[This story contains spoilers from the May 23 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “I Carry Your Heart.”]
Caterina Scorsone and Kevin McKidd may not have been part of the original cast of Grey’s Anatomy. But in the last 15 years, between Grey’s and its two spinoffs, Private Practice and Station 19, Scorsone and McKidd have both logged enough hours in the O.R. to become two of the longest-lasting actors of the venerable ABC medical drama, which was recently renewed for a record-extending 21st season. (In the Grey’s universe, McKidd has played Dr. Owen Hunt in over 350 episodes; Scorsone has played Dr. Amelia Shepherd in over 280.)
At this point, the characters and the fictional world they live in feel as real to the audience as the actors who play them. While Grey’s began as a soapy romantic drama that followed the lives of surgeons at a Seattle teaching hospital, the show has indubitably become a cultural touchstone — and, in turn,...

One of the most popular medical television series, Grey's Anatomy, already has 20 seasons. In 2019, it broke the duration record previously set by ER – 427 episodes against 332. More than three thousand actors have already participated in the show, not many of them are remembered by the viewers, but there is one character who died back in season 11, but is still loved by fans – Dr. Derek Shepherd.
Why Did Patrick Dempsey Leave Grey's Anatomy?
Grey's Anatomy was left without everyone's favorite Dr. Shepherd after Patrick Dempsey had a falling out with showrunner Shonda Rhimes. As it turns out, Dempsey had been complaining about his character's storyline for a long time, implying that he didn't have enough screen time.
The situation was aggravated by the fact that the actor cheated on his wife with one of the assistant producers of Grey's Anatomy. Their affair added to the tension on the set, as many of Dempsey's co-stars knew his wife.

A reunion between estranged siblings had an emotional impact.
But with Station 19 Season 7 Episode 7, the season is winding down, and we're waiting for the pieces to fall into place as the possible conclusion of the series nears.
Join Ellie Mv, Heather M., and TV Fanatic Haley Whitmire White, and they unpack the hour.
Did the conclusion of Carina's lawsuit underwhelm you?
Ellie: Honestly, no. I didn't know much about that storyline because I thought it would be forgotten after one episode. However, with how it ended in the episode, it just felt like an unnecessary storyline from the beginning, so it was a waste of time.
Haley: It was similar to how the same storyline with Addison on Private Practice played out. What was the point of recycling that material?

After the success of One Chicago, a franchise co-produced by Wolf Entertainment and NBCUniversal that began with the firefighting procedural Chicago Fire and expanded into several spinoffs, ABC also decided to try its hand at franchising.
In partnership with Shondaland, the network turned Grey's Anatomy into a TV franchise, first with the spinoff Private Practice, also a medical drama, and then with the action-drama Station 19, which, like Chicago Fire, follows the employees of a fictional fire station as they navigate their personal and professional lives. The only difference is that the action moves from Chicago to Seattle, and the plot is much more action-packed and thrilling.
And so, Station 19 has been coming to the small screens of ABC viewers for six full years now. In addition, Season 7, as announced last December, is the final one, so we don't have many episodes left. At the same time, of course,...

The brash hospital show ER burst onto television screens in 1994 as part of NBC's famed Thursday night lineup and changed the landscape of medical dramas forever -- or at least that's how it seems a few decades on, since the genre arguably hasn't changed much.
What was it about ER that made it such a hit back then, and how did it alter the structure of medical dramas to such an extent that we can see the ripple effect even now?
ER had a gritty, realistic feel that was vastly different than other medical shows of that era and was a perfect storm of dynamic camera work, overlapping storylines, and innovative casting.
The show was shot on 35mm film and seemed more like "real life" than a perfectly lit videotaped sitcom. ER also pioneered the use of Steadicams and long tracking shots outside of movie sets.

Another week, another traumatic episode of a Shonda Rhimes show that centers around a vulnerable group.
On Station 19 Season 7 Episode 3, the firehouse fam attends a Pride parade to celebrate Seattle's LGBTQ+ community. For a full recap and review, check out TV Fanatic Jasmine Blu's expert take on True Colors!
During the Pride parade, a car backfires, the sound is mistaken for a gunshot, and chaos erupts. As painful as it is, this is an entirely predictable series of events because Shondaland loves to give marginalized communities a tragedy to rally around.
Don't get us wrong. We love this universe. Everything Shonda Rhimes touches turns to gold.
But we'd be remiss if we ignored the fact that sometimes it's hard to stomach some of the painful storylines vulnerable communities have to endure in the worlds she builds.
Looking back on the history of Shonda's television empire, it's clear that this isn't a new phenomenon.

Fans can stream seasons 1-19, including the upcoming 20th, of ‘Grey’s’ with a Hulu subscription, but what about shows like “Private Practice” and “Scandal”?

To celebrate the news, The Streamable has compiled a list of all of the other Shonda Rhimes titles that fans can stream on various subscription video services.

Fox and Fremantle have tapped Lara Olsen (“Spinning Out”) to serve as showrunner for the new “Baywatch,” which was originally created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann. Starring David Hasselhoff, “Baywatch” originally ran from 1989 to 1999 and then was retooled as “Baywatch: Hawaii” from 1999 to 2001.

it has been almost 2-decades since Shonda Rhimes’ medical soap opera Grey’s Anatomy debuted, which remains one of the most successful and longest-running TV shows to date. With the 20th season on the horizon, which is set to be its shortest yet, following the SAG-AFTRA and Writers strike last year, ABC executive touched on the future of the IP after the forthcoming season..
Throughout its long run, the acclaimed medical drama has witnessed three separate spin-offs, including Station 19, which is set to receive a 7th season. And per Craig Erwich, who oversees ABC, there’s hope that Grey’s Anatomy will likely witness more spin-offs.

ABC is checking out of Station 19.
The Disney-owned broadcast network on Friday revealed that the upcoming seventh season of the firefighter-focused spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy will be its last.
“For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda [Rhimes] and Betsy [Beers’] incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “With Zoanne [Clack] and Peter [Paige] at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”
The news comes as Station 19 will return for season seven with new showrunners Clack and Paige. The duo took over for Krista Vernoff, who stepped down as showrunner from both Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy after last season. Richard Roundtree, who became known as “the first Black action hero” for his portrayal of detective John Shaft in five films, has died at the age of 81 following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Richard’s work and career served as a turning point for African American leading men in film,” Roundtree’s manager Patrick McMinn said in his statement confirming the actor’s death. “The impact he had on the industry cannot be overstated.”
Shaft followed the exploits of African American detective John Shaft. While the original screenplay called for Shaft to be white, director Gordon Parks opted to cast Roundtree, then just 28 years old, to play the titular character. The first Shaft film was released in 1971 on a budget of just $500,000. It went on to earn $12 million at the box office, and four sequel films followed.

It has been 25 years since Keri Russell graced the small screen in the iconic role of Felicity Porter.
Felicity, the J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves-produced college drama, was a critical darling of The WB, becoming a phenomenon well before "the big chop" controversy and often topping the list of young adult classics to this very day.
The series amassed 84 episodes over four seasons, and it was nominated for 38 awards, including a Golden Globe Best Actress nod for Keri Russell.
The series remains impactful, even two and a half decades later. And it's primarily due to the allure of the cast, many of whom are still going strong in their careers all these years later.
So, where is the cast of Felicity now? Check it out!

Zainab Johnson has filmed her first original comedy special.
The actress and stand-up recently taped the solo debut, Zainab Johnson: Hijabs Off, and it will start streaming on Prime Video this fall. The Oct. 24 premiere date is fortuitous for both Johnson and the streamer, as it follows the third-season premiere of her series (Upload) by only four days.
Hijabs Off finds Johnson leaning on her unique identity — namely growing up a Black Muslim woman in a Harlem house where she was one of 13 children. Johnson has been a working stand-up for years. She competed on late NBC reality show Last Comic Standing, appeared in HBO’s All Def Comedy and has performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers, in addition to her regular club work.
In addition to her series regular role on Upload, Johnson’s acting resume includes Ramy, A Black Lady Sketch Show, American Koko and Private Practice.

It's been 10 years since "Private Practice" came to an end, but we have some good news for fans of the Oceanside Wellness crew: there's a mini reunion, of sorts, headed to Freeform. "Cruel Summer" is officially returning for season two on June 5, featuring a brand new storyline and fresh cast that will reunite KaDee Strickland ("Private Practice"'s Charlotte King), Paul Adelstein (Cooper Freedman), and Griffin Gluck (Mason Warner). Verica has had a long career on television, working as an actor, director, and producer. Queen Charlotte is his latest project — a prequel series in the Bridgerton universe that tells the love story of the king and queen that reign in the show.
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes wrote every episode of the six-part series, with Verica serving as director. It’s not the first time Rhimes and Verica have collaborated, and the latter recently revealed what working on their latest project has been like.

Only a handful of writers in television history have built a bona fide empire. Few who have done so have been women or PoC. Regardless of what you think of her shows, TV royalty Shonda Rhimes deserves respect for her groundbreaking success. Rhimes' workplace dramas have biting dialogue, steamy workplace affairs, and characters fighting tooth and nail to win. There's a passionate fandom surrounding her work, which makes the viewing experience doubly exciting.
With eleven shows underneath the "Shondaland" banner, it's not a surprise that not all of them are hits. Few contemporary shows have come anywhere close to matching the success of her first project, "Grey's Anatomy," and each subsequent series, in some way, has to contend with that legacy. But Rhimes is nothing if not prolific. Her career has only gotten more expansive since that first smash hit. Since moving from ABC to signing a deal with Netflix,...

Whether you love Taye Diggs for his roles in various '90s romantic comedies and dramas like "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" or "The Best Man," or his musical endeavors on Broadway in "Rent" and "Chicago," there's no denying his successful acting career over the past two decades.
Following his breakout role in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," the actor went on to star in films and TVs shows throughout the 2000s, notably ABC's "Private Practice" from 2007 to 2013. Most recently, Diggs is reprising his role as Harper Stewart in Peacock'supcoming mini-series, "The Best Man: The Final Chapters."
Outside of his career, Diggs has maintained a private personal and romantic life. The "Brown Sugar" actor was famously married to actor and singer Idina Menzel from 2003 until their separation in 2013. Following his split from the "Let It Go" singer, Diggs dated "Selling Sunset" star Amanza Smith, and is currently linked...

“Big last day!” So squeals Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey in a promo for “Grey’s Anatomy”’s winter return episode on February 23, 2023. It will be a bittersweet moment at Seattle’s Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital when Pompeo departs the series as a regular.
After 19 seasons, she’ll still be part of the show (they’d have to rename it!) but as the actress (and producer on the series since 2017) already broke the news to fans in August, she is reducing her on-screen time on the series to eight episodes. (A typical “Grey’s” season has over 20.) Story-wise, her character is moving 3,000 miles away, to Boston, where her daughter plans to go to school and where she will work on Alzheimer’s research. Plus her house burned down. That’s a cue to try something new.
Pompeo’s character, however, is expected to be in the season finale, and will still...
