- Macy Vaughn: Why should we believe anything you say when all you've done is lie and try to kill me?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Only because I thought you were behind that thing that attacked me and my comrades. Which is why I decided to teach you a lesson.
- Macy Vaughn: The dead witches in Vermont, that was you?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I extracted some of the poison from my side, found a way to titrate it, and turn it into a weapon. It was payback. Though it seems that was a slight miscalculation on my part, since we apparently share the same enemy. Now, why don't you remove this stupid containment spell so we can strategize as to what to do next?
- Macy Vaughn: We? There is no "we."
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: You stupid witch! You may not like me, but you need me.
- Macy Vaughn: And why is that, exactly?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Because you have limited powers, and your sisters have none. Frankly, you need all the help you can get.
- Harry Greenwood: Abigael's not wrong. We need allies. We can't do this alone.
- Macy Vaughn: Any luck decoding the Book of Elders?
- Harry Greenwood: Even with the cipher, it's slow-going. Some of it translates to Latin, some to Sumerian. There's even a section in Coptic. Best I've got so far is that Whitelighters were created "at great cost," whatever that means.
- Macy Vaughn: Okay, well, I'm gonna follow Abigael's clue, head to Montana. Meantime, you stay on the Book of Elders.
- Harry Greenwood: I'm coming with you. It's too dangerous.
- Macy Vaughn: No. The Book is our only hope to getting our powers back, and helping us understand what the hell we're even doing here.
- Harry Greenwood: That assassin is out there impersonating me. We need a safeword. So you know it's me and not him.
- Macy Vaughn: Um, how about Hut 8?
- Harry Greenwood: The British Intelligence unit where Alan Turing...
- Macy Vaughn: Cracked the German's World War II U-boat code.
- Harry Greenwood: Clever and poetic. I approve.
- Macy Vaughn: I thought you might.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: You witches, so high and mighty. If anyone's the murderer, it's you.
- Macy Vaughn: What did you say?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Look at my face. Look closely. Do I remind you of anyone? Allow me to fully introduce myself. Abigael Jameson-Caine.
- Macy Vaughn: [recognizing the name] Caine. As in...
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Daughter of Alistair Caine, half-sister to Hunter Caine, both of whom your family murdered.
- [with a sarcastic curtsy]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: The pleasure is all yours.
- Jordan Chase: How did you and your sisters end up here?
- Maggie Vera: My-my parents... uh, both died. Not at the same time, but... my sisters and I needed a fresh start, and, uh... we decided to leave our home in, um, Pittsburgh. So...
- Jordan Chase: Mm-hmm?
- Maggie Vera: You finished college in three years, and you're now going to law school at night.
- Jordan Chase: Hm.
- Maggie Vera: You seem to really know who you are.
- Jordan Chase: Hmm. "Know thyself." Isn't that what Socrates said?
- Maggie Vera: Don't ask me. I dropped out of college.
- Jordan Chase: You'll get back to it.
- Maggie Vera: I hope so.
- Maggie Vera: So, the first qualification for the Good Karma Project is community connection.
- Jordan Chase: Mm. Well, I've got that down. The Chase family, mine, was one of the first black families to settle in these parts.
- Maggie Vera: So your family has a real... history here.
- Jordan Chase: Mm. Yeah.
- Maggie Vera: [touching his arm to test her powers, nothing happens] S-Sorry, you just... you had a piece of lint.
- Maggie Vera: Anything in the Book of Elders about having your powers restored by a boxing instructor?
- Harry Greenwood: Take a look at this. I believe this symbol is the hieroglyphic for "Whitelighter."
- Maggie Vera: Hmm.
- Harry Greenwood: Let me ask you something. What letter do you think that is?
- Maggie Vera: Maybe an E?
- Harry Greenwood: Ah. Yeah, interesting. That would make it "Tessera."
- [a spider is conjured]
- Harry Greenwood: Which is Latin for "password." Follow it.
- Maggie Vera: [following the spider] Over here.
- Harry Greenwood: [moving a bookcase] Help me.
- [seeing a magical doorway]
- Harry Greenwood: Hello.
- Maggie Vera: I think I'm getting my powers back. Or a more advanced version of them.
- Mel Vera: How? How did you do it?
- Maggie Vera: I don't know. Something happened with Jordan. I shook his hand, and in my head, I had this... vision. I knew what he was thinking or feeling. He looked me right in the eyes and said "I love you." I think I need to go back and figure out a way to touch him again.
- Mel Vera: Margarita Emilia Vera.
- Maggie Vera: It's not what you think.
- Mel Vera: I think you like touching him.
- Maggie Vera: To get my powers back.
- Mel Vera: Maggie, you better not be falling for this guy.
- Maggie Vera: You always treat me like I'm some lovesick puppy.
- Mel Vera: One word: Parker.
- Maggie Vera: Another word: Niko.
- Mel Vera: Exactly. We need to keep our distance from everyone. Otherwise, we end up nearly killing the ones we love or they end up nearly killing us.
- Maggie Vera: You know, I'm getting my powers back, and I thought you would be happy.
- Mel Vera: I am. Powers are good. Powers are something we need.
- Maggie Vera: And if Jordan is the key to getting mine back, I have to figure that out.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: That's all I remember. I passed out after that and woke up freezing and shackled in the back of a refrigerated truck. With green luminescent poison coursing through me.
- Harry Greenwood: How is it that you're still alive?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Oh, it weakened me momentarily, but he underestimated what I'm capable of.
- Harry Greenwood: You escaped.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Found myself on a road to nowhere. Colstrip, Montana.
- Harry Greenwood: Did you see its face?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: No. Never took his hood off.
- Macy Vaughn: You pretended to be a witch to smoke us out and then enlisted us to destroy Callum. Why?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I was trying to unite the demon world. He stood in the way.
- Harry Greenwood: You. You're the Overlord.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I took an old myth and used it to my advantage. My limited species doesn't recognize people without penises, so I pretended to have one. Sue me.
- Maggie Vera: Got to assume the Elders left this here.
- Harry Greenwood: A fair assumption, given they put the passcode in the book.
- Maggie Vera: [as he picks up a New York driver's license, his image appears on it] Magical driver's license. Sweet.
- Harry Greenwood: [picking up an envelope] "Alpha."
- [taking out the contents, billing statements from Tulipe Institute]
- Harry Greenwood: [seeing the crest on the back] "Tulipe Institute."
- Maggie Vera: Why does that sound familiar?
- Maggie Vera: [cut to upstairs at SafeSpace] Tulipe. Same name as the women's asylum that burned down here.
- Harry Greenwood: Most definitely not a coincidence. I'm so close to a breakthrough here. I can feel it.
- Maggie Vera: [seeing Jordan nearby] Me, too. You pursue your breakthrough. I'm gonna pursue mine.
- Maggie Vera: So, you were in the army.
- Jordan Chase: Yeah. I was a medic.
- Maggie Vera: You came back home after?
- Jordan Chase: Yeah, I was forced back, really. I have a complicated family.
- Maggie Vera: Join the club.
- Jordan Chase: My grandmother, who raised me, uh, she got sick. So I came back to take care of her.
- Maggie Vera: [touching his arm again] I'm so sorry.
- Mel Vera: Are you sure she went this way?
- Macy Vaughn: I'm not sure of anything, except that we'd better keep moving.
- Mel Vera: When we find this woman, the first thing we do is serve her up for dinner.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, you'll be happy to know I'm 100% delicious. Like this apple.
- Macy Vaughn: [slapping it out of her hand] What kind of game are you...
- [hearing the Kyon snarling]
- Macy Vaughn: ...playing?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: This is not a game. You cowards wanted to go back, I wanted to go forward. And I was right. Look.
- Mel Vera: [seeing a puddle of green goo] This is the assassin's poison.
- Macy Vaughn: He was here.
- Mel Vera: Or maybe she planted it.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Oh, bloody hell.
- Mel Vera: You used this to kill those innocent witches in Vermont. Maybe you brought it here, too.
- Macy Vaughn: Is this it? Are we on the right track?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Okay, the woods... that sign. We're in the right place. The truck was headed this way. You know, you should take off my cuff. If we get into trouble, I don't think little miss fanny pack is gonna be much help.
- Mel Vera: Can we get another cuff that disables her mouth?
- Maggie Vera: I've never had my own office before.
- Swan: Oh, we don't say "office."
- Maggie Vera: Oh, we... we don't?
- Swan: It's a microaggression against people who worked corporate jobs. We prefer "creative cocoon."
- Maggie Vera: Note taken.
- Nurse: Visiting hours are over, sir.
- Harry Greenwood: Yes. I'm sorry it's so late, but it's urgent. I would appreciate your assistance with this case number.
- Nurse: [giving the document a once-over] That patient has restricted access. Only people on the list can visit. Can I see your ID?
- Harry Greenwood: [showing her the New York driver's license] You'll find my name on the list. Alex Graves.
- Macy Vaughn: [hearing the roar of an unknown creature] What the hell?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Whatever you do, don't move.
- Macy Vaughn: What the hell was that thing?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: A Kyon... or Skincrawler. Blind, like ants. They hunt by sensing sound and movement. They normally keep to themselves, far away from humans.
- Mel Vera: She set us up. Again.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Oh, stuff it, Potion Princess. I'd never knowingly wander near Kyons. They're vicious hunters, the velociraptors of the magical world.
- Macy Vaughn: [hearing it roar] Why does it keep doing that?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's hungry, I think.
- Macy Vaughn: And what does our friend eat?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Whatever's slowest.
- [indicating Mel]
- Macy Vaughn: Probably her.
- Maggie Vera: You're still here.
- Jordan Chase: Yeah. I... I still have a few days left on the lease. I told Zach he'll get my keys back at the end of the week.
- Maggie Vera: Okay, what if you didn't have to? Leave. Twice a year, SafeSpace Seattle funds a Good Karma project to support surrounding communities, and I've been charged with generating fresh ideas. So I thought, why not a wellness program? You know? For people wo can't afford it. I read that boxing is good for physical and mental health, and increases confidence.
- Jordan Chase: You've been reading about boxing?
- Maggie Vera: Yes. I read about a lot of things.
- Maggie Vera: You don't have to feel guilty about getting the job, Maggie. I'm all right.
- Maggie Vera: It's not guilt. Part of my job as an assistant manager is looking out for other visionaries.
- Jordan Chase: Is that so?
- Maggie Vera: Yes. Look, all we would have to do is put together a proposal and pitch it at the managers' meeting. What do you say?
- Jordan Chase: I say I'm in.
- [shaking hands, a chime rings in her head]
- Jordan Chase: I love you.
- Maggie Vera: What... uh, what did you say?
- Jordan Chase: You saved my life.
- [the vision ends]
- Jordan Chase: Everything all right?
- Macy Vaughn: It's all in there?
- Mel Vera: Yes. My little bag here has every potion I've recreated from the Book of Shadows, some of which work... ish. What if she made it all up? The truck, Montana? What if it's a trap?
- Macy Vaughn: A very real possibility, which is why... dimitte ex carcere...
- [the spell containing Abigael is removed]
- Macy Vaughn: ...I'm taking her with me.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Smart girl.
- Macy Vaughn: You bet I am.
- [putting a bracelet on her wrist]
- Macy Vaughn: You come, no powers. And if anything goes sideways, well... that'll be one less demon in the world.
- Mel Vera: I'm going, too.
- Macy Vaughn: Mel...
- Mel Vera: I'm not gonna let you go out there alone, with this double-crossing demon. You need backup.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [sarcastic] Oh, I feel so much safer.
- Macy Vaughn: All right. Colstrip, Montana, here we come.
- Mel Vera: Pull out the marble, Macy. Let's go home.
- Macy Vaughn: No. If the assassin took her here, then there's a Kyon enclave nearby, which means we're close to something.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Maybe he's using them as some sort of army of minions. Take off my cuff and I'll help you kill the Kyon.
- Mel Vera: Or feed us to it. Macy, we need to go home.
- Macy Vaughn: We'll go back and regroup. Come back with Harry and a plan.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Okay, let me put this another way.
- Mel Vera: [she runs off in the direction of the Kyon's noises] Oh, no, you don't.
- Jordan Chase: So, do you have everything you need?
- Maggie Vera: Quarterly projections...
- Jordan Chase: Yeah.
- Maggie Vera: ...personal statement, resume. That should do it.
- Jordan Chase: Great.
- [she pats his shoulder, again trying to see if her powers work]
- Jordan Chase: Uh, Maggie, you seem... you seem weird. And you keep tapping me, which... which is also weird.
- Maggie Vera: Yeah, sorry. I'm... I'm j... I'm trying to figure some things out. You know, know thyself. It's... it's a long story.
- Mel Vera: This will point the way to the Kyon queen.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [waiting for something to happen] Well, this is exciting.
- Mel Vera: I followed the directions exactly as I remember from the Book of Shadows.
- Macy Vaughn: Maybe you're missing an ingredient.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Or maybe you just suck at this.
- Mel Vera: Or maybe the antler doesn't have enough life force. The Kyon is dead, and the potion requires a living agent.
- Macy Vaughn: A host.
- Maggie Vera: Meaning?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Someone has to drink it.
- Mel Vera: Suck this, Abby.
- Macy Vaughn: Mel.
- Maggie Vera: Mel!
- Macy Vaughn: Don't!
- Maggie Vera: No!
- Maggie Vera: [as Mel drinks it, she begins to feel its effects] Oh, my god, what's happening to her?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's working. She's connected to them.
- Nurse: Still here?
- Harry Greenwood: I see from the records she's been moved around a lot.
- Nurse: There are a group of women who would come by and check in on her and her sister, pay the bills, but... haven't seen them in a while.
- Harry Greenwood: Sister? What sister?
- Nurse: [cut to her leading him to a restricted area] Helen's quiet, but lovely. It's her sister that's the problem. But we're under strict orders to never separate them.
- Harry Greenwood: Can I ask you something? Are you a witch?
- [a fly lands on Helen's cheek, which he brushes off]
- Harry Greenwood: I'm sorry. It's just... well, I was hoping you could help me understand something, that perhaps the reason your information was left where I could find it was that the Elders...
- [she suddenly starts to attack him]
- Harry Greenwood: [restraining her] I'm not one of them.
- [as he lets her go and she calms down, she heals the cut on his cheek]
- Harry Greenwood: Oh, my god. You're a Whitelighter.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [as the Kyon queen advances on them] Guys, cuff. Cuff. It'd be ideal if I don't have this on.
- Maggie Vera: Macy, no.
- Macy Vaughn: [taking the cuff off] I'll distract her.
- [moving a few feet away]
- Macy Vaughn: Here! Over here!
- [as Abigael forms a fireball and prepares to throw it, Mel knocks her arm away and kneels down]
- Maggie Vera: What's she doing?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Communicating.
- Maggie Vera: Wait, she's Parker's half-sister? Does she know where he is?
- Mel Vera: I don't know what she knows, and frankly, I don't care. We need Harry's compass for the potion.
- Maggie Vera: He was my boyfriend, Mel. I-I'm entitled to ask her questions.
- Mel Vera: Stay away from her, Mags. She is the devil. I would have vanquished her seven times over by now if I had any powers.
- Maggie Vera: Mel...
- Mel Vera: Don't "Mel" me. I had to put up with her treating me like I'm a piece of crap all day.
- Maggie Vera: Well, ignore her, then.
- Mel Vera: I can't.
- Maggie Vera: Why?
- Mel Vera: Because I think she's right. I went from being one of the most powerful witches in the world to this... Fanny Pack Franny.
- [finding the compass]
- Mel Vera: Here it is. All right. Let's do this.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: So, your demon powers, where did they come from, exactly?
- Macy Vaughn: Transfusion. I was stillborn. My parents used a necromancer to infuse me.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: With demon blood.
- Macy Vaughn: Mm.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: You and I have a lot in common. More in common, perhaps, than you and your sisters.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Our dear friend, the assassin, he was here.
- Mel Vera: [seeing a dead animal] What the hell is that?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Wait. Don't go any closer.
- [as she picks up a rock and tosses it over, a magical net swoops upward]
- Macy Vaughn: That was bait for his trap.
- Mel Vera: [picking something up] And he clearly caught something.
- Macy Vaughn: Is that a piece of antler?
- Mel Vera: Some Kyon's not happy right now.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Not just any Kyon. See these markings? He took their queen.
- [hearing the Kyon roaring]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: And now, I think it's time to go.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, well done. Whatever our friend is up to, at least he doesn't have creatures to do it with. Thanks to you, Mel. I underestimated you.
- Mel Vera: Yes, you did. Alligatum est.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [getting magic dust blown in her face] You've got to be kidding me.
- Maggie Vera: [leaving with Mel as Abigael pounds on the restraining barrier] She doesn't kid.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [in a roomful of suspended-animation tubes] That's the banshee empress. She went missing a few weeks back. Top of the banshee food chain. You don't want to mess around with that one.
- Macy Vaughn: Look.
- [at a set of computer screens]
- Macy Vaughn: There's a basilisk, a griffin, a Kyon.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's like a zoo.
- Macy Vaughn: The empress of the banshees, the queen of the Kyons. The assassin is a hunter, collecting the most powerful of magical creatures.
- Maggie Vera: Like the Charmed Ones.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: And me.
- Macy Vaughn: And he's holding them alive. The mist being pumped into those tubes. He's keeping them sedated.
- Maggie Vera: We have to find Mel and get out of here.
- Maggie Vera: I can see the future. It's not my old powers coming back, it's a new one, foresight.
- [seeing Abigael]
- Maggie Vera: Wait, she's in the house now?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Shouldn't you have really seen that coming?
- Macy Vaughn: If you're really part of the Caine dynasty, what's with the accent?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I grew up with my mother in Sussex. I despised my father. In my family, if you weren't a boy, you were nothing.
- Macy Vaughn: I'm sorry.
- Mel Vera: Sorry? Do you know how many innocent witches he and she killed?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Probably no more than the innocent demons your people killed. All hunters are heroes until the lioness tells her side of the story.
- Jordan Chase: I love you.
- Maggie Vera: What did you say?
- Jordan Chase: You saved my life. I was looking all over for those damn keys. Where were they?
- Lola: In the bathroom, wrapped in a towel with your AirPods.
- Jordan Chase: [kissing] Mmm.
- Maggie Vera: [realizing her powers do work] Foresight.
- Lola: What?
- Jordan Chase: Oh, uh, sorry. Maggie, this is Lola, my, uh...
- Lola: Law school classmate.
- Harry Greenwood: You don't have a sister, do you? That thing in there, she's part of you. That was the great cost.
- Helen McGantry: I... am half.
- Harry Greenwood: The Elders did this to you?
- Helen McGantry: And you.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [being led into the manor] I save you from the maw of a Kyon, and my reward is the cuff and the blindfold?
- Macy Vaughn: [taking the blindfold off] Well, we couldn't let you see how we got here.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Ooh. 19th-century Victorian chandelier. And that side table's sublime. Not my aesthetic, but could be worse.
- Mel Vera: [sarcastic] And I was so worried you wouldn't approve.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's the Kyon queen. Nobody move. Or make a sound.
- [Maggie's cell phone rings]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Seriously?
- Swan: [at SafeSpace] You and Maggie ready? Can't wait to hear the pitch.
- Jordan Chase: Yep. She'll be here any minute.
- Maggie Vera: [dialing his phone again, he gets her outgoing voicemail message] Hey, it's Maggie.
- Jordan Chase: Maggie, it's Jordan. I can't reach you, and you're 20 minutes late. Are you all right? Did something come up?
- Macy Vaughn: You said Kyons communicate through pheromones, like ants?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Yes, that's right.
- Macy Vaughn: We have the queen's antler, maybe we could commandeer the pheromones, use them in a tracking potion.
- Mel Vera: To help us find the queen.
- Macy Vaughn: Find the queen, find the assassin.
- Mel Vera: [opening her fanny pack] Okay, let's see what I've got.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Another potion, really?
- Mel Vera: Oh, shove it, demon spawn.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [watching Macy grate the Kyon queen horn] Is this how you did it? Killed my father? Some dark, mysterious potion in the family cooker?
- Macy Vaughn: Listen, Abigael...
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: No, no, I'm glad you killed them, my father and Hunter, they got what they deserved.
- Macy Vaughn: Is that how you demons roll? You just stab each other in the back with no remorse, no sense of loss?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Alistair had a relationship with a witch, my mother, and then he called me an abomination and cast me out. Hunter, Parker, I was smarter than both of them combined. The patriarchy is still alive and well in the demon world.
- Macy Vaughn: So, tear it down.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I'm working on it.
- Macy Vaughn: Mel, can you hear us? Mel.
- Maggie Vera: [to Abigael] You did this to her. Pushed her to it.
- Macy Vaughn: [Mel fumbles for the tracking ball] Hang on. I think she's trying to track the Kyon queen.
- Maggie Vera: [a portal opens] Mel! Mel, wait!
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Find the Kyon queen, find the assassin.
- Macy Vaughn: [following them] Let's go.
- Harry Greenwood: You're a Whitelighter. Helen, Whitelighters were created "at great cost." Do you know what that means?
- Nurse: [coming in] Mr. Graves. Time's up.
- Harry Greenwood: [reluctantly turning to leave] This key... I believe it belongs to Helen. Does she have a lockbox with personal items?
- [cut to him opening it and looking through the contents]
- Harry Greenwood: [finding a documnet] 1693. Salem.
- [taking the envelope marked "Alpha" out of his pocket]
- Harry Greenwood: The Alpha. The first.
- Maggie Vera: Hey. Jordan, can we... can we talk?
- Jordan Chase: She appears. Like magic.
- Maggie Vera: I'm... so, so sorry. I... an emergency popped up.
- Jordan Chase: You seem to have a lot of those, don't you?
- Maggie Vera: There's no excuse. I'll reschedule the meeting.
- Jordan Chase: No. No need to. I pitched anyway, and... they loved it.
- Maggie Vera: They did? That's amazing. Can I... buy you a drink or something? To apologize.
- Jordan Chase: Maybe some other time. I'm gonna head out, but, um... thank you. The program was your idea, after all, so...
- Mel Vera: Harry?
- [seeing him in the parlor]
- Maggie Vera: I'm so glad you're okay. Where's Macy?
- Harry Greenwood: What do you mean? She's not with you?
- Maggie Vera: What? We... we saw her leave with you. Unless...
- Mel Vera: Oh, my god.
- Harry Greenwood: It wasn't me. It was him. My Darklighter.
- Maggie Vera: That was crazy.
- Mel Vera: What?
- Maggie Vera: The tracking potion? Drinking it without knowing what it would do. You could have gotten yourself killed, Mel.
- Mel Vera: I'm sorry. It was... stupid.
- Maggie Vera: But it was also incredibly brave.
