Fantasia has a proud tradition of showcasing the best and strangest of Asian cinema and 2010 will be no different!
The Asian film selection brought forth by Fantasia 2010 will allow spectators to experience a variety of Asian cultures, all while enjoying a wide range of cinematic genres that will inspire every possible emotion. From musicals to thrillers to war films and horror flicks, Asian filmmakers often use genre cinema as means of painting a portrait of their nation, highlighting certain social preoccupations, or examining historical events that have impacted that corner of the globe. This reality is strongly represented in the Asian film selection at this year's Fantasia Film Festival.
In order to paint an accurate picture of the national cinemas presented in our program, attention will also be given to certain key works that have helped shape the contemporary cinematic landscape of these countries. Therefore, Fantasia will offer an excellent selection of classic films,...

Good news for fans of Japanese film as a couple big titles are getting the English-friendly treatment.
First up, Accuracy of Death - the Takeshi Kaneshiro starring remake of Death Takes A Holiday, later remade in Hollywood as Meet Joe Black - has arrived with minimal fanfare and even less advance notice on English subtitled DVD in Hong Kong. This one just popped up as available today with no advance warning whatsoever. The film won a lot of love on the festival circuit so Kaneshiro fans will want to take a look.
Up next is Still Walking, the latest from acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-Eda. Hiroshi Abe stars in this one and after a foray into lighter territory with Hana, this looks to be a return to the more serious fare where Kore-Eda made his name, as he returns to themes of life and death. This one gets a subtitled release...

Actor Takeshi Kaneshiro returns to Japanese Cinema for his first Japanese film in six years - Sweet Rain (a.k.a. Accuracy of Death). Kaneshiro plays the God of Death, walking between the worlds of the bustling living and the ethereal dead. Based on Isaka Kotaro's best-selling novel, Sweet Rain may be the latest death god feature to appear, but this is no 'Death Note' clone. Co-starring Konishi Manami (Angel's Egg), Mitsuishi Ken (Megane), and Fuji Sumiko (Hula Girls), Accuracy of Death explores the value of life and inevitability of death through three seemingly separate lives, and the lonely death God who connects them together.
