Superficial reflections

This is one of the featurettes on the DVD of Blades of Glory. It consists of behind the scenes footage, interviews and film clips. This deals with the celebrities having to skate, and has a reasonable amount of information in the just under six minute running time. It's relatively interesting and all, if never particularly captivating. They don't talk about who they drew inspiration from, or where they got ideas for moves or anything like that, they solely talk about the training and the background of the handful of people who get on the ice in the movie. It's well-edited, sharp, and the material all looks good. Most of the talking heads in this have something to say, and it's almost funny once or twice. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd have laughed even if I had liked the flick itself, feel free to correct me if anyone who did love it found any of this short documentary hilarious. I wouldn't watch this before seeing the picture first. There's not a lot else to say. This doesn't have any strong language, and the images that are offensive are in the minority. I recommend this to those who want to know more about the subject. 5/10

Quite straight and lacking real value despite being quite interesting

I was quite taken aback by how many extra features there were on the DVD of Blades of Glory so, even though I didn't think the film was much more than amusing, I figured it would be rude not to check them out. I quite enjoyed the way that the "Making of" film didn't take itself too seriously so continued on though the features. Celebrities on Thin Ice is a lot "straighter" as a feature and just deals with the issue of getting the actors up to speed skating and performing as the script requires.

For something that lasts no more than five minutes it is interesting enough but there is not a lot of depth here. We get superficial comments about the difficulty of doing it but not much more than that. Meanwhile the digital and physical trickery utilised to make the action work as well as it did is alluded to more than actually discussed. Worth a glance if you liked the film but while the "making of" film pleased me by playing it for laughs, this is a lot straighter and less fun for it.
