"Charm Doesn't Pay the Bills"

Lucy poses as a slovenly scrubwoman in need of a major makeover so Rosie can impress potential investors in her new charm school.

Inspired by the recent box office success of MY FAIR LADY, this is one of the best of the Countess/Ann Sothern episodes.

The casting of Reta Shaw and Byron Foulger really helps elevate this one. Any episode that allows Shaw's "overbearing fat lady" persona be the brunt of humor is always a winner. She's way funnier here than in Season 4's "Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere" where she was given little to do but deliver exposition lines. When Lucy asks Shaw, "Why can't you be more like your SON, here ?" it's a scream.

Bonus points for the script not insulting the audience's intelligence. Lucy's caviar allergy was alluded to early in the episode, then comes back to cause trouble in the big party scene.
