Breaking the slime barrier

Warning: Spoilers
As the title makes very clear, here we got the "Kids' Choice Awards" from the year 2007, so this one is moving closer to its 15th anniversary already and back then it was the 20th edition of the event, so unless there were years without a celebration, it all began in 1986. Boy, is that long ago. Anyway, so is this one here you can say really. It features Zack and Cody haha when they were still young boys and their show was going strong. And Ben Stiller wanted to be one of them haha. This show ran for 80 minutes approximately and the host that year was Justin Timberlake, so a really big name, and as a consequence it is also not too surprising that the winners and presenters included people that are also really famous and not only young wannabe celebrities from Nickelodeon. First of all, I want to say though that I liked how they kept it an awards show. This very basic idea is something many awards shows struggle with, many awards shows that take itself really seriously, such as the Grammys for example, as they have basically turned into 75% concert. And that is simply a failure by definition then. It's alright maybe for the people there, but when I choose to watch an awards show, I don't want one live song after the next. There are still two performances in here, namely Maroon 5 and Gwen Stefani and looking at how weak both of them were, it's really fine they kept it at that. Maybe even the weakest moments of the show, entirely forgettable. Timberlake's stage number earlier was certainly better, not just the tune, but also that it featured Tucker, Chan and Mandy Moore getting slimed. I'd love to slime the latter too I won't deny still. Big fan back then in 2007 and still today. So I am especially happy she had all this success with her show recently and also that she came out later on again to present an award. And did so with Shia LaBeaouf who I also respect really as an actor now. Jessica Alba sadly has not such success with a TV show or anything, but nice to see her as well here. I am glad she is happy with her husband and kids now, even without big success in the movie industry. Okay, back to this one we got here. I also liked the winners. Dakota Fanning, Adam Sandler, Happy Feet and Pirates of the Caribbean are not the worst choices, even if I still think Orlando Bloom is a weak actor, but well Depp wasn't around that night it seems. Anyway, thse seem to love Adam Sandler really. Okay with the winners it is always a bit weird here because honestly when you see somebody in the audience, you can almost be sure that they get an award later on, like Queen Latifah. But she is alright too. However, please come on. If you have Shaq win a category, then please feature him more prominently. He is amazing and so much fun and I am not just saying that because of what happened with Kobe recently.

Okay, as for the show itself, I like that they kept the number of categories relatively low and did not include any stupid categories like the Teen Choice Awards do on a regular basis. Also the slime aspect here was solid. Okay the bungee jumping thingey as probably really only interesting to those who saw it live, but still. Makes me wonder if there is anything we havrn't got a record for. I mean honestly, it's not as if people are jumping into a gigantic bucket of slime every day. Timberlake of course acted cocky early on like hosts of this show regularly do saying they are unslimable etc., but it was obvious he would get his fair share too and he does quicker than expected. That is because at the very end they have another spectacular thingey coming up, which for me was not really the highlight the way they promoted it early on. What was with that elephant haha so awkward, but when the two in the end unleashed on the audience eventually it still seemed like a lot of fun. It was Vince Vaughn right? I though initially it was the one from Family Guy, MacFarlane or what his name is (never can remember if with an "a" early on or not. Okay what else? Wait Miley Cyrus won an award and I did not see her. Now that is almost a negative deal-breaker. Emma Roberts and a few others ere also famous back then already I see. I mean people who were really young back then and are still fairly young, around the age of 30 max. I wonder what the people we see in the audience no think of all this haha as they are twice as old as they were back then. Must be fun to find your slimy self on an old recording here. It's nice at least some of these can still be found online. And Spider-Man with Maguire was still going on back then ah I liked these so much more than the take on Spidey ith Garfield or even worse the clown we have now. Kinda ruins my fav superhero. Anyway, Carell was there with Maguire, Will Ferrell (as much fun as always, also with Napoleon Dynamite) and Ben Stiller I mentioned earlier already, all three of them still really funny now in their 50s. And they were back then. I guess this is all then. It was a good awards, there weren't many moments when it hit rock-bottom (but the burping pleeeeease nobody under the age of 10 can appreciate that), so it's a thumbs-up for me. Go see it if you care about (old) awards shows. Oh and I almost forgot: I also liked these inclusions of giant objects including the winners' names, such as a simple envelope, a hot dog or even the biiiig booger haha. That was so awkward and funny in a disgusting way, clearly above fart humor, folks. Bring it back for next year.
