlists the help of Dogbert, who is in space with the Space Shuttle Columbia, to foil Bob's asteroid collision test with a laser built by Dilbert. Dogbert succeeds, but Bob tries to take out the GruntMaster with his own craft - leaving it up to Dilbert and Alice to foil Bob by pushing the prototype out of the way just in time. Having seen Bob slurping coffee, Alice no longer finds him attractive, and the GruntMaster is approved.
