- Two months after the destruction of both the Primatech and Pinehurst, and the death of Arthur Petrelli, the now-villainous Nathan returns with a vengeance by persuading the U.S. President and the government to round up all people with abilities for containment and disposal, leading to Claire, Ando, Peter, as well as Tracy to become fugitives from the people who were their former allies. In Japan, a powerless Hiro tries to live through the super-charger Ando as his latest partner. In New York, Peter struggles to find a life for himself as a paramedic, but finds that his cannot hide from his past. Claire learns about Nathan's and Angela's plans for interment of people with abilities and sets out to warn Matt Parkman who learns more about his abilities from the spirit of the African spiritualist Usutu. Elsewhere, Syler travels to Baltimore to locate his long-lost father and ends up being the only one who escapes from a government dragnet led by a mysterious agent known only as 'the Hunter'. Mohinder also learns that he has been targeted, and that Noah Bennett is apparently working with Nathan as well.—Anonymous

A clock radio informs us that it's 7:12 as the phone rings. Tracy, in a black party dress, answers and says hello to the governor with great familiarity. He tells her to turn on the TV. She does and sees Nathan is being interviewed about his rapid rise in the Senate and how, as chairman of the senate committee on Homeland Security, he's become quite close with the president. Tracy tells the governor that Nathan is ancient history and she hasn't spoken to him in two months. She hangs up, drops her dress and notices an open window -- all while Nathan continues to deflect questions about citizen privacy issues on TV and classified matters that pose a threat to the American people -- and goes to lock it.
The interviewer asks why Nathan, "Why now?" Nathan says it's classified. Nathan says he's devoted his life to protecting people. Armed men invade Tracy's home. She tries to freeze one but can't. On the TV the interviewer asks if Nathan's religious conversion still stands. He says yes, now more than ever. Tracy tells the men she refuses to beg for her life. A man she seems to recognize -- even though they're all wearing ski masks -- shoots her with some kind of tranquilizer gun. He pulls off the mask. It's Danko the Hunter (Zeljko Ivanek) and calls someone to say, "Tell Petrelli we got the first one."
An onscreen title over Ando's face informs us that he's in "Tokyo, Japan." Behind Hiro opens large double doors - and the words Chapter One - "A Clear and Present Danger" float in the open space. Hiro ushers Ando into an old firehouse that he announces will be their lair. Ando seems skeptical of this concept. Hiro gives Ando a spandex costume with a lightning bolt on it. Ando remains unconvinced. Hiro says he needs to hide his true identity and that children will talk forever about his crime-fighting skills...after they stop laughing at him, finishes Ando. Ando, who thinks his power stinks, says Hiro wants to live through him now that his own powers of time travel are gone. Hiro says it's Ando's destiny to be a superhero.
Ando tells Hiro to forget it. Hiro tries to change his mind with the "Ando-cycle" and unveils a sleek black motorcycle tricked out with fancy technology including password protection, which Ando is not allowed to know but Hiro hints is the name of someone important to him. And a GPS implant, which Hiro proceeds to shoot into Ando's arm suddenly. Ando protests. Hiro said he did it to himself as well and that it only hurts for an hour. Ando gets angry saying he's had it with Hiro and tells him to get himself another superhero and drives off.
In the middle of the street in New York City, Peter is tending to an accident victim as an EMT. He's trying to revive the person as his partner tells him it's no use. Peter blames himself, he wasn't fast enough, strong enough. His partner says Peter can't save everyone.
The scene flashes elsewhere in New York City where Claire sits in a fancy apartment with a bunch of college brochures laid out in front of her. Angela enters and asks if she has any favorites. Claire likes them all. Angela says it's great Claire got her GED and she deserves the exceptional education Angela's money will buy her. Claire seems weary and tells Angela she appreciates the offer of help but is unsure she can do it. Angela says that she and both of Claire's fathers believe that college is the best chance of a normal life for her. Claire says there's no hope of a normal life with Sylar still out there. Angela says that she and Claire saw PrimaTech burn down and that Sylar was identified with dental records. Claire isn't buying it and believes HRG is investigating Sylar's whereabouts on his frequent "business trips." Claire thinks she should be helping to stop it. Angela says that all of it- PrimaTech, Pinehearst, the Company- it's all over. Claire says Angela is just trying to bench her or, worse, she may believe Sylar is really gone but Claire doesn't. And she's going to do something about it herself.
In Baltimore Sylar enters a raggedy room with a turntable playing an old-timey album. It's a watch shop. The owner enters and pulls a rifle on him. Sylar asks if this man, Martin Gray, used to live in Queens and went out for smokes one day during a snow storm. The man begins to lower the rifle and asks who Sylar is. "I'm your son," he says. He adds he has some questions for him.
Back in New York City Matt Parkman is eating breakfast when Daphne speeds in. She's surprised to see him. Apparently, she's a bike messenger now but cheats and uses her speed even though she and Parkman clearly discussed that she wouldn't. He says he could use his power to work his way to the top of the police department but doesn't. That's because he's a 12 dollar an hour bodyguard, says Daphne, when he should be opening his own private detective agency for which she can provide the capital. He doesn't want to use stolen money and wonders what's wrong with living like normal people. She thinks it's boring. He'll take that over the bizarro world he's been living in since this whole thing started last year, he replies. Matt appeals to her about putting the old life behind them just as he sees his African desert friend, Usutu, appear in the apartment. Daphne doesn't see him, pecks Parkman on the mouth and agrees to normalcy.
Claire is sneaking out of Angela's as she overhears her on the phone recounting their conversation about Sylar to someone; she probably thinks it's HRG. Claire picks up the receiver and it's Nathan who is telling Angela that he wants her to keep Claire far away from the operation, so that he can take Peter and Parkman "down." Claire slams down the phone when she sees that Angela has caught her. Claire runs off. Angela tells Nathan they have a bigger problem now.
Back in the watch shop Sylar's daddy, Martin, says he's a different person now and that was a long time ago. "Maybe for you," says Sylar. Gray tells him to ask his questions. Sylar asks how he was supposed to grow into a man without a father. Gray surmises he wants an apology. Just an explanation, says Sylar. Gray says his mother was a sick, infantile woman and that it was a mistake to have a child with her. Sylar wants to start there since he's clearly not the son of a man who just fixed watches and a woman who collected snow globes. He asks who he is. Gray sits and says he was given to him by a man who needed money. He says Sylar's mom wanted a baby and couldn't have one. Gray wanted out of a loveless marriage and was too much of a coward and it seemed like the right answer. The man was Gray's brother, Samson. Martin writes down his address. Sylar determines he's telling the truth. Gray asks him to leave. Sylar briefly considers giving him the old brain pan rip, but doesn't and leaves.
We cut back to Peter all broody at the accident scene. Peter's partner asks if he's going to see Nathan while he's town. Peter says they're not really talking. The partner says that to be honest, all of Nathan's talk about rounding up "threatening" people is just code for picking up people like him, just for his family being from Iran and thinks Peter has no clue what it's like, being "different" and "scary." Peter scoffs and responds with "Believe me, I know more than you think." Then Peter's phone rings and he answers: It's Claire, who tells him of Angela and Nathan's nefarious plan to round up the super-powers that be, starting with Peter and Matt. She says she'll go warn Matt while Peter says he will go talk to Angela and call Claire when he knows something.
Peter flags down a cab and the driver is Mohinder. Peter says that it's a coincidence. (Really?) Mohinder says it's been awhile. Peter jokingly asks if Mohinder ever felt like he was meant to do something extraordinary. Mohinder says he used to but it turns out he was mistaken. They share a laugh. Peter asks if he's seen anyone. Mohinder says "I try not to. Everyone is trying to keep under the radar.", Everyone except Nathan, who is in all the papers and on TV. Mohinder says he doesn't disagree with Nathan's idea of trying to clamp down on the super-powered, as he now knows the consequences of abusing powers. But, Peter asks, is segregation, internment camps, government control really the answer? Mohinder says they'll "agree to disagree" and he gives Peter a free ride. Peter hops out and Danko The Hunter (Zeljko Ivanek) jumps in and pulls a gun on Mohinder and tells him to just drive.
The cab goes to the top of a parking garage where a group of armed, ski-masked men is waiting near a black van. Mohinder asks who the man is and what he wants. The man wants him to get into the van. As Mohinder stands by the cab, the man says he's surrounded. Mohinder pulls the door off and whacks the Hunter to the ground. The men shoot but Mohinder uses the door as a shield and runs off down several levels of the access spiral until an SUV driven by HRG cuts him off. HRG says if he wants to live he should get in. Mohinder hops in but is confused. HRG interrogates him as he drives: Has he heard anything about special peeps being abducted? No. Has he seen Claire? No. or Parkman? No. What did Peter say to him today? Wait, what? Mohinder's all, how did you know...? As the car comes skidding to a halt in front of the armed dudes, including Danko who is wobbling up. HRG is clearly working for them now. He apologizes to Mohinder and then tazers him in the leg. Mohinder struggles out of the car and collapses on the ground.
Peter enters Manse Petrelli (near 87th and Madison, apparently?) and calls out to her. Nathan is there. (Ma Angela is not). Nathan says it's been a long time and apologizes for being out of touch since he's been so busy. They fight about Nathan's plans to round up the supers. Nathan claims Angela isn't involved and that it's all his plans, not their late father's. Peter calls him a self-loathing hypocrite. Nathan admits that he was pretty harsh the last time they spoke but now he's seeking Peter's input and...advice. Peter offers, "Kiss my ass." Nathan says he's trying to extend an olive branch and asks Peter to meet him for dinner and that he'll text him when and where. Nathan wonders what the state of Peter's abilities are since his last minute injection and saving his brother's holier-than-thou ass from being crispy crittered at Pinehearst. Peter asks if he's a cop and wonders what the last thing Nathan saw him do was. "You flew," he says. Peter turns to leave.
Matt is in the apartment when his tortoise approaches him. Wondering "How'd the hell you get outta your tank?"
"You're talking to a turtle. Again." It's Matt's African spirit guide, Usutu. He's not really there -- "it's an illusion, like life" -- to deliver a message: Park-man has been chosen to be a prophet, much like he was chosen. Matt, who just wants to live a normal life, is not psyched. Usutu says, "You are not normal, Park-man, and you've known that for a while." The world needs him to tell them the future. Matt asks how. He will paint it, is the answer. Matt says he can't even draw. Usutu says he will learn. Apparently, he's a quick study because the moment he sits down he gets the white eyes of prophecy, no hyena dung and tree bark paste needed. He starts drawing.
Hiro is tracking Ando on a computer screen and talking to him through a headset. He apologizes for shooting him with the GPS and says Ando will thank him. Ando doubts it. Hiro wonders what he's doing. Fighting crime, just like Hiro wanted he replies. Hiro zooms in on the spot where Ando actually is, which is a strip club. The Ando-cycle is a chick magnet, apparently, and Ando is a PIMP! Hiro is offended by this misuse of Ando's powers. Ando hears Hiro scream over the head set. We see Hiro being dragged away (to AMERICA!) by armed, ski-masked men. Ando heads off, back to their new lair.
Claire arrives at Matt's apartment where he's just finished a drawing showing himself and Claire looking at drawings. He pulls a gun to answer the door. (So Matt's a typical New Yorker, already!) She tells him he's in danger. He explains about his new prophet powers. They see the two drawings of them right now. She wonders what the thing on his neck is in the drawing. Why, it's the tranquilizer dart about to be shot into his neck though the window by the armed, ski-masked men who invade his apartment! Matt collapses and Claire surrenders.
Peter goes home to find Nathan waiting for him saying they need to talk. Nathan apologizes for disowning Peter and for being selfish, arrogant, and obsessive but that what he's doing is important for the country and the world. He wants Peter to know that before he makes any decisions that could change his life forever. Peter says he's not making any decisions, he's just trying to live a normal life. But he's "not normal," says Nathan and that he wants Peter to admit that he understands that and he's with him and then he'll leave but make sure Peter has protection. Peter says he can't and won't do that. He doesn't know what Nathan's up to but he's going to fight him with every breath he has, swear to god. Nathan looks disappointed and asks for a hug. Someone then tazers Peter from behind. It's HRG. Nathan asks him not to hurt him.
Sylar walks up to the home/business of Samson Gray, taxidermist. (Apparently, he lives in the same neighborhood as Steven "Vortex" Canfield?) He enters a foyer that is unsurprisingly filled with stuffed animals. He calls out to see if anyone's home. He sees pictures on the mantel of a boy with glasses. He picks up a snow globe. He looks around, hears a door squeak (or hears a thud on CC). He spies a still burning cigarette. He is tazered from behind, shot with darts, and roped by several armed, ski-masked men. He manages to throw all these impediments off, however and zaps all the dudes. He drags one to him and interrogates him as he holds him in the air. The agent, Daniel Simmons, gives up only that he doesn't know where the man of the house is and that this was in fact a trap. He won't tell who sent him, so Sylar likes a challenge and starts the brain pan rip.
Ando is trying to work out the password to the computer system. It's not Kaito or Kensei. (Hiro's Dad and idol). It's Ando. (Awww. Luckily, it wasn't Charlie or Yaeko, or Ando would be SOL.) He finds Hiro's GPS signal on the screen near a large city airport. Fade to...
At a hangar, a group of orange prison jumpsuit clad supers is herded out of a van. They're cuffed, wearing black hoods, goggles, and some electronic device pumping them full of tranquilizers thru their noses affixed to their chests. Danko arrives, saying they have a situation with Sylar. Nathan is not surprised. Danko says they're sending a clean-up crew but there's another problem. A few men come forward and pull off a hood to reveal Claire to be one of the jumpsuit clad, sensory-deprived supers. Nathan tells them to uncuff her. As he carries her off, she tells him she hates him and that he will never get away with this. He says that someday she might forgive him, or she might not, but for now just to forget what she's seen. She asks where he's taking her. He says he's giving her a free pass. He walks back past Danko, who is probably wondering like everybody else why this show must constantly spare one of its most irritating characters. Having two dads just makes it worse! At any rate, the rest of the supers are already loaded onto the plane and strapped down in record time, considering they haven't even opened the loading ramp before Claire is taken away.
Claire wakes up in the town car ferrying her away and kicks the driver semi-unconscious. He's still aware enough to hit the brakes, we see. She jumps out and makes a run for the taxiing plane. She catches up as it stops to wait for take-off clearance and crawls into the wheel well right before it takes off. Nathan watches it take off and walks away.
Airborne, Claire climbs into the compartment where the supers are being held. As the guard turns away she starts uncovering the supers and trying to wake them. She finds and briefly unmasks Hiro and then Peter, who recognizes Suresh (they left his thumb-ring on), then mimics some of Suresh's super-strength by grabbing his hand. He then breaks free of his bolted down wrist shackles. (Again, all dozen prisoners were secured in the time it took Claire to wake up!) Claire begins unmasking others, including a random blond man, Tracy, Hiro (again, she put his mask back on after removing his nasal tranq-feed), some auburn-haired girl, and Matt, as Peter fights the returning guard. The soldier Peter is fighting drops his tazer, which Claire grabs, and Peter instructs her to go to the cockpit. She does, tazes one guard, turns to the pilot and tells him that they're going to make an unexpected landing. The co-pilot turns around and, OMG! it's HRG! "Claire?"
Peter is uncovering more peeps and fighting with the guard and soaking up more powers accidentally, like Tracy's freezing ability, much to her shock. He gets knocked off balance, touches the side of the plane and freezes it until it cracks and breaks open. He grabs onto some netting but at least one unknown masked super and two guards get sucked out the hole, along with a crate. The pilot starts giving out their flight path mayday as the plane starts to nosedive. "Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Den Mother 3-1 going down! Bearing 2-4-5 at 9-8. Off Walnut Ridge Vortac! We have lost pressure! Mayday! Mayday!" Claire is holding on to the cockpit door. All the uncovered supers are screaming, Peter's netting starts to pull loose from the side of the plane and he grabs Mohinder's arm as the plane is headed for a crash. Their fingers start to break apart....
