Don't listen to the 1s and 10s
leeleejensen21 August 2020
It was a good episode, in my opinion not a letdown but after the long wait fans might have hoped for a little more. A solid lucifer episode that doesn't stand among the best but served its purpose well, the cast were stellar as usual but the plot surrounding the case was a little thin. Probably between a 6-8 depending on your preferences.

It was alright
andytiburcio21 August 2020
The first episode was alright, it wasn't bad. The action of the first episode was kind of bad but the introduction of season 5 episode 1 was pretty good.

bunch of cliches
wasp822 August 2020
I don't remember the last time I was exposed to this many cliches in only one episode. You can almost predict everything that's going to happen and everyone is giving life lessons to each other nonstop. We don't need some random dead guy giving advice to Lucifer on what to do with his life, for instance. It's like all characters speak and act as if they're all the same person with the same point of view. Nobody watches this show for life lessons! I wish they focused more on the comedy and fantasy elements and creativity, which made the show what it is especially in the first season.

What are all meaningless critiques?
KananZeynalov2 January 2021
Before I get started to Season 5, I read this place to get some background info about this season. After reading I thought, it is really terrible, but then during watching they all seemed pointless. Because episode was far beyond my expectations. Keep going guys dont listen up reviews :) 10/10

Not Just Devil , We are sad too.
Rishishinde321 August 2020
I thought season 5 will start with some fun but it started out sad just like the title suggested, writers and show is trying to set focus here which can test some patience , lets hoping future episodes bring cool fun devil .

The plot twist amazing
ashleymosqueda25 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode already had me at the edge of my seat. The way they kept switching from hell to Chloe both solving the same murder was incredible. I love how towards the end we all thought it was Lucifer that went back to earth to save Chloe but that plot twist had me pulling my hair.

NOT A GREAT START !
rgoswami-5707921 August 2020
Actors are looking exhausted and editing is not also looking good, two alternative places like hell and earth are splashed white light in screen. Cuts are not good between hell and earth. Starting didn't Impressed me hope it become good further.

What a disappointment!
peterheiberg21 August 2020
Really looked forward to the new season of Lucifer. A great show. But the season starter, was a huge disappointment.Boring plot, and poor acting. Must be the director who couldn't get the actors to perform properly.

One of the entire show poorest episodes.

Good start to the season
Kingslaay31 August 2020
It is so nice to see some high quality tv shows return in our crazy times. I thought the last season of Lucifer was steady and nothing great but this is a solid and promising start. Look forward to more episodes.

A conceptual jackpot
isabellacheng23 August 2020
I don't really recall any episode where Lucifer was helping the investigation from "below". This episode demonstrated that this could have great comedic value. But soon this plot was sidelined by Michael.

THIS SHOW..........
dollfacecrafter9 April 2021
Started out kind of meh, scooby-doo-ish, solving a crime in 20 minutes is just unrealistic and stupid. I like the other story lines , especially the tension between Chloe and Lucifer (Lucifer is the best) but he seemed to really struggle with an American accent, didn't really like the whole "fake" Lucifer thing, that was his twin brother? First we have heard of that. And what is up with Chloe's hair ? Yuck, it looks awful on her beautiful face...........I really thought it would get way better once Netflix picked it up, but it has not, not enough nudity and excitement, it is all so boring with the murders and the killers, the going back in time story was really boring. Maze and Lucifer are the best.

Mediocre season start
UPCritic21 August 2020
I had high hopes for season 5 and was utterly dissapointed with the first episode. Mediocre script and mostly mediocre acting. I really hope it gets better.

Disappointing
fahadbahannan30 August 2020
This whole season so far has been so full of cliches. Ugh.. such a disappointment... the show was once hilarious and brilliant. Now it's just another cringe. Lucifer "once LA's bad boy" is suddenly but a pathetic loser somehow??

Not the most thrilling season-opener in the history of the show
camille_bourg-114 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We can't exactly say that this is the most thrilling season-opener in the history of the show. Non-event that basically makes fall flat everything that season 4's finale built up, it arouses nothing and feels like season 5 hasn't begun. Its flaw is that it is singularly devoid of emotion: indeed, while Chloe has lost the man she loves with the certainty that he will never come back, yes, of course she busts herself at work and drinks to forget, but at no time is she seen expressing her sorrow or how much she misses Lucifer, slipping into the penthouse in the evening and crying there rolled into a ball on the bed, a shirt still impregnated with the smell of her man pressed against her, as her extreme pain at the end of season 4 let us expect it; paradoxically, it is Maze who will be the first to crack! Even on Lucifer's side, though the blues, the nostalgia, the temptation to return to Earth are present, Tom plays them with an unusual restraint, which makes this more withdrawn than really sad Lucifer a little less endearing than the open book unable to hide his emotions that we have always known until then. In addition, even if it gives us an opportunity to better understand this universe where he controls space and time according to his will and where, of course, it is the remorse of damned souls that generate their hell loops, but it is the demons that play the roles of the characters who torture the dead in the loops, Lucifer does not seem really to be pitied in hell where everything seems to be going very well. Not the nightmarish war zone previously implied. Last, and this is not the first time that we can see it but it is still true: when there is no interaction between Lucifer and Chloe, the show has a hard time working. What does work very well however is the Chloe-Maze duo, the detective and the bounty hunter understanding each other within a glance with no need to finish their sentences, infiltrating dodgy areas, fooling criminals and kicking ass after ass, Chloe also appearing much more badass than in the past. If the subplots of Linda who stuffs baby Charlie's head with knowledge because she believes him to be superhuman, Amenadiel who hunts down every delinquent he can find, or Dan who has taken to self development are dispensable, the real highlight of the episode is how Chloe's investigation on Earth and Lucifer's investigation in Hell intersect, with every place visited and suspect met by Lucifer in the virtual reality turning out to be a lead actually followed by Chloe on Earth, and every criminal the detective is forced to kill immediately landing in Hell to give the devil news of his beloved. This is how he will save her life, warned just in time to return to Earth to incapacitate the armed gang that cornered her; and the passionate kiss she greets him with as soon as her eyes fall on his tall, slim and athletic figure in a suit says it all: they love each other and are finally together. This is why, when the last image reveals that Lucifer has made the weighty but noble decision to remain in Hell to fulfil his duty, it is with a start of astonishment (or it would be if Netflix hadn't spoiled it in the trailer...) that we realize that the man whom Chloe is hugging with love is not her beloved Lucifer!
