Know your candidate
JordanThomasHall15 June 2020
Miss Grey (Doris Belack) encourages the class to take an active interest in the upcoming election by campaigning for a candidate they admire. Patty and Cathy have just met one of Martin's acquaintances, T. J. Blodgett (Alan Bunce) who is running for Congress. Mr. Blodgett also is serves on the board of directors for Martin's newspaper. Martin thinks it would be a good experience, but advises them to know the positions, as the other candidate, Clark Williams (Morgan Sterne), is also a good man. When Cathy asks Mr. Blodgett where he stands on certain issues, he points her to his campaign manager Duffy (Stanley Simmonds), who "wrote it". Duffy brushes off the questions, merely firing them up to go to work for the campaign. The girls find difficulty in campaigning. They rethink their support after hearing the other candidate's speech about his position and having Mr. Blodgett tell them it's only important to tell people what they want to hear. Patty and Cathy decide to campaign for Mr. Williams instead. Miss Grey asks the girls to represent their school on the panel show "Youth Must Be Heard", quizzing the two candidates. Mr. Blodgett is leading the polls, but their questioning could change things and cause problems.

What an important lesson for our youth today in how to not be blindly told how to think and act. A nice moral lesson in doing the right thing and fully investigating on your own the views of each candidate.
