This is one of two Season 3 episodes that has Lucy being a part of the Danfield Polce Department. The writers are trying something new, but I guess even they knew it wasn't really going to work since this idea is quickly dropped and never mentioned again. These are not great episodes but at least they aren't as bad as the Fire Department ones, which I can't stand.

The best scene occurs at the beginning where we see Lucy training for the physical fitness test in the living room as she banters with Viv. It is a joy to watch the ladies jump rope together. We don't see anything happen at the Police Academy which is odd. (You'd think they would have milked the fitness test for all its' worth, like they did on Laverne & Shirley years later). The next scene has Lucy already on the job as a meter maid who writes Viv up for a parking violation. At least the script offers up some funny jokes about Viv's age.

Viv decides to fight the ticket so we end up in court for the final scene. I have never enjoyed sitcom courtroom scenes. To me, they are almost always dull and offer nothing but the same tired cliches---the overexaggerated testimony, the exasperated judge, etc. And this one is no different. At least we get veteran character actor Parley Baer as the judge.

Only 6 stars for this one. Lucy looks sleek and trim in her policewoman's uniform, but I think Vivian looks rather tired in this episode and there is not a lot here to make it memorable.
