A Solid Enough Sequel!
vengeance2013 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, after playing the 2003 original, I went in search for this game, Manhunt 2! To say it was "a bit of a pain to find" would be an understatement! This game in comparrison to the first was a major pain to get a hold of & when I got to playing it, it was worth it... mostly!

The Games Story sees Daniel Lamb & Leo Kasper escape via a break out at an Asylum after being held there for 6 years! Now out & on the run from hunters & having no memory of who he was before, Daniel Lamb, with the help of Leo Kasper, tries to piece together who he is & digs into his past! But, as he digs deeper, revelations galore hits him hard & it is one revelation of all, that'll explain how he ended up in the Asylum in the first place!

I found the Game to be mostly enjoyable! While I find a bit more of a pain game play wisw, it's not too & you do get the hang of the controls eventually!

The story for this one I'd say is more in depth than the first which is simpler and straight forward! This one however, is a bit more complex & has more to it, but is a little confusing, especially when you chop & change characters and go back 6 years prior to the current events of the game!

While the game still retains the violence the first game has, this one is restrained & nuetered due to the controversey the first game had! The blur effects when a death occurs is a bit annoying & ruins the best part of what makes the Manhunt games ace & appealing! The gore is still there as with the violence, so it's not totally censored!

The scenes are dark & sinister enough, but aren't as sinister & dark as the first game! The music is good in this one, but again, isn't as good as the first game! In itself, the game is great and has enough creepy scenes & music to make it passable! Domestic Disturbance & Interrupted Broadcast are my 2 personal favourite scenes in this game!

The character of Daniel Lamb is good, while he lacks the appeal of James Earl Cash, he still is a good character & a change from the cold blooded one we saw in the 2003 original! Leo Kasper works well as the villain for this games story line & the hunters seen in this game are pretty great despite not being quite as good as the ones seen in the original Manhunt!

Overall, it's a great game! It's not as good as the first one from obvious reasons to others that make it feel like a step down from the raw & brutal 2003 original! You'll like me, enjoy & even just about love this one if you loved the 2003 original!

7/10.

An excellent psychological horror game.

Warning: Spoilers
Review for Ps2 version, PAL & NTSC. (18 rated UK, 'M' rated US version; both versions are the same as far as the censorship goes.) Okay, so before I go into my review of Manhunt 2, I'd just like to say I've played the original Manhunt game for the PS2, and I loved it just as much as this one. Manhunt 2 seems to have been plagued by censor boards all over the world, and the media, and what for? NOTHING. The game contains nothing more than what you would expect in a horror film or a movie intended for adults, this game's not for children, as such, it should have been treated as such. Not be censored, and plagued.

The censorship of the game hasn't ruined it in my opinion, I can play it and enjoy the game just as much as the original, in fact, Rockstar's way of censoring it kind of adds to the game in a way if you think about it. You're playing as Daniel Lamb, a disturbed patient and seeing the killing through his eyes and mind. You can still make out what is happening, unless you can't see too well. The filters adds a red tinge in the PS2 version, and flashes of black and white when you perform an execution, the more gruesome the execution, the more red tinge there will be, but it's easy to make out what's going on.

The one thing you might notice is, the change of controls in this game in comparison to the original Manhunt, the controls are WAY different! It took me a while getting used to it. Another thing is, sometimes the directional movements can be a little hard to control, particularly when you get in combat or in a fight. I loved playing through the first level on this game, it's suspenseful, creepy and menacing. The sound effects and music in the game is really good, without it, I wouldn't say the game would be as good. It adds to the whole experience of playing it, I think the sound effects might also have been bumped up during the executions, you can really hear the stabbing effects or someone getting choked when you perform an execution.

Manhunt 2 is an excellent horror psychological gaming experience, which got the reputation and censorship it DID NOT deserve at all. If you're a true Manhunt fan, go out and buy the original PS2 or Wii version of the game. If the filters are that bothering, there is cheats to remove them, look for them. Don't download some BETA version and ruin chances of getting a Manhunt 3.

I hope you'll enjoy playing it as much as I did! Great game 10/10 from me.

Rated 'M' for "blood and gore, strong violence, sexual content and language." Rated '18' in the UK for "very strong bloody and sadistic violence."

A truly excellent game given a bum rap.

Warning: Spoilers
Manhunt 2 is one of my favourite videogames on the Playstation 2, but sadly it's great qualities will not be recognized. Manhunt 2 is constantly and unfairly persecuted by the ESRB, the media, and gutter parents. Worst of all, the Manhunt community hates the sequel for reasons that will be explored later.

These people are not actual fans.

They are disgusting neo-Nazis looking for gore. They are ignorant racists looking for violent titillation. They are perverted teens that don't even care if the game is great if you can't see every dripping detail and entrail. They are the worst type of sucking scum. Their opinions are flawed and not valid.

One aspect of the game that has attracted many fans' anger is the much-maligned execution filter. This is a quick fix to appease the ESRB. It is not a game breaking feature. Every fan would love it if their was no filter and could stay true to the original vision, but in the current climate, this was not possible. If it was a perfect world, there would be no filter, but it is not a perfect world. I would rather there would was no obscuring of the executions, but if I can't choose, it doesn't matter to me. The filter does not change the score I give this game. If someone mentions that they gave a lower score because of the filter, you should not listen to their opinion.

Another thing people mention is a lack of memorable locations, hunters, and dialogue. I disagree. The original was great, but there none of the locales were particularly inspired. Junkyards? Shopping malls? Manhunt 2 offers a wide variety of arenas, like a deviant sex club, a brothel, a derelict porno theatre, and more.

Gang design also stands out. Although not as theatrical as the first games gangs, these brawlers are just as memorable. The Men in Black that pursue you are a novel twist on a tired concept.

The storyline has also attracted some flak. People have criticised the story as "Manchurian Candidate meets Drop Dead Fred". This is an incorrect opinion. This story of an intelligent young man whose mind and life are shattered by a twist of fate, is a really good one. Even though the first had a good story, it has concluded and a direct sequel would not have been good. People don't complain that the GTA series story lines are for the most part not connected outside the occasional reference.

There are many legitimate criticisms, however. The game is far too short, and many gangs and levels are short lived. The score screen has been removed from the retail version, and removed content is never good. Many of the executions have been altered, and though I said before it doesn't matter, it kind of sucks that there are missed opportunities for heads exploding and decapitating. Also, there are no bonus art panels or bonus levels like in the first one.

All in all, Manhunt 2 is a fantastic game that did not deserve the reception it got, like so many other great games.

Just as good as the original

Warning: Spoilers
Rated M for Blood & Gore, Strong Violence, Sexual Content and Language.

I am a big fan of the first Manhunt game. Its my favorite non Grand theft auto game.It was very bloody, violent and suspenseful. My heart literally beat very fast at certain points of that game.I found out that they were making a Manhunt 2 and I was really excited! When I heard that it got an AO rating, I was very excited but hoping they would make it M-rated on appeal.I was a bit disappointed by the fact that they toned it down to get an M rating but I still bought it.Like the first game, I didn't much care for it at first, but after playing it more and more, I started to love it.The fighting in this game is much improved over the first game in my opinion.Like the first game, the storyline of this one is very interesting and will wrap you up.I cant really tell much of the story without giving away any spoilers but the storyline is great. Now for the negative. The graphics I would say are on par with the first Manhunt but not good for 2007 standards. The game is fairly short and easy. The first game was longer and more of a challenge. It took me just three days to get to the last level of the game and it wasn't like I was playing it very much.My biggest problem with the game was the censored executions.I would have liked the game much better than the first if they left the executions uncensored. But they couldn't because they would get an AO rating. In some you cannot even tell what's going on.When you sneak up on somebody to kill them, the screen is all red and blurry.I heard there is a way to get the executions uncensored on the PS2 and PSP versions but I haven't tried to do so yet.Anyway,if you liked the first manhunt, then get this game.I heard the wii version was censored even more so than the PS2 and PSP versions but the wii versions seems cooler in my opinion because I heard you can move your controller while executing somebody.
