After a huge info dump at August’s DC FanDome that revealed exactly who the entire ensemble cast were playing, a whole host of new images and character posters, not to mention a sizzle reel that went down an absolute storm with fans, things have gone awfully quiet on James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad over the last couple of months apart from the news that John Cena’s Peacemaker is set to headline his own HBO Max spinoff.
Presumably, a lot of that has to do with production being forced to shut down as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Shooting may have initially wrapped in February, but any major comic book blockbuster always has reshoots and additional pickups planned into the schedule, and a new set photo snapped at Georgia’s DeKalb–Peachtree Airport shows several members of the cast back in action, which you can check out below.

John Cena’s Peacemaker character from upcoming movie “The Suicide Squad” is getting his own HBO Max series. James Gunn will write all eight episodes of the show’s first season.
Gunn will also direct “multiple” episodes of the “Peacemaker” series, HBO Max said on Wednesday — including the first one.
He and “The Suicide Squad” producer Peter Safran will executive produce action-comedy “Peacemaker,” which is based on the DC character and has a straight-to-series order at the WarnerMedia streaming service. Cena will co-executive produce the show, which hails from Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
“Peacemaker” is scheduled to begin production in early 2021, ahead of Gunn’s work on the next “Guardians of the Galaxy” film. Gunn is the writer and director of “The Suicide Squad,” which will be released in theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order for “Peacemaker,” a spinoff from the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film. John Cena will play the title role, reprising his role from the film. The film’s writer and director, James Gunn, will also write the series and direct multiple episodes, including the pilot.
HBO Max has ordered eight episodes of the show based on the DC Comics character, which is described as an action adventure comedy. The exact plot of the series is being kept under wraps, but it is said it will explore the origins of Peacemaker, a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. Production is slated to begin in early 2021, prior to Gunn starting work on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” “The Suicide Squad” is set to be released in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.

Wild Bunch TV-sold “Albatros,” Turner Latin America’s banner title “Amarres” and REInvent Studios’ globe-trotting “Peacemaker” will feature at a 54 series-strong Buyers Showcase, which launches today March 25 as a backbone of Series Mania’s online Digital Forum, Europe’s first big festival experiment in a virtual marketplace.
Also featuring a powerful Co-Pro Pitching lineup, packed by pedigree producers and creatives, the Digital Forum’s industry audience, such as the number of accredited distributors, still has to be confirmed.
Some high-profile titles are missing: Opener “The Luminaries,” for example, from Fremantle and Working Title, and HBO closer “Run.” That said, the Buyer’s Showcase looks set to include five of Series Mania’s original 10 main competition entries and 13 of its 15 International Panorama titles, the festival’s two main sections.
Looking to the long-haul, as it also address urgent financial fall-out from Covid-19, the industry needs festival selection more than ever.

Suicide Squad 2 is called The Suicide Squad, features James Gunn writing and directing, and will arrive in 2021.
It looks like Suicide Squad 2 is a bigger priority for Warner Bros. than we thought. After the project failed to find momentum under director Gavin O'Connor and writer Todd Stashwick, the studio brought in Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn to breathe new life into Suicide Squad 2. And it would appear he has. The sequel to the 2016 film now has a brand new title, The Suicide Squad, which would seem to indicate that they're looking to distance themselves a little from the first film. Understandable, as despite it's nearly $750 million global box office haul, it wasn't particularly beloved by critics, and appeared to be the victim of some hasty editing to counter the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice backlash, and perhaps try and capture some of the Guardians of the Galaxy quirkiness.
