When Frankie makes spaghetti carbonara in the middle of the night, she and Sam eat it and have a conversation about their dating lives. Then, suddenly, Sam says, "When we're married, I want you to make this for me once a week." Frankie replies, "Oh, I'm never getting married again. I don't believe in marriage." Sam answers, "Neither do I." This is not an extension of their prior conversation about their own personal lives; rather, Sam and Frankie are quoting lines from the 1986 Meryl Streep / Jack Nicholson movie Heartburn, in which Streep's character also makes a late-night carbonara to share. Sam (Pamela Adlon) is even doing a slight Nicholson impression as she and Frankie recite these lines.
