- Don finds himself negotiating with a hit man to find an assemblyman's son, and Larry has difficulty adjusting to terra firma.
- Dr. Larry Flienhart literally returns to Earth after four months on the International Space Station, discovering through long chats with Charlie that he has a long way to get his physical and metaphysical feet back on terra firma after his voyage of discovery turns into one of self-discovery. Meanwhile, the brothers use math analysis to probe into the mind of a notorious hit man, awaiting execution in San Quentin, who offers to solve a murder he says he committed during a kidnapping -- and find out why his story has a big hole in it.—Peter Harris
- The gang gathers to watch Larry landing in the space shuttle.
Don visits a man on Death Row, "Pony" Funez, who wants to trade the location of five bodies for a chance to see his daughter outside the prison. He gives them the first one as a token of good faith, then offers the location of Congressman Randal Amato's son, who had been killed years ago.
Charlie does an analysis to determine the likelihood of Funez communicating with the outside world and using the trade as a chance to escape. He concludes it's unlikely. Funez's wife doesn't want him to see his daughter though.
They walk Funez down the prison hallway and out to a bus, where he is transported under heavy guard to the FBI. Charlie suggests applying the Prisoner's Dilemma Tit for Tat strategy. Funez explains that he killed Amato's son by painlessly snapping his neck as the boy looked up at the full moon. When the FBI investigates the location, however, they find an adult body instead.
Charlie reminds Don to defect rather than cooperate since the man lied to him, so Don confronts Funez about the body. Funez only suggests digging deeper. They identify the body as a former mob boss named Munoz. No more bodies were found, but Funez passes a lie detector test.
Larry returns but is in no mood for parties. He says he's not ready to be back on Earth. He experienced transcendence on the space station and doesn't want to lose that.
Funez gives the location of another body. They arrest Berelli, a current gang leader, for the murder of Munoz.
Don again angrily confronts Funez. Charlie suggests a second cooperation in hopes of getting a response. Don gives Funez his daughter's picture but Funez can't or won't give them any new information.
Sinclair and Alvin Brickle go to talk to the ex-wife, but on the way they get into a car chase and gunfight.
Larry suggests a Frequency MRI for more precise lie detection. Funez sticks to his story and the FMRI shows that he is not lying. Then Charlie notices that on the night of the killing there was no moon, so he couldn't have shown it to the boy. He's constructed a false memory for himself, repressing the memory of being told to look at the moon himself during the murder of Munoz. In actuality, Amato's son was terrified and Funez couldn't bring himself to kill him. Berelli had to shoot the boy instead. It was raining at the time and the body was placed in a drainpipe.
When the boy's body is found, Don keeps his promise and speaks to Funez's ex-wife. She relents and Funez's daughter is allowed to visit him.
Larry, still uncomfortable back on earth, decides to stay in a monastery for a while.
