Brilliant!! I couldn't have asked for better!!!!!!!!!
rebekahlynn22220 May 2007
I wondered how in the world the writers could satisfy fans after the devastating cliffhanger in All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1. I was thrilled to find that they were more than capable of continuing the story of the Winchester brothers in a marvelous way. This episode once again calls into the raw emotions of Dean in a truly touching and brilliant performance by Jensen. It also provides a new look into what Sam feels in regards to the relationship between the two brothers (excellent acting from Jared as well. The many guest stars provided wonderful dynamics, and the episode is one that will doubtless be loved by many. It satisfies the need for closure of season 2 while keeping viewers hungry for season 3. I can't wait for more; in the mean time, I'll happily watch this episode over and over.

All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 My Summary (spoilers)
supernaturalgurl_2323 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This episode what brilliant... The work of the director Singer and the writer and creator Kripke was... totally awesome. That they bring up Dean's emotions over the loss of his little brother, the issues he had to deal. Jensen Ackles made an awesome performance, he is such an awesome actor, playing Dean the older brother that would do anything to protect his little brother... Jared Padalecki is not left behind, amazing skills on acting since he has done such a good job, when Sam kills that Jake guy... it was so cool the performance since he knows how to do changes in the character's emotions... Like when Sam asks Dean about the deal with the demon... and then he says that he would do what it takes to save Dean for a change... This episode, I KNOW, is loved by everyone I know that loves Supernatural. We know that the writers, director, actors and everyone in the set, do an brilliant job bringing us Supernatural each week with a new story and a mini movie type of episodes... we are so proud of them and I know that Season 3 will be the BEST!

Well, what can I say. As always it kept the audience guessing. I was curious how they would bring Sam back. An awesome performance from Jensen Ackles. The emotion was the best I've seen from him. I have to admit that even though I cried after part one I couldn't help crying again. I could tell that Dean was feeling grief anger and guilt all at the same time and still trying to control his emotions. All the emotions over the lose of his brother it was heart warming. Also an awesome performance from Jared Padilacki. The immediate switch in emotion was amazing. When Sam killed Jake I couldn't believe it that just didn't seem like something Sam would do.Bobby's comments to Dean about his deal with the demon had emotion it them. It was emotional to the end when Sam said he would do what ever it takes to save Dean.

The Depth of a Brother's Love
hotcountry_chick24 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
One again, Erik Kripke has wowed us with an amazing episode of Supernatural. It shows just how much Dean is willing to do whatever it takes to save his brother, even if it means sacrificing his own life. One of the predominant themes of the show is sacrifice, and Dean is willing to do just that: he thinks very little of himself, has a desire to live up to his promise to his father (protect Sammy at all costs) and has this intense love for his little brother. This proves to be a deadly combination.

The episode begins with Dean at his brother's bedside, dead after a mortal stab wound to the back. Bobby comes in, worried about his surrogate son's well being, but Dean pushes him back. Once again, Jensen Ackles (whom I believe to be an underrated actor) is brilliant. When Bobby tries to explain that he needs Dean's help, it's the end of the world, Dean yells "Then let it end!" Life is just not worth living without Sammy; and Ackles' heartbreaking yells, then soft apology afterwords, are examples of superb acting. The best piece, however, is the monologue a few scenes later. Ackles is brilliant as he grieves Sam's death, talking to him softly at first, then breaking into tears as he looses it at the end. Watching this performance the viewer is awed. This is such an honest, raw, beautiful scene; you are grieving Sammy just as Dean is, and just want to go over and comfort him, tell him that it will be OK.

This leads to the devastating decision where Dean follows in his father's footsteps: he makes a deal with a crossroads demon, his soul for Sam's life. And he only has one year. The final scene, where Dean confesses to Sam that he made the deal, is beautiful. You can see the hurt in both brothers' eyes as the truth is finally revealed. Jared Padalecki is also wonderful in this episode. His pain as he learns of his brother's sacrifice is genuine, as is his desire to do whatever it takes to save him.

AHBL is one of the best season finale's this show has ever produced. Of course, the episode was not completely full of "chick flick moments", and the final showdwown (complete with surprise visit) was excellent. This episode is what makes me continue to watch, even though season 7 has not been my favorite.

one of the BEST episodes of this series!!!

Warning: Spoilers
AHBL 2 was so heartbreaking, the beginning when Dean is talking to dead Sam was so emotional. Jensen's performance throughout the series has been just amazing, as was Jared's, and i think that they have definitely upped the game. at the end of AHBL 1 i didn't think it could get TOO much more sad.. but when Dean made that 'deal' (i wont say what it is) i was almost screaming at the TV.

again supernatural has kept me hooked throughout the season.. how I'm going to live through the summer w/o any new episodes is beyond me... but i cant wait until season 3 and where they are going to go with it, because i have my ideas.

We got work to do.

Warning: Spoilers
Dean, The older brother, The boy who lost his Mom in a very young age, The child who never had any normal childhood, The young man who had to live with the guilt of knowing that his father had died for him, The low self esteem , self destructive, reckless, heroic personality, The one whose only job, whose all life revolved in parenting and protecting his younger brother. Dean; who spent his life saving peoples lives, trying to make his daddy proud, trying to save Sammy from his gloomy destiny, sacrificing everything along the way, Suddenly found himself alone in the world. He lost everyone and was supposed to go on with his life. Dean who knew that there is a way he can bring his brother back (his son back), couldn't just turn his back from it and keep on with his life. Dean had to make the sacrifice. Though knowing this is not the right thing to do, knowing that his daddy's same choice caused himself pain in the past, knowing that this means he is gonna die himself, he ignored every thing because simply he couldn't live alone in the world, because he couldn't take the loss. He had to bring Sammy back, because beside all the previous reasons, he was convinced that he shouldn't be alive in the first place.

The writers of Supernatural gave us yet another amazing finale, providing us with some answers and throwing a bunch more. They had the courage to close the chapter on The Yellow Eyed Daemon story line, the most dangerous villain to the Winchester boys for the past two seasons,Leaving us on edge wondering what's next on the show?

Jensen Ackles amazed us with one of his best performances on the show. His heartbreaking speech to Sam's lifeless body and his guilt in his eyes facing bobby with what he had done, really succeeded in bringing Dean's pain to the surface and show him as vulnerable as he could be.

Jim Beaver also delivered a heart warming performance as the boys surrogate father, Trying to take care of Dean after Sam died, angry with him for making the deal with some fatherly spirit in the air.

Jared Padalecki succeeded to show us the dark side of Sam, Raising the important question on whether Sam's innocence had died with him? and left you to wonder is it really our Sam? or as the Daemon referred that he was something else? and with that the first spike of doubt found its way between the brothers and took the relationship between them into a whole new direction.

But, The biggest treat on this episode was bringing Jeffrey Dean Morgan back, and I wished he had more to do. However the silent conversation between the three Winchester boys was brilliant, any other thing would have been too cheesy. But I wonder where is John supposed be now? Is he in Heaven or is he back in Hell?

I'm also glad they didn't kill off Ellen, She was my favourite female character on the show and she served her role right as the boys' motherly figure.

You sure have to watch this one, and I promise you, you will be left carving to see what is next for the boys, It sure left me wondering.

So, What's next for the Winchester boys? What will happen to the daemon army now it has no leader? What's their end game? What kind of evil will rise next? Will Sam turn evil? And above all, Will he manage to save Dean? I guess we just have to wait and see.

The Gate of Hell
claudio_carvalho24 July 2008
Dean goes to the crossroad in Greenwood, Mississippi. and summons the demon for a deal to save Sam. Then the Winchester brothers meet Bobby and Ellen arrives, telling how luck she was surviving to the fire in the Roadhouse, and she delivers the documents Ash left in the safe. They find that there is a huge demon trap in the Wyoming built by Simon Colt. Meanwhile the Yellow-Eyed Demon gives the colt to Jake and forces him to open the protected gate of hell to unleash an army of demons.

The last episode of the Second Season of "Supernatural" gives an excellent conclusion to the plot. Dean and Sam will certainly face the demons released from hell in the Third Season which I am anxiously waiting to be released on DVD. My vote is nine.

The best finale of the first 5 (and greatest) seasons
oihanep3 April 2022
Everything about this two part finale was all done to perfection. The writing, acting, directing, etc. Everyone behind the scenes really pulled through and delivered an amazing episode of television.

One of the best
urielag28 December 2021
This is, without a doubt, one of the best episodes of the entire series. This is a controversial opinion but I don't think any other season of this show was as consistent as the second and for it to end with such a strong finale is just icing on the cake.

Such a low opinion of yourself
shwetafabm29 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ok... So Dean does something stupid, i think it fits the characterization atleast. I do like the emotional bits, i don't think it was necessarily drawn out considering well first time Sam died. It was fun to watch. Also my big problem is this Colt guy, made a gun so it is wholly possible to make another, they needed to figure out how, ofcourse then they find knife galore in the subsequent seasons.

Season 2 view Focused more on the main storyline and gave solid standalone eps. Its a 9.5/10 for me 8.8/10 overall but that little more for the overarching relationship of the brothers and this season being so supernatural, the show really found itself and expanded the universe and plot. My fave funny was the prison one, tall tales and the night shifter and serious one was bloodlust. They introduced the world of hunters which was cool. The demon thing ehh not so much. Psychics were great too. Plotlines were simple 1. What happened to dad 2. Deans guilt 3. The psychics 4. Dean's deal All good and emotional.

Great season finale
hnt_dnl5 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This Season 2 finale feels like it's going to end up being a Top 10 episode of the show for me. I notice that a lot of season finales get overrated just for being finales, but this one feels properly rated. The acting in this episode was top notch, especially in that incredible Dean-Bobby scene in the junkyard talking about Dean's sacrifice to save Sam, as well as the heartfelt Dean-Sam scene (is there any other kind?) in the end. The standout of this episode was Fredric Lehne as the infamous yellow-eyed demon who murdered Mary Winchester and Sam's girlfriend Jess. Lehne's line delivery was laced with nonstop wit and perfect comic timing. The climactic battle at the demon's vault actually looked cool for a mid-2000s special effects sequence. The episode also sets up the plot for future seasons of the show. It will be hard to top this one.

Disappointed
mm-399 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Disappointed! I hate asking a question and only get more questions as answers! I had a university professor who did this and drove me crazy. What is the deal with the yellow eyed demon or the demons plans for Sam the viewer never knows. Disappointing and frustrating for myself to watch a entire season with such a whimper of a climax. Dean selling out never, I found that plot twist so out of line with the character development of Dean in the last 2 seasons. The railroad tracks, and the crypt are little too over the top. I like the part with the dad, but the rest is too much. Maybe there should have been 3 parts too this. If there is with next season I will re-write my review. 6 out of 10

Losers
Johnny_West5 August 2023
So Jake is standing at the gates of hell, about to unlock those gates. Sam, Dean, Bobby, and Ellen are standing there with their guns pointed at him, knowing he is demonic, yet none of the morons pulls the trigger?

Jake flashes his yellow eyes at Ellen, and tells her to shoot herself, and in those ten seconds still nobody shoots Jake? So as Jake is standing there talking about how great it is to be a demonic critter, still nobody shoots him? When Jake tells Sam, Dean, and Bobby to lower their guns, still nobody shoots Jake, and the dummies lower their guns???

Then the four moronic heroes just stand there and watch Jake open the gates of hell. They finally act by wrestling the gun from Ellen, and shooting Jake.

They should have shot Jake when they first saw him. They knew he was there for demonic reasons. Or they should have shot Jake as soon as he flashed his eyes at Ellen. Obviously if they had put ten bullets into his brain, the hypnotic mojo on Ellen would have been over.

The dorks let the "yellow-eyes" demon win thanks to thier own sheer stupidity. This was a theme of numerous episodes and story-arcs, where the Winchesters were often outsmarted by any number of evil entities that were better prepared than the "hunters."

Anticlimactic but wonderful beginning
CubsandCulture17 September 2019
The climax of the season 2-the first 2 seasons really- ends up being marred by technical issues. A key shot is spliced together from 3 different takes. Unfortunately, the more times I see this the seams become more obvious. It robs a key moment of the mythos of a lot of power. This might bother me less if the writing was better as well. The show never did properly developed either the roadhouse storyline and more importantly the psychic kids storyline. It is easy enough to ignore overall but this episode is centered on both, in a way, and it is clunky and uninspired. If it weren't for the strong set-up for season 3 and the perfect way that the writer's deal with the events of the previous episode, i.e. Dean's reaction, I would be even less kind on this mess.

Season 2:

A much stronger season than season 1, this one still has a clunky start and a rushed ending. Much of the problems stem from the psychic kids never really getting their due. Some of the notions present in this season never get developed at all-i.e. other generations of psychic kids. But apart from that every episode is much more surefooted and the OPS is up for the season by a lot. The standalones are bolder and the mythos episodes are much less exposition dumps.

Average episode score: 8.318, season score: 8

Top 3: 1. What Is and What Should Never Be 2. Tall Tales 3. Nightshifter

Bottom 3: 22. Hunted, 21. No Exit 20. Everybody Loves a Clown.

"We got work to do."
bensonmum231 July 2009
In my opinion, Supernatural is easily one of the very best shows currently on television. I only recently discovered the show, but I've had an absolute blast catching-up on the first two seasons and I'm looking forward to starting the third. But for the finale of Season 2, "All Hell Breaks Loose: Part 2", what a real letdown! After a very promising beginning in Part 1, Part 2 generally fails to deliver on most every level. You know, I get that Dean and Sam are brothers; and I get that there is a familial connection and a bond between them; and I understand they've lost the rest of their family; but do you have to go on and on with the forced sentimentality. The episode features a culmination of a year long story arc and sees Sam and Dean face off against their most bitter nemesis. Yet, almost half the episode features either Sam or Dean emoting about some BS or another. It bored the pants off me. The final showdown in the graveyard is pretty much a big nothing. It's over before it ever gets started. In the case of "All Hell Breaks Loose: Part 2", the build-up is far better than the final climax. As much as I love the show, I can't give this one any more than a generous 5/10.

One thing that has always bugged me about Supernatural is Sam and Dean's ability to travel great distances in what seems like no time at all. There's no better example than Dean's trip to the Crossroads in this episode. If I remember correctly, the Crossroads is in Mississippi. The graveyard in the episode is in Wyoming. Yet somehow Dean seems to make the trip in the blink of an eye. Have you ever driven from Mississippi to Wyoming? Takes a heck of a lot longer than what's portrayed here.
