- Most scenes involve high school students who are juniors and younger, who are implied to be over the nominal (but complex) age of consent.
- A guy masturbates; motion under the covers is visible for just a moment; the rest is out of frame. In another scene, a guy masturbates a girl. There's no nudity and their faces aren't seen. We see his hand on her bedclothes and hear moans; it lasts a while.
- A guy tries to make out with a girl. She resists, they grapple, and he eventually desists.
- A girl and guy intending to have sex partially undress; chest and breasts are visible.
- A man and a woman make out, her hand is placed on his clothed genitals; no nudity.
- A girl and guy wake up in a truck. It's implied nothing happened.
- A girl practices kissing with a mirror. In another scene, a girl and guy kiss a few times. And on TV, a man and woman are shown kissing intensely.
- A girl is seen in bra and pants or panties a few times.
- There's infrequent sexual dialog using terms such as "jerk off" and "cock tease."
Violence & Gore

- Gun violence plays a major role in the story, and we see guns and ammunition that have been taken from a student at school.
- We see three people shot. There's a split second view of one person's head rocking back with a bullet hole; no blood. A person is shot from a distance and falls, also showing no blood. And a person is shot in the abdomen, and we see copious blood on clothes. One of these is an imagined scene.
- Shots are fired near someone to scare the person away. People are threatened with a gun at various times. And a gun is aimed at persons who are unaware they are being watched. One character playing with a gun puts it in their mouth and mimics shooting.
- Lesser mayhem: A man is hit in the head with a chair. A drunk character engages in several brief scuffles in which people are knocked down. And we see a few drops of blood from a character who was mistakenly hit in the nose.
- Boxing is seen on TV for a moment, and violence is mentioned in a newspaper.
- A character vomits, but the effluent isn't seen.
- Some arguments get loud.
Profanity

- As English subtitled on the Artificial Eye DVD, it's frequent but not continuous: 20+ uses of "f*ck" and its derivatives, a lot of "shit", and just occasional other words including "ass", "damn", "bitch", and "pussy", most of it from the teen lead characters.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

- A young teen smokes cigarettes several times. On two occasions adults smoke so much the room is cloudy.
- Adults and teens regularly drink beer, wine, tequila, and liquor. A character is shown drunk and starting fights.

- Maru has coital sex for the first time, with Roman. We see thrusting and hear moaning, her face shows pain, and his chest and her breasts are visible half the time; the scene lasts a minute plus.

- It's emphasized that Maru drinks a lot of wine to work up the courage to have sex the first time.

- ***** BIG SPOILER AHEAD ******************************************************* Maru is shot, and bleeds copiously. She recovers but escapes from the hospital. We see her in pain and covered with blood. As Roman tries to help her, she dies.
