A Nice Blend of Humor and Continuing Story lines
loudprincess24 July 2007
For me, The Closer is one of the better offerings on cable TV. This episode, while not my favorite thus far, demonstrates the slick writing and ease of transition that a lot of series don't attempt to do.

Unlike the Law & Order series or many of the other detective crime shows, there's a consistent storyline to follow, for those who watch week after week, but fresh cases that don't require a lot of exposition. I appreciate this approach, since a LOT of shows beat the viewer over the head with minutiae while trying to get the plot moving.

The realism of the show may be questionable at times, but that point can be forgiven since the humorous and clever twists make the show worthwhile.

WMD Training, Just Winding Down
biorngm17 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The government training Gabriel researched to provide the division extra funds through the Fed and not have to lose a member is underway while Brenda and Provenza solve a murder. Pope never told Brenda of the WMD training thus making her mad at being short of help solving the killing in a parking lot. We are dealing with murder, i.e. garroting a man while Brenda's crew plays roles to get certified by the government. The female guest-star plays an exceptional part of a trophy-wife having an affair with her fitness instructor until he is mistakenly killed by a man, she paid to do the job on her unsuspecting husband. Aside from not feeling well, Brenda has to deal with the squirrely parking attendant witnessing the murder, but he is too frightened to admit what he saw until Brenda can secure a safe place for him to view the killer. The climax occurs in the murder room with the wife, the man she hired and the parking attendant all meeting while the WMD training is drawing to a finish.

Another well-written story involving guest-cast members acting superbly; a tapestry of justice. An enjoyable watch for all as the plot intertwines with Brenda solving the case once she determines dates and respective days were mixed up for the hired-man to take out what he thought was the husband. Humor is interlaced with the crime story in which the viewer can enjoy throughout the entire episode.

I'm confused!

Does anyone wonder why this series genre does NOT include comedy or maybe even farce? If you watched this far into the 7 year series run, you maybe raised this question. I actually find the shows entertaining and often comical; not in a Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello concept, but close!

Rich with humor & Terrific Script

Warning: Spoilers
First, I better be truthful that I am fairly biased in favor of cop shows. I think it goes way back to Columbo (A show which also combined humor with the tragedy of crime) The Closer reruns I am catching on Start TV have been up in the caliber of Columbo. One could posit that the main character, comely Chief Brenda Johnson, a southern 'Steel Magnolia', IS a sort of reincarnation of gentle, but determined, detective Columbo.

But I digress. This is an excellent cop show in general and the episode 'Dumb Luck' S-3, E-6, was outstanding.

What was so excellent about this episode of The Closer, Dumb Luck, is that the crew took it to a higher degree of chaos, humor, and exceptional characterizations - then added to that was a mystery illness that Chief Brenda was suffering from, and finally there was still The Who-done-it to solve. This episode had it all.

It gave us viewers a magnificent hour of cop show enjoyment. I want to personally thank the total team: Writers, editor, director, actors, camera crew (particularly in the WMD training scenes) sound men, and all the other crew us average Joe's are never even aware of. You all hit it out of the park on this episode. Good Job.
