I'm not a person who grows bored of games easily, but for me to put hundreds and hundreds of hours into something it has to be truly special and/or have a seemingly never ending level of content.
5yrs later I'm still actively playing Gems of War extensively and won't admit how much time has actually gone into it. Needless to say it's a lot, and I don't regret a moment of it.
Gems of War is a fantasy war game crossed with one of those gem type games where you must connect 3+ of the same color. At time of writing the game has over 600 troop types, hundreds of missions, dozens of areas, dozens of weapons and just has more to it than 99% of modern games.
Stupidly addictive with fantastic fantasy artwork, great playability and a steep learning curve its one of those games that just demands you play one more round which subsequently turns into two, three and beyond.
The game is riddled with micro transactions which is something folks have come to expect from free to play games. However all it offers is resources and nothing you can't get from simply grinding and that's refreshing.
The developers have not taken a breath, never ending updates, weekly events and new troops every Monday. This is the kind of commitment that we should be seeing from game developers instead of this insistence on just replacing it with a sequel 12 months later.
SO much fun, SO much content, SO worth your time.
The Good:
Incredible commitment from the developers
Never ending content
Large number of game modes
Very addictive
The Bad:
PVP could be better
Pop ups can get annoying
