- Zach: Says here you were a meal distribution specialist, delivering platters of nutritious substances. Sounds a lot like a, uh...
- Maggie Vera: Waitress? Yeah, um, for six whole weeks. I-I learned a lot about customer service.
- Zach: Acapella group co-captain.
- Maggie Vera: I know how to harmonize with my co-workers.
- Zach: No college education?
- Maggie Vera: I'm taking a gap year, you know, to avoid academic burnout. And, frankly, isn't life an education, Zach-man?
- Zach: I'm all for looking for core competencies in unusual ecosystems, but... this résumé doesn't exactly scream "management."
- Maggie Vera: Hey, would it help if I knew Latin?
- Zach: A dead language?
- Maggie Vera: Finge cor. Muta mentem. Alia eventa mihi.
- [quietly]
- Maggie Vera: Shape the heart, change the mind, give me results of a different kind.
- [she blows magic dust into his face]
- Zach: Dead. But not buried. Carpe diem, am I right?
- Maggie Vera: [laughing, relieved] Hey, Zach, is it really necessary to do that background check? I just... I would hate for the company to waste all that time and money.
- Zach: Look at you. Cost cutting already.
- Harry Greenwood: We saved one, but we lost one.
- Macy Vaughn: Her name was Sara.
- Mel Vera: Que descanse en paz. Rest in peace.
- Harry Greenwood: Maybe you should go home, hmm? Get some sleep.
- Macy Vaughn: I can't. I'm the only one here with powers. Who's gonna save the next dying witch?
- Katrina Chandra: So... what is it you seek? We have to articulate it before we go on our journey. A deeper desire? Perhaps an urgent question you need answered.
- Mel Vera: [for cover, in a general sense] We've lost our power.
- Harry Greenwood: Yes. And we need to get it back.
- Katrina Chandra: We all feel a bit powerless these days. You know, the universe doesn't always give us what we want, but it always gives us what we need.
- Mel Vera: Let's hope so.
- Maggie Vera: Macy!
- Macy Vaughn: Before you say anything, I have to tell you something.
- Maggie Vera: Well, I can't tell anyone anything. My interview is in ten minutes, and my competition happens to be the most interesting man in the world, who's also handsome and-and charming...
- Macy Vaughn: Maggie, stop talking!
- Maggie Vera: Whoa. That was a bit harsh.
- [stepping aside, Macy reveals the blindfolded Abigael]
- Maggie Vera: Macy? What did you do?
- Maggie Vera: You went on a mission alone and brought back a complete stranger? Are you insane?
- Macy Vaughn: I didn't have a choice. She would have died. Isn't that why the Elders established this place? As-as a safe haven for witches?
- Maggie Vera: Okay, so what's your plan for your new bestie, then? An air mattress in your room?
- Macy Vaughn: I don't know, but she has powers. She can help us. Maggie, I can't keep doing this alone.
- Maggie Vera: Don't you think I'd rather be out there helping you instead of dealing with this job-hunting crap? They wanna do a background check on me, Macy.
- Macy Vaughn: You cannot let them.
- Maggie Vera: Yes, I know! But I have, like, four minutes to figure this out.
- Macy Vaughn: You need a spell, or something...
- Maggie Vera: Yeah, well, there's no background check spell that I'm aware of.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Have you... have you tried a Malleaorum?
- Maggie Vera: Malleaorum?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Uh, an influencer spell. Sorry. I don't mean to pry. It's just, they're very effective at influencing people.
- Maggie Vera: Tell me more.
- Maggie Vera: Aren't you a little old to be applying for an assistant manager position?
- Jordan Chase: Aren't you a little young to be applying for an assistant manager position?
- Maggie Vera: Well, I'm 20, if you must know.
- Jordan Chase: I'm 25, since you asked.
- Maggie Vera: I didn't. But really? You just... you seem more mature than that.
- Jordan Chase: Ever since my growth spurt in sixth grade, everyone thinks I'm... 30. But the upside is, I never get carded.
- Maggie Vera: Impressive accomplishment for the résumé.
- Jordan Chase: Ooh, would you like a copy?
- Maggie Vera: What? No, I... I wasn't...
- [happening to look at it]
- Maggie Vera: You were a Big Brother? Military for four years?
- Jordan Chase: Paid for college. Gym helps pay for law school... at night.
- Maggie Vera: Wow. That's impressive.
- Jordan Chase: And you? Got anything besides homecoming queen or longest keg stand at Delta Gamma whatever?
- Maggie Vera: That's really off base. I mean, I happened to be both of those things, but that does not mean you have me pegged. I've seen things, Jordan. Things that would make a grown man cry. Even a very grown one... like you.
- Harry Greenwood: I think we've found it. The astral plane.
- Mel Vera: What's happening, Harry?
- Harry Greenwood: Time and space overlap. Sounds from other dimensions bleeding through.
- Mel Vera: [sarcastic] Of course. Why didn't I think of that?
- Mel Vera: Are you the sentinel?
- The Sentinel: You can see me?
- [laughing, he hugs them]
- The Sentinel: Oh! I have not seen another soul in hundreds of years, and... not a living soul. Oh. But... if you're up here, things must be pretty bad down there.
- Harry Greenwood: [shaking hands] Harry Greenwood, and... we need to talk.
- Maggie Vera: Seattle, we have a problem.
- Macy Vaughn: What now?
- Maggie Vera: My orange keycard is being revoked. They're only for management now.
- Mel Vera: How could you lose our only way into the command center?
- Maggie Vera: I didn't lose it. The rules changed because someone goes through legal pads like tissues, and someone else has to have a SafeSpace hoodie in every room.
- Macy Vaughn: They're really soft.
- Maggie Vera: Okay, you know what, my point is, this puppy expires in 24 hours, and then it gets deactivated. Which means bye-bye SafeSpace and access to the switch room.
- Macy Vaughn: I'm here to help you. Who are you?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I was kidnapped. I managed to escape, but they're after me.
- Macy Vaughn: Who?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Look out!
- [a black hood is put over Macy's head]
- Mel Vera: So, how exactly did you end up here?
- The Sentinel: LeeAnn and I had two boys, Owen and Walter. They got smallpox. Then so did my wife. The Elders came to me in my hour of grief. They offered me a deal. My wife and kids could live if I agreed to serve as their sentinel, protecting the Book of Elders. But if it's true they're gone, then I'm stuck.
- Harry Greenwood: It's a beautiful garden.
- The Sentinel: It's an empty garden. Oh, sure, the occasional spirit passes through, but they can't see me. Do you like Scotch?
- Harry Greenwood: We're sorry for your predicament. Truly. But we've been trying to decipher the Book of Elders, and it led us to you. We need your help.
- The Sentinel: Who are "we," exactly?
- Mel Vera: The Charmed Ones. Harry is our Whitelighter.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [Macy tries to use her powers] Don't bother. These demons have us in some kind of magical Faraday cage. No signals, no powers. You're a witch, too?
- Macy Vaughn: Yeah.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I'm so sorry. This is my fault.
- Macy Vaughn: It's... it's okay. Don't worry. Help will come soon.
- Mel Vera: Is it possible this code is basically uncrackable? Would the Elders do that to us?
- Harry Greenwood: Where did you find this image of an owl?
- Mel Vera: [looking] Here.
- Harry Greenwood: That's a symbol of the sentinel. An ancient, orphic figure rumored to live on the astral plane.
- Mel Vera: The astral plane?
- Harry Greenwood: A series of cosmic planes or dimensions where souls live out their karmic destinies. The sentinel is the keeper of all wisdom and knowledge.
- Mel Vera: Then let's go find the sentinel.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, were it that easy...
- Mel Vera: Um...
- [looking at the book]
- Mel Vera: These letters on the hands: B-O-E. Book of Elders?
- Harry Greenwood: Or O-B-E.
- Mel Vera: Out-of-body experience. Mom used to talk about astral projections as a kind of out-of-body-experience. She'd meditate in a prayer circle, drink some kind of special tea...
- Harry Greenwood: All the elements are here: the prayer circle, the sentinel, the O-B-E. All that's missing is...
- Mel Vera: The tea. What if these images are the ingredients?
- Harry Greenwood: And the numerical codes are the measurements. Of course.
- Mel Vera: [going to and opening a cabinet] Let's see what the Elders have left us.
- Maggie Vera: Wait, you're applying for the management gig?
- Jordan Chase: Yeah. Why?
- Maggie Vera: I... I just... I thought the boxing thing was your full-time thing.
- Jordan Chase: I got a lot of full-time things. Always gotta be hustling, you know? You, too?
- Maggie Vera: Yeah. Yeah. Look... Jordan, I really... really need this job. My sisters and I are starting over, like, from scratch, and they're really counting on me to, um... to get this.
- Jordan Chase: So you want me to just... put this back? Make it that much easier for you?
- Maggie Vera: You would do that?
- Jordan Chase: Uh... no. You're not the only one with bills to pay and dreams to finance, Miss Maggie.
- Maggie Vera: Okay, well, you don't have to be a jerk about it.
- Jordan Chase: I'm the jerk? You just asked me to bow out of a job. This is real life, Maggie, not sorority row. You want the job... you need to fight for it, like everyone else.
- Maggie Vera: Point taken. Just know I play to win.
- Jordan Chase: Great. See you in the ring.
- Harry Greenwood: Are you all right?
- Macy Vaughn: My demon side is what gives me my firepower.
- Harry Greenwood: And probably why the Book rejected you.
- Macy Vaughn: I tried using my powers in the command center, but it didn't work. I should have known. If the room's protected, the Book will be, too.
- Harry Greenwood: I'm sure the Elders enchanted it so it didn't fall into the wrong hands.
- Macy Vaughn: My hands?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I was at a bar for a friend's birthday. One of those demons must have slipped something in my drink. The last thing I remember, I was dancing, and then I woke up in this cell.
- Macy Vaughn: Are there more here? Like us?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I don't know, but I heard them talking. They're gonna sacrifice us for this demon called the Overlord.
- Macy Vaughn: The Overlord.
- [remembering a previous mission]
- Macy Vaughn: Hey, what's your name?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Abigael.
- Macy Vaughn: Macy. Abigael, we have to get out of here.
- [seeing a light in the ceiling, she gets an idea]
- Macy Vaughn: We need to take the coils out of this mattress.
- Mel Vera: Harry, any luck with orbing?
- Harry Greenwood: No. My powers are still on the blink.
- Macy Vaughn: How did we just battle twenty demons and we can't get through a simple door?
- Maggie Vera: Well... we can if someone becomes an assistant manager.
- Mel Vera: You just started. Do you really think you can get a promotion?
- Maggie Vera: Thanks for the vote of confidence. And yes, I do.
- Macy Vaughn: We can't go on like this. We need our magic. And the answers are in that book. So, what's taking so long, Mel?
- Mel Vera: What's taking so long to decipher a 1,000-page tome written in an ancient language? Seriously? You want to try cracking this thing, have at it, sister.
- Maggie Vera: Fine. I'm already doing everything else around here. Why not?
- [as she touches the Book of Elders, she's thrown backward]
- Harry Greenwood: Macy, you need to sleep.
- Macy Vaughn: I can't. I never know when...
- Harry Greenwood: The assassin will be back. In your dreams. The fact that something that looks like me is... torturing you...
- Macy Vaughn: It's not your fault.
- Harry Greenwood: I'm gonna help Mel figure out that book. We will get our powers back. The magic is still within us. We just need to reclaim it.
- Jordan Chase: Miss Formidable. Maggie, right? How's the adulting going?
- Maggie Vera: Not gonna lie, it's... it's pretty stressful.
- Jordan Chase: Hmm. Well, you wouldn't know it. You wear it well.
- Maggie Vera: Oh. I wish I didn't have to wear it at all. I'm sorry about that... meltdown I had in your boxing gym the other day.
- Jordan Chase: Ah, no, no. You're good. You wanna see real meltdowns, you should come to my Thursday night class. Med students. Now, that's... that's some serious cray.
- Mel Vera: Okay, we already have blue lotus, skullcap, cinquefoil. All we need now are the stems of Psychotria viridis and white vinegar.
- Harry Greenwood: And a human anchor.
- Mel Vera: A what, now?
- Harry Greenwood: One of the dangers of visiting the astral plane: your spirit can be severed from your physical being unless a human grounds you to the real world.
- Mel Vera: We need a guide tethered to the "here" so we don't get lost in the "there"?
- Harry Greenwood: Bingo.
- Mel Vera: [he shows her a pamphlet for private meditation sessions] Please, no. The woman's a charlatan. And I think she's kind of into me.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, all the better. We need her to say yes. Who else is gonna commit to five hours of meditation?
- Katrina Chandra: [entering] Anything I can help you with?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Callum, who cares about that little witch? Look what's here. The Book of Elders. You can have it.
- Callum: The Holy Grail.
- [as he touches it, he's thrown backward; getting to his feet, he tries to use his powers]
- Macy Vaughn: Your demon powers are no good down here.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: But witches' powers are.
- [magically throwing a pitchfork around his throat]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: And I happen to have both.
- Callum: What are you doing?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Now you will pay, Demon Overlord.
- Callum: It's you... isn't it?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Daemon victus sale.
- Macy Vaughn: Daemon victus sale.
- [as they stab him, he turns to stone and crumbles into dust]
- Harry Greenwood: [entering with Mel] It appears as though we've missed something.
- Katrina Chandra: Can't believe we just meditated for five hours.
- [Mel tries to freeze her, but non-verbally communicates to Harry that she can't]
- Katrina Chandra: Did the universe give you what you needed?
- Mel Vera: I think it did.
- Mel Vera: So that was the Demon Overlord?
- Macy Vaughn: And now he's gone, thanks to Abigael. And this salty dagger.
- Harry Greenwood: Salt speeds up a demon's desiccation.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Exactly.
- Mel Vera: First thing tomorrow, we figure out how to decode the Book, figuring out how to get our powers back.
- Maggie Vera: And... now that we have the keycard... you can work on the Book anytime, day or night.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, I don't know about you ladies, but I could certainly do with a celebratory cocktail.
- Mel Vera: You read my mind, Har.
- Maggie Vera: Abigael, listen to me. You have to calm down. I don't know, but he's here in SafeSpace.
- Callum: [putting a hand around her throat] I'll make you a deal. Take me to Abigael. And when I kill you, I'll make it quick.
- Macy Vaughn: Give me one good reason I shouldn't destroy you right now.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's not what you think. I'm a witch. I swear. And a demon. Like you, Macy.
- Macy Vaughn: I don't believe you.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I was the product of an affair. A love child or a bastard, depending on who you ask. I've spent my whole life feeling like I never really belonged. Too witchy for the demon world and...
- Macy Vaughn: Too demon-y for the witch world.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I'm sorry. I should have told you.
- Mel Vera: We need to go back to the sentinel. If this is the cost, the torment of a human soul... no. That price is too high.
- Harry Greenwood: Without powers, how many countless witches will die?
- Mel Vera: Damn it, Harry. Why would the Elders do this to us? Force us to make an impossible choice?
- Harry Greenwood: Unless maybe that's the point. It's all a test. The Elders were fond of cruel dilemmas. Perhaps this is what we're supposed to struggle with.
- Mel Vera: Make the struggle even worse by allowing me to get close to her. So if this is some sick leadership test, do the Elders want us to sacrifice the one to save the many?
- Harry Greenwood: Or perhaps it's about moral character, and they want us to sacrifice our powers to save an innocent life. You have to choose, Mel, between our powers and her life.
- Mel Vera: The path to power is not about strength, it's about wisdom. I have an idea, Harry. It's a crazy one and requires a leap of faith.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, I'm all ears.
- Mel Vera: Orb us to the roof.
- [he does so]
- Mel Vera: Harry, our minds went to the astral plane. What if we're still there? And none of this is real?
- Harry Greenwood: The precipice between the here and the there. But what if you're wrong?
- Mel Vera: But what if I'm right?
- Harry Greenwood: Okay. You're Butch. I'm Sundance.
- Maggie Vera: What's going on? You're closing the studio?
- Jordan Chase: I needed the gig to cover the rent. SaceSpace ain't cheap.
- Maggie Vera: I-I-I feel horrible.
- Jordan Chase: Don't, don't. You told me you play to win, and you won. Fair and square. You are formidable, Maggie.
- Maggie Vera: [guiltily] Yeah. Jordan, I'm... I'm really sorry you...
- [spotting Callum]
- Maggie Vera: Sorry. I have to go.
- The Sentinel: Impressive. You solved it.
- Mel Vera: The test... was to figure out it was a test.
- Harry Greenwood: So we never actually left the astral plane.
- The Sentinel: Mm.
- Mel Vera: And Katrina?
- The Sentinel: None the wiser.
- Mel Vera: The Elders take sick pleasure in torturing us, even from the grave.
- The Sentinel: To be fair, the Book of Elders contains the greatest secrets and spells in all of witchcraft. Old magic. Dead magic. Healing magic. Dangerous magic.
- Mel Vera: So does that mean that you can't give us back our powers?
- Harry Greenwood: Can you translate the Book?
- The Sentinel: [offering them a metal scarab] No. But you can. Use this cipher to decipher the Book. Use it wisely.
- Harry Greenwood: [seeing the echoes of a woman and her children] Your family.
- The Sentinel: Good luck to both of you. Come see me again sometime, eh?
- Mel Vera: I can't thank you enough for that powerful session. How much do we owe you?
- Katrina Chandra: I feel bad charging you. I enjoyed myself.
- Mel Vera: Can I get you a coffee or something?
- Katrina Chandra: [taking her hand] Or something. Come on. Since the first moment we met, there's been a connection here. You and me. Look me in the eyes. Tell me I'm wrong.
- Mel Vera: You're not wrong, but...
- [Katrina kisses her]
- Mel Vera: Kat. Everyone I've ever cared about has suffered as a result of being with me. I'm not sure that this is a good idea.
- Katrina Chandra: There's only one way to find out.
- Macy Vaughn: Is that a tracker?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: A tracker? He must have put it there. The Demon Overlord.
- Macy Vaughn: He knew we'd try to escape. Maybe you were bait.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: To get to you?
- Macy Vaughn: And my sisters.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: The Charmed Ones. I'm so sorry, Macy. I'll leave right now.
- Macy Vaughn: It's o... it's okay. He can't find us in here. And even if he did find us, demon powers don't work down here.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: But your sisters... are up there.
- Maggie Vera: One of the demons from the four bloodlines is here. In SafeSpace.
- Macy Vaughn: It's him. He's the Overlord.
- Maggie Vera: Oh, my god. Well, we can't just take him on here in SafeSpace. People could get hurt.
- Macy Vaughn: Which is why need to lure him downstairs.
- Maggie Vera: To the command center? Then what?
- Macy Vaughn: We vanquish him.
- Mel Vera: Assistant manager. I have to say, Mags, I didn't think you had it in you. They really showed no mercy.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, I pity anyone who comes up against you.
- Macy Vaughn: So, Wembley? That's where you're headed?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I have some relatives there who'd be kind enough to let me in.
- Macy Vaughn: I kind of wish you could just stay here. Is that crazy?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: No, it's wonderful. Well, I guess this is goodbye.
- Mel Vera: Harry, what is going on?
- Harry Greenwood: I don't know.
- Mel Vera: Why can't you just heal her?
- Harry Greenwood: I can't heal worms, Mel. Maybe this is the consequence the sentinel was talking about.
- Mel Vera: Oh, god. What have we done?
- Macy Vaughn: Sorry about the blindfold.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Small ask, considering you saved me. I am curious what all the secrecy is about.
- Macy Vaughn: Abigael, I know this might be hard for you to talk about, but... can you tell me what the Overlord looked like?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Uh... tall. Slicked-back hair. And he, uh... he wore a green ring on his right hand. The one he kept striking me with. Are you looking for him?
- Macy Vaughn: More like hunting him. He's been trying to unite the four demon families against us. He is the reason innocent witches have been slaughtered.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, we know where he is. We have to go back there, destroy him.
- Macy Vaughn: We barely made it out of there alive. If we attacked that place, we'd... we'd need an army of seriously powerful witches.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Or just... the Power of Three. I heard you. I heard you say her name. Maggie. And you're Macy. I heard a rumor that you're still alive. I-I prayed for it to be true.
- Harry Greenwood: Our world is in chaos. Demons are attacking witches.
- Mel Vera: My sisters and I are the only ones left who can stop this. But we've lost our powers.
- The Sentinel: Then you have come to see me to help you get them back, have you?
- Mel Vera: Can you do that?
- The Sentinel: [pouring a magical potion for them] Drink with me.
- [they do so]
- The Sentinel: Now get out of here.
- Harry Greenwood: Excuse me?
- The Sentinel: Just touch your anchor over there, and when you wake up, you'll be fully empowered.
- Harry Greenwood: We can't thank you enough.
- The Sentinel: Just remember, nothing in life or death is without consequence.
- Katrina Chandra: Wow, we just meditated for five hours. How is it for you?
- Mel Vera: Let you know shortly.
- [freezing Katrina]
- Mel Vera: Harry, my powers are working. This witch is back, baby. How about you?
- Harry Greenwood: Let's find out.
- [he orbs them a few feet away and back]
- Harry Greenwood: Sharper than ever.
- Katrina Chandra: [Mel unfreezes her] I'll straighten up. See you inside?
- Mel Vera: [quietly] She has no idea what just happened?
- Harry Greenwood: None.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's you, isn't it? You're the Charmed Ones. You're alive.
- [looking around]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I'm in the Charmed Ones'...
- Macy Vaughn: Uh, command center, I guess you'd call it.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Command center.
- [seeing the Book of Elders]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: This must be the Book of Shadows.
- Macy Vaughn: Oh, no, that's not...
- [as Abigael touches the book, it throws her backward]
- Macy Vaughn: You're not a witch. You're a demon, aren't you?
- [pushing her against a wall and putting a dagger to her throat]
- Macy Vaughn: Answer me.
- Macy Vaughn: Just before we vanquished Callum, he said something.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Did he?
- Macy Vaughn: Yeah. Um... "It's you, isn't it?" That's... that's what he said.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Who knows? I think he would have said anything to stay alive.
- Macy Vaughn: Yeah.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Goodbye, Macy.
- [as they hug, Macy gets an alarm of a command center breach]
- Macy Vaughn: [after a brief fight and disarming her] I trusted you the first time. I will not make that mistake again.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Wait! That green scar on your leg.
- [she shows Macy a similar scar on her stomach, and Macy flashes back to the Harry look-alike assassin]
- Macy Vaughn: The assassin. No.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Whatever it is, the thing that came for you... it came for me, too.
