phylliscallaway6 November 2019
I do like this show but agree with other peeps. why tear out all that stuff. such a waste. The worse thing about the show is Allison Victoria. I stopped watching windy city rehab cuz of her. I will watch this show til the end but if she wins, karma is not working.

Alison ruins this show

I used to watch Windy City Rehab. Never again. Alison takes obnoxious and arrogant to a whole new unwatchable level.

Would have liked to see the actual selling prize of all the houses.
kikkula17 April 2021
I'm writing about the second season. Would been fair to see the actual final prizes that all the houses were sold for. Buying a house is driven largely on emotion and houses with a more narrow target audience can actually push the prize much higher because of the lack of options on the market for that audience. Would have been a fair finale that way. At the moment second season teaches us that design and function is overrated and you should buy a house marked down on a paper.

The cast and concept was great on second season. What was not so great was the ever so loud host and the editing made me feel like it was done under drugs. Basically the grew and the cast didn't match. Also what's up with people wearing same clothes for months. I hope it was because of editing reasons not because they think we as an audience can't recognize people in new clothes.

It's a very good show and I like it very much, the thing is I hate how cocky some of the girls can get.

I think the other reviewers have excellent points. However, I haven't had so much fun after a long day of work than watching back-to-back episodes of this show last night. The designers all do a fantastic job with their houses and I can't wait to see what comes next!

Is the shows system faulty?
kikkula24 April 2021
The show winner is decided by calculating who added the most value to their property. If I'm right they look at how much money was put in and how much they think(!?) it would sell and then they'll calculate the difference. So anyone who has won the shows episode challenge(s) is automatically in disadvantage because they are given as a prize an extra money they now have to put into their houses and that extra money makes their 'profit' smaller. And because every estate has their market max purchase limit, it puts them all in disadvantage, because all the houses are in the same price range. The math on this show just doesn't work.

We need Rock the Block 2
dkt-1918810 May 2020
This show reinforced my love of Leann Ford and how she combines nature and minimalism in her designs while showing her beautiful personality. It also reinforces my lack of respect for the egotistical Alison Victoria. Mina and Jasmine are so adorable and their designs are always fresh and fun.

Well David Bromstead could probably join the circus now. Show was OK but can't watch episodes with him in it. Used to be a good looking guy.

Wish there were more Episodes
eddiecation5 November 2019
Rock the Block brings four Interior Designers together to customize a family-style home in a cookie-cutter neighborhood (Santa Clarita, CA). Allison Victoria (Windy City Flip), Jasmine Roth (Hidden Potential), Leanne Fords (Restored by the Fords), and Mina Starsiak Hawk (Good Bones) are all HGTV alums. The goal is to add value to each home and the person with the highest appraisal wins. Jasmine and Mina's design styles suit this show very well because their own shows focus on flipping houses in suburban neighborhoods. Allison's style is very sophisticated with vintage and modern elements. Leanne's design style is clean (white on white) minimalist with showstopper features. I truly love and appreciate each design style. That being said, I do not think every designer researched Santa Clarita, CA. This town is the definition of suburbia and sits about an hour and half from Los Angeles. In the 3 episodes that have aired, here's my takeaway. I feel like Mina is playing it safe. I know she's taking the buyer (a family) into consideration, but her design style isn't really standing out from the other designers. Leanne, on the other hand, is designing for one particular buyer and unfortunately, her design is more Palm Springs than Santa Clarita. Allison, as the saying goes "You can take the girl out of the 'city', but you can't take the 'city' out of the girl". Jasmine is from SoCal, so she may have the upper hand in knowing what buyers are looking for in a home. All the women have fantastic design styles and I cannot wait to see who wins.

Lyndsay and Leslie's chaotic eclectic mess was an eyesore of mishmash styles, as if an IKEA store had exploded onto the property.
tjhpz-1001017 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
From the onset, it was evident that Lyndsay and Leslie's design choices were questionable at best. Their home resembled a chaotic mishmash of styles, as if an IKEA store had exploded onto the property. The result was an eyesore, a cacophony of clashing colors, patterns, and textures that could only be described as a childish eclectic mess.

Rock the Block season 5 culminated in what can only be described as a bewildering turn of events with Lyndsay and Leslie taking home the winning title. However, one can't help but question the judgment criteria and the taste level that led to this decision.

While the other three teams demonstrated coherence, sophistication, and thoughtful design throughout the competition, Lyndsay and Leslie's efforts seemed amateurish and lacking in finesse. From the unnecessary inclusion of multiple laundry spaces to the bizarre placement of a dog bath station far from the home's entrance, their decisions reeked of poor planning and tastelessness.

Despite the commendable additions such as solar panels and a sauna, these were overshadowed by the overwhelming visual chaos present in every corner of their home. It's baffling how the judges could overlook such glaring flaws and instead focus on superficial elements like bold color choices.

In contrast, the other teams presented homes that exuded elegance, functionality, and market appeal. From Keith and Evan's attention to detail in their ceiling treatment to Page and Mitch's clever incorporation of bi-fold windows, each home showcased thoughtful design elements aimed at enhancing both aesthetic and practical value.

Bryan and Sarah, while not without their own flaws, at least demonstrated a level of sophistication and understanding of their target market. Their zen garden feature and well-appointed living spaces reflected a keen awareness of what appeals to discerning homebuyers.

Ultimately, the decision to crown Lyndsay and Leslie as the winners of "Rock the Block" season 5 raises serious questions about the credibility of the judging process. By rewarding style over substance, the show undermines the efforts of the other teams who demonstrated superior design prowess and market savvy. In the end, it's a disappointing outcome that does a disservice to the integrity of the competition.

Disappointed

Initially I looked forward to seeing this show because I really like watching MIna, Leann and Jasmine. However, Allison Victoria makes watching (listening) to it nearly impossible. She is so full of herself. Every time she starts to talk I mute the sound.

Give it a chance!!!
katbeal3330 March 2021
I don't know why all the Alison hate but really it is a great show with alot of great designers! I really enjoyed the competition between the teams and if you are really watching they are reusing the materials and not just throwing them away as some are saying. Really fun with great designers and definitely worth the watch!

Wished Allison wasn't on this show

I love all the other designers, but can't stand the egotistical Allison. She's so in love with herself, lots of "I's and me's". Her outdoor space sucked.

I'm assigning a 10, BUT...
jeersNcheers4 April 2023
I usually love this show; what more can you ask for than 4 reveals in an hour episode. But I have got to speak up about the over usage of the color black on HGTV! Two of the four houses this season on R the B have primarily black exteriors. LOL, the judges downgrade one house for being black, then praise another house for being black. Americans are not painting their houses black. It's dark and bleak and ugly, and is a blight on the entire neighborhood! Quit trying to shove black paint down our throats! It's a fad, and it is not going to last. Then you have to repaint a black building, which is not easy.

PS Not a fan of large swaths of black in the interior either.

And Ty needs to stop shouting; makes me cringe.

Fantastic construction and design ideas! 🏡
Somesweetkid21 April 2022
What a fun show with talented pros competing and the charming Ty Pennington serving as its host. Each designer (Season 1) and designer couple (Seasons 2 & 3) brought unique perspectives and ideas to their designs. Whether you are into building/remodeling, buying/selling, or interior design, this show offers SO many fresh ideas. I liked the designers in Season 1, but especially enjoyed the couples participating in Seasons 2 and 3 (with the multi-talented Alison Victoria competing in both Seasons 1 & 2 with the "hot" Mike Holmes joining her in 2.) The judges who decided the winners of the challenges were wonderful as well. I wish the series could air year round! 😊

Resources wasted!!!
deboir00-731-9492665 November 2019
Why were the designers not given bare bones houses.... instead of brand new homes (minus flooring) that would be ready to move in to!?? If there is a season 2.... give them houses with NO interior fixtures.... stop the waste!

Adding value.
Dukesquay1 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I loved the idea behind season one.

Take four successful female designers, give each of them an identical house & identical budget, and ask them to redesign the interior & garden in order to maximise the resale value of their property. Next bring in experts to assess the changes made to individual rooms (bathroom, kitchen etc) and then give an overall value to the finished houses.

Some of the experts were rival designers from other home renovation shows and it was interesting to see them inspecting the work of others rather than having their own work scrutinized. However, being judged by their own peer group must have been tough on the four women taking part in the challenge.

It was hard to predict the outcome but, in the end, I thought the result was fair.

In addition to producing good designs, it was gratifying to see the two designers with the most engaging personalities come first and second. I was so glad the arrogant one was not in the top two.

I'm looking forward to season two.

wut??
joemidtwn27 October 2019
Could be a good show but Allison Victoria makes it practically unwatchable. She needs to stop telling us how she's going to win and just stfu and let her design do the talking. PS - no one cares about your $7000 toilet. Leanne Ford on the other hand - wacky and a little flakey but comes across as honest, genuine, and really likable. She has an idea of who her client is and she wants to please that client. Also, they should move this from Monday night to Tuesday night because every time Allison opens her mouth I immediately think "See you next Tuesday, Allison."

Curious
markawyman15 March 2022
I'm watching Season 3, Episode 3... They are doing the main suite / main bathroom..

When Leslie Davis and Lyndsay Lamb were talking about the bed placement, in the computer image they showed the bed between the windows with a 'Night Table' on either side of the bed...

But, they said that a dresser goes on either side... Do they NOT know the difference between a 1 drawer night table with storage under and a dresser?

They call themselves professionals...

Great show with super designers and awesome finishes. Enjoyed watching every episode, especially the final episode. The winners deserved it based on functionality and overall design. But Alison's bathroom was another level!!

disgusted at the waste in this show
corieMW27 October 2019
It's one thing to watch HGTV stars build from scratch or tear out old/damaged/inefficient materials. To watch them tear out brand spanking new drywall, insulation, lumber, etc that will end up in landfills is just disgusting. The builder had installed prefab tins and showers. There was a scene where instead of salvaging these pristine, never even used items (for Habitat for Humaniru Restore, etc), the designer just attacked it with a reciprocating saw and a sledgehammer. And that was o my what they showed! HGTV never addresses what happens to all the cabinets, vanities, countertops, etc. I don't understand why HGTV didn't do this idea with houses that were less finished. In addition, the show is set on Southern California where there are currently huge fires ravishing the area due to drought. You can see in the background of the show that the area of the subdivision looks dry and desert-y, not green at all. Another designer installs shower heads that her contractor informs her use 13 gallons of water per minute. And she says I don't care, I'm keeping them. All in all, the show seems like a completely tone deaf and disgusting representation of the waste and environmental impacts of renovation culture.

Get Allison off HGTV or direct her more closely!
carolarugg17 May 2023
David, the show is delightful except for Allison. She is as full of herself in Rock the Block as she is in Windy City. An example of her arrogance is when she stated in a Rock episode that her competition was two other designers but she omitted Jasmine. I was elated, thrilled, beyond joyous when Jasmine won the competition!!!

It's unbearable to listen to her so I no longer watch when she participates. Everyone works so hard but watching her is like listening to fingernails on chalkboards. Someone needs to have a serious conversation with her bc she's very talented and her designs are beautiful. How about duct tape across her mouth? It comes in pretty colors!

shocked at the waste...
gmfreeman23 October 2019
By 15 minutes into this series, I was shocked by the total waste of materials taken from these houses. Brand new tubs, cabinets, etc. were ripped out and taken to the dump! And wasted space! Leanne tore out a wall to make this gigantic bathroom....does a bathroom really have to be the size of a living room? And Mina apparently hasn't been watching the news, and doesn't know California is going through an horrific drought, so she puts in a shower with four jets, which the inspector told her to take them out, but she left them in anyway.(each uses 13 gallons a minute). There was the usual tough talk from them all, which gets a little old after a while. We'll keep watching (we really like Jasmine), but it's really just the same-old-same-old.
